Featured Artist Of The Week!
excellent track you two!
Hi, Cool and scary in a good way. Gothic and powerful. Like the ebb and flow of the guitar work. Nice work. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
I like it, but you are an acquired taste and I am not sure I've listened enough to fully 'get it'. Musically I like it. Lyrically very good and very interesting, I think. The vox sound OK to me, but I would love to hear it with another vocalist (sounds like maybe I agree with your own assessment of yourself as a vocalist).
I can see you doing some film score work with this kind of music. It would fit in nicely with The Highlander. Some good ideas which dont plod along like most. Have to disagree with your guitar playing, better than mine! WOW a #1
Can I just pass on something from both Bob and myself... THANK YOU!
Wow! The changes you have made to the vocals have made this tune so better. Congratulations on No 1 It's well deserved and I'm looking forward to the next Installment
Congrats on #1 bud!!
Well done on number 1 - well desreved - look forward to the other parts. Rated.
Whoo hoo! Congratulations Jay & Bob on that #1 chart topper! Way to go you two! :)
Yup, it's still great. Congrats on first place!
Yay - No 1! Well deserved - good on ya :-)
top marks my son get in there :D wel done bro top spot :D awesome
So many sounds....it's a journey I liked and must have taken ages to produce. Gets a nom
Wow Awsome!!! Such a brilliant change...something different :) nice nice nice
Powerhouse of an epic! Also loved those Dr Who episodes, nice and dark and powerful. I can see how this track fits in with your thinking of it. Love the build up to the song, and your vox work nicely with the track. And really love the guitar work throughout the track. ONAGER
Nope I've got to disagree!!!!!! If you had been in Yate's everyone would have stopped drinking and they would have listened! Drunk from the vibes NOT THE DRUGS! Are you going to do Captain Scarlet now -I reckon with a vox like that Captain Black will be joining the queue for latenight chat show host! Yup! Jon
Cool totally agree with the theme man - big Dr Who and Torchwood, and Sci-fi in general. Love the idea dude and the evil tones! You got to do me some voice overs for my maybe machine tracks? This proper rocks as a beast before time should. Love all the effects and sounds going on here, specially that cool guitar two thirds through. THis is a best of a song for a beast of a beast! recommended, rated and nominated!
It's nice hear the vox back again! I must say mate, you're mad a bag of big mad things but this is excellent. Gothic sci-fi crossover! The vox are a bit low but it kinda makes you listen harder and the music wraps around you then steals your wallet & shags your mum. I like the rhythms through this, particularly on the vocal part. There's so many styles going on in here it's a compelling listen that demands attention to the last note. This is a quality piece lads and you deserve every feckin nomination you've got. Including the one I'm putting on! lol Nice work all round!
im loving the bob parts. the latter third of the track is really cool for me.. i abs loved this before, still love it now, and cant honestly remember it enough to for sure hear the different parts. but it does sound really full. and i dont remember the latter third being this sweet. awesome dude, its a shame i didnt catch this earlier in the week
Had to spin that solo twice man... truthfully that was the highlight of the song for me... love how you blend all kinds of guitar sounds in there starting with the solo just blistering (is that you playing??) ah man this just keeps getting better... Love the solo interludes reminds me of metallica's orion... just goes from one place to another and you have the nightmare theme to it so it works great... can definitely crank that guitar up a bit and bring more in the mix and run it with the drums sidechaned to a compressor to get a tighter sound... This track has some real potential. Cheers, Ace
At first I hid my worldy possessions, locked my doors, scanned for viruses, wished away the evil spirits that may have been learking after listening...so dark a light bulb wouldn't help. repent. Well, I still did when listening again! lol... Joking aside-I do admire your drive for perfection with your tracks! It shows. This is deep, dark & down-right-wicked! I liked Bob's guitar additions this go and shoot the overall portrait, though painted with dark colours is alive! Nomination is the key word for todays lesson. :)
Nice one really freaky, you look kinda sacry too...lol only kidding. Very creative, but what happened to the spoken vox you were asking for? I thought you were adding some more? Well anyway this gets my rate and a nom.
Thanks for putting up the lyrics...fabulous lyrics at that. I also like the way you deliver them so stop knocking urself man...this is like .....a freakin epic of a song...just fantastic Jay and everything is there in this audio-visual experience...who needs a tv when music can be this descriptive? Top marks and a gigantic NOMINATION from me hugggzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This one is definitely better than previous version (sorry i just didn't manage to write smth about it). Good production, some nice bass and guitar performance i hear, really deserves a rate!
I was going to comment after your last update but after Steve's excellent comments I held off. However, listening now, I can hear how much of the advice you've taken on board and this track is all the stronger for it. Must say I love the sinister atmosphere even though Bob's guitar solo in the middle adds a slightly funky touch to things before the darkness descends again. Percussion is fantastic, I wish I could get my head round drums like that. Hats off to you for the time you've put into this, and your willingness to listen to other people's suggestions.
...., can i say Fuck on the comments....tooolate.(hehehe) Im so glad You revisited this J. I can now say in all honesty im jealous, seriously. I think the vocals still could have been more dominant, but apart from that this is some serious stuff. The sound now envelopes me and confuses mys senses(job well done) and after our recent exchange of emails and discusing how you record things , you now have my complete admiration. As said before this is truely stupendous, and one of the most original thing Ive heard on this site. You now get a serios Nomination from me to complete the set. Steve
woah... I have been busy and havent listened to much new stuff lately... um... I need to get out more cause this is freaking cool as hell.... wow well done guys! scary and reminds me of a soundtrack of a blade movie type of thing.... ripping guitar bob... this is cool straight through!!!! ;-) rate and nom no questions asked! *SNAP*
loved it the first time, but this is some serious production and bob's guitar is sick, cool vocals, loving the darkness, then the synths, nice rolling drums, dirty track, rated, recommended and would nominate if I could.
WOW J! what an update! some seriously mad synths n sht flying around and seems to be a massive wall of sound with elements coming and going every where! lol Have to say you did a job and a half taming all those bad ass mo fo's! lol You can hear the quality on this one is top notch! liking it too when the drums just go for it and the shredding guitar then tames down again with some nicly played guitar, the last mix this guitar seemed outta place but now it fits like a glove! Well already rated and nominated tho i noticed in my comments i didnt say! lol Well cant press the buttons so will this comment do? lol Best of luck with it bud! Marty
first off, i like your discription on the msgboard about steve giving you advice on the vocs. must say your asking the right people, i tent to get good advice from the very same man :D never let me down yet :) and he certanly hasn't here either, i think this track sounds much more polished and fuller everything seems to breathe that little bit better, all tho if im honest i never had any complaints before hand, bob sure made some tasty licks for you as well so got to give the bobski some cred :) i like when people collab and come up trumps. helps that i like the both ya also ;) lookforwards to hearing more in this series and deffo if its going to be of this musical standard. original and very evoking :) top stuff jay & bob :)
Wow this is some piece of music!....Its great from the word go. Fantastic production, such a big, dark, and powerful sound! This is truly epic! Bobs added some masterful licks too, great player! Double bass drum part is excellent, and the change section with the clean, funky guitar is a great change of direction. I chose not to focus on the background of the story when listening to this, cos i wanted to concentrate on it for the music that is. Fantastic arrangement. this mustve taken u ages to arrange, let laone complete it! Awesome Jay! Rated, and a nom, cos its really deserved man! Mark
The production is stellar. Stereo soundscape. Martian marching song. Great choice of beats and synths. It just builds and builds, like a modern day Bolero. Excellent.
Congratulations Jay on this weeks charts! Way to go! :)
All been said below I think, ain't gonna add much more except........ FAB!
Hi This seems a whole world different to tha last time. Nice Intro lots of space. creates a very dramatic atmosphere. good cello. I absolutley love the segment with the whispering. The Instrumental part I was gonna say is a bit long winded but I'm listening again and It doesn't seem so bad now. Definetely a massive track especially considering your low fi approach. Rated!
Any one that knows me , know's that musicaly i cant walk a straight line, and i think thats what i love about it is the diversity of the track. The twists and turns are spectacular to say the least. The arrangement of the music is quite stupendous. And the back line Rythme is powerful and driven, Lovely. So lets get down to the whys and wherefors of the track. I must admit the amount of reverb on certain aspects of the track spoit it for me. Instead of being there in all its glory, i found myself struggeling to hear certain aspects, now if i know anything about musicians , thats usualy a sign that they are insecure about what they have done, (usualy vocals) i know this because im one of the worst offeders :). But it realy does detract from the track. The second thing is a piece like this need to fill the room around you, and as much as reverb can falsly give that impression , clever panning and EQing works so much better. The sound should attack you from all angless and not just head on. So, all in all this is completely my kind of track, spectaclar isnt too strong a word, but I'd love to get me hands on it and remix it from a nuetral point of view. The other thing i would have liked to have heard is a doubling up on the vocals, (yet again thats my thing0 With seithing wicked vocals sreeming out certain parts from behind the main vocal. But this is turning into a review instead of a comment, so I'll shut up now. Love your work Jay, and Bobs guitar work is killer. Ill definatley be rating this, but Ill hold back a little Nom , just in case you decide to have another tweek. Steve
I think it's me that's humbled. This is an honest thank you from me (and I'm guessing from Bob too). THANK YOU!
i can honestly say this has humbled me. just when i think im starting to gain ground musically, someone like you comes along and creates something that i wouldnt even know where to begin making myself. you have a proper dark feel to your tracks. turns out i already rated, honestly i dont remember the original posted version enough to comment on changes, but we live in the now anyways, and the now tells me this is freaking freaky. a blast. what are those synths that are so dark? the beat is perfect too. the vox. wowsers. rated/nomd
very vreepy vox man..I near .... mesel...yes I like the originality your showing with your music and although its quite abstract work, This tune works and i like the instruments your using ..this gets the rascilly rate treatment
The string line reminds me of the title music for Jesus of Nazareth(the one with Robert Powell)! Then the horror-inducing vocals came in and destroyed any thoughts I had of becoming born-again! Guitar work is great...you have created a whole genre-encompassing experience here. It's long and I think you have to be in the mood for it, but I was so I listened!
Brilliant - I love it - complex and all the elements are mixed well - love that funky guitar riff that comes out of nowhere..and yes I am a sci-fi junkie..so this totally works for me. rated..cheers
Nice piece for film background. Wacky arrangement of instruments. Dark, not out of place for me with Zappa stuff. King Crimson too.. Rob (Shaarilla)
man this kept me entertained from start to finish, its more like a dark musical...u can tell loads of work's gone into this man...awsome elements Rated !! Jase
Back for another listen with my shed hat on. Great stuff. Your very talented my friend. Top Production.. cheers Rogue!
Ooops thought id commented on this track but ah well im here now lol And have to say thats a sweet intro! liking the wyind up (I know its spelled wind up but just incase you think of something else lol) then into the violin\strings. Some nice vocals Jay! like this sound its like gothic metal type sound and have to say its rather damn well done! Its like an epic! The guitar seems alittle outta place tho when it comes in, It is nice tho i think that maybe a different sample or melody would have helpped! Still a massive epic so to say and i think this is fuking class! Like the gothic feel to it so for that rate and nom! best of luck with it bud! marty
aye this has changed some since i last played, some really good performances take a bow mr jay & bob :) really different track takes lots of turns and the vocal style really does suit this dark and gothic piece :D some quality shred in there guys top work
Good tension buildup you have here! And it's truly a concept piece, a rock operone! Very interesting piece, it's almost like rock theater, I can see quite the live show going with this, must get quite steamy in your studio :P Excellent work, grabbed my attention from start to finish. Rating!
Have listened to this a few times now. I really enjoy the way it builds up slowly but surely. Mr B certainly laid it down hard with his lines and provided the perfect edge to a dark tune. All in all an epic tune worthy of playing with a montage of Dr.Who and Torchwood moments......damn fine collab. Have a rate and a nomm for good measure!
Very Intelligent piece of music - reminds me of War of the Worlds - in the way it has been composed. I can't wait to hear what the vocals sound like..... ;-P Rated and nom'd !! Peace x
Excellent job Jay !!!!I love it !!!!
Holy sh#t dude, this is the type of stuff I love. Very dark, I love the sounds and atmosphere. Gets my vote and a rating - if you ever want to collaborate, just laet me know and I'll be ready to add some guitar work.
Very dark and mysterious. Would be great for a thriller. You got me all freaked out now, lol. Interesting and thought provoking! Rated!
Darker than Dark, mate and the guitar is just bubbling on the surface until it kicks in proper, great mix you've done thus far, Really like the percussion also, awesome track/production.
I care! Your dark music always is grounding to listen to. It is a very evoking piece, I must say one of your better creative conjurations. The guitar fits extremely well into it,(there is this part where it actually sounds like a demon laughing). If you have some chanting choir like vox to add in the distant background for effect it would definitely make the hair on your neck stand up. Good dark vision you have here. PS I really appreciate you always taking the time to give me a note or two on my tracks, it's nice to know someone is listening. : )
My contacts at MI6 are really worried by this piece of code breaking. This must mean you are on to something really hot here!. I was thinking that all the electronic texture would drop suddenly to be replaced by cold piano and fiddle along the lines of yates wine bar in the market square, Nottingham on a Friday Night - If you had been there you would have put it in! More please - thanks for your encouragement and help by the way! - Jon.
Thats really nice.. work in progress? hhhm i agree it sounds dern near done for me.. lots of slight changes and all in there. gott alisten to this through a few times before really saying anything.. but damn.. I kinda agree (i think ) that it needs a live bass guitar in there though.. But im not sure that may be the bass player in me... let us know when its done...and im getting a NIN thing going on in there.. not the popular stuff.. but the good stuff..(the stuff that doesnt get to that damned radio..)
Bass guitar man... for me it's still lacking that rythm :-)I can hear a sort of electronic growl going on, but for me it's missing that. anyway just my opinion, apart from that I am enjoying it's progress, like the guitars... very effective piece...
Ahhh, this is what the chat was all about! ;) Please let me know once it's reached completion so I can listen again and leave the noms at the door! Wicked! Deliberately wicked! I like! :)
Straight off, the production is MUCH better than the earlier lo-fi stuff. The textural atonal guitar is excellent and well placed in the mix. The beat is mental and like Aphex Twin on valium, possibly some heroin and ketamine as well. Asleep. Or something. It's got some nice movement to it and sounds cracking so far lads. Much as I don't see/hear the whole Dr Who thing, it's a good slab of experimental stoner jazz soundtracking ambient porno beat metal explosion. Quality. If you ever need some pre-verbal vocalsing, gies a shout.
WIP?? this is done - muscially for me! Fantastic sounds - really top notch production! I could sing some ....ed up dirty melodies on ths big time! Let me know when i can come back and nominate - this is shapping up to be class! Epic
This is shaping up big time dude. I love Dr.Who and Torchwood. Atmospheric and a little chilling with guitars making it sound dangerous as hell. Your drums kick ass too mate! Kewl as. Keep going guys!
It's great and emotional and powerful and threatening and rated. James
coming along nice jay & bob gets better every time i play still dig the kick drum speed :) deffo one to keep an eye on as it changes :) keep me updated :D
Great sound s here. Its shaping up nicely. The drums are solid(love em) the bass line is tight and hold the whole thing together nicely. Loving Bobs guitar work on this, it has a david Bowie (lodgeralbum ) vibe to it which is dark and twisted. As a metal head i wouyld have brought in another guitar Riff on tripplets just to break the patern and give a angry menacing feel, but I love it. Great stuff Jay. Steve. Let me know when its done, and Ill be back to give it some love in the form of R's and N's
so far i cant fault anything. it will never be on radio, but that aint your goal. the drum elements are my favorite element. sell this to marlyn manson and im sure hell give you a nice pay check for it. thats the style of lyics/vocals i hear to this. rated dude, i think you got it right already except it needs some dark slow grundgey anti religious sentiment in vocals
Weird introduction. It would make a good piece for a movie. The drums sound like something out of . . . not sure but interesting. Interesting arrangement of instruments. I don't think it has "radio" potential unless you get some lyrics that can get people going off on some social injustice. The song is dark and scary . . . but so is society. Very original music. You're not going to be accused of sounding like someone on this piece (a good thing). You said you were putting guitars in there. Careful not to change the mood. It is very enticing. The mood of the song pulls in the listener.
Richly atmospheric and enticing. All the crazy guitar bends work well, as does the drumming, coming together to make a slightly dark and surreal but delicious soundscape.
Very good so far. Great guitar work well put together with an eastern feel to it and quite short for you lol. I would say the drums although very well done remind me of the drums in an eighties action tv series like Night Rider or something not all the way but some of the fills and the reverb maybe. Saying that this would make an excellent theme tune. I'll rate it when you've finished (maybe!) lol
beautifully dark and industrial in sound !!
nice dark vibe with lots of twists and awesome percs, will definitely come check out the update, top work.
Loved it. Start accepting the ratings and nominations man . This is a good bit of work. Cheers Rogue
Hi J! This is the one I heard earlier! Thought I wouldn't remember...but how could I forget! Dark and rather mysterious! Any additions let me know and I'll take another listen. Pre-warn me and I'll lock my doors first! lol.. Rated :)
Drums sound ace J...mix sounds killer !!!like what ya did....new guitar track sent...
Really a well put together piece. The drums are really good, makes for a dark almost disturbing track. I think you hit the mark. I almost hear some vocal here, not sining words but maybe a high voice coming in doing a melody over the piece.
aye this sounds like its gonna be a winner. gr8 percusion love the fast kicks sweet touch. the organ is haunting, errie stuff m8. nothing to complain about from me as a wip it stands up on its own, hope its going to be longer ? thumbs up cos its good enough 2 go, but look forwards to hearing the complete version
this pretty tight, man. Very dark and I'm diggin' the drums a lot - I love that live sound, as you can probably tell by my own stuff. What do you use to create yours, an actual mic'd set? Anyhow, I feel the piece stands alone pretty well too but some guitar would top if off nicely. Great work!
Forgot to add - mightily impressed by your 'cellar'!!!
I like this a lot. Yes, I can hear how some soaring guitar licks would enhance this track but then again, it's one of those that stands well on its own. My favourite segment is when the 'siren' sound breaks into the organ. Superb.
Cool dark atmosphere you got going in the track. Like the bass a lot, strings are good too, maybe a little overpowering tho. If you're thinking about getting vocals added, which think you are, I'm interested to hear them at the start coz it plods. Later on when it kicks in sounds much better for vocal addition. Good work in progress dude!
Well now, what a dark and effective intro with the cello, drums sound good, and I like the rythm... (could do with a proper bass guitar there though I reckon... I'm presuming there isnt one ? Like the way it builds, and I reckon with some guitar added it would be a really good piece! I like it... and your right that was the best episode from last series.
45 bpm huh ? It's a wonder the whole thing doesn't fall over, but the cello line holds it up beautifully. The strings lines are excellent too. Love the haunted atmosphere and the drum work is particularly good. I look forward to hearing what's added to this. Sorry, I haven't anything to criticise here :-)
that drum beat is very reminiscent of jaymzleeshaw's funeral march...in fact for a long time during the playing of this, I was reminded of that beautiful track...love when the rock kicks in and it became almost gothic. Really love it as a work in progress and am sure Bob's imput will only enhance it even more.
1st listen.... Your a madman !!!Got me jumpin over here !!! I'm gonna give it my best J Sick !!!...devinely twisted !!! Bob
I am Jason Newman and I am ConKuss.
Hopefully, you may find some half decent music here that entertains, depresses and angers your weary souls.
What more can I say? Enjoy, please. Loud.
Conkuss, as he will readily admit, an artist you either 'get' or not. I think that my exposure to artists like The Delivery System helped me to better get into what Conkuss was about. On a site where instant music artists were legion and real musicians too few to mention, they stood out as something different. Something awfully, awfully different. Conkuss has always had mor
Absolutly fanspastic!
I think it's time for some 'crappy dark electronica from Oldham' don't you? Hey, don't get started with me, that's how Conkuss describes his music and if you were around for my review of Childish Lessons (October 2006) you'll know that this isn't yer regular MP3 cutie. Conkuss is, in fact, a wicked, wicked man who will corrupt your eyeballs and eardrums as soon as look at you so
Distortionata!! The comfortless zone of intense fractured edginess. This is a sound that brutally forces its way into your senses. If you are looking for musical safety, well .... you took a wrong turn somewhere.Having had the chance to not only listen to Jay I've also met him and there-in lies a conundrum. The mild exterior never reflects, well publicly, the inner darkness that defines this a
To look at me now, you wouldn't know that I used to be what is referred to as normal: I had friends, I had a life, damn I even had sex (once or twice). My story, however, has a very familiar ring to it. See, I'm one of those people who - as your Mum will patiently explain to you should you give her the slightest excuse - 'fell in with the wrong crowd'. They were a rum lot, to be
Another artist I don't know much about, but after a hiatus he seems to have returned, with a 16 minute epic of metal proportions! At first when he said it was 16 mins long, I thought gulp, this could be a long one, but does it feal long? I'll let you know at the end. The track starts off very intrigueingly with some nice sounds going on and some nice synths, a la Blutengel, and you th
The intro to 'Remembrance (Loved Ones Lost) has me imagining epic drama - kung foo fighting on a mountain top!
This should be true of all good 'dark' electronica/techno, and it is certainly shown here. (i don't mean all electronica should be about kung foo figting, but it should make you imagine something, evoke some feeling).
Wow, this one got a really dark vibe, like those dark atmospheres that take the listener on a journey to the darkest parts of the atsral spheres. Dark lyrics with some almost worshipping of evil-undertone!? The vocals fit in really well only got a bit more volume so the lyrics are better heard. But very much like the whisperring part following up to the priestlike way the first part is created.
Before I even got round to listening to Rememberance (Loved One's Lost) by ConKuss I suspected a strange beast lay in store from me. I mean, this is a guy from a thrash metal background attempting a piece of theatrical electronica based on a poem by Lord Byron! I think that merits the Strange Beast tag don't you? I've encountered a few strange beasts in my time and let me tell yo
ConKuss' Remembrance (Loved Ones Lost) takes a Lord Byron poem I am unfamiliar with and places haunting melodies over it. The intro immediately grabbed me and drew me in. Although be it a bit long, the intro does build up an intensity awaiting a release. What sounds like a synthesized xylophone introduces what I would consider an Eastern Indian, Pink Floy
