I knew a man 2014 remix
G'day. Great track and the production is first class & tasteful. Every instrument sitting nicely in their place. Just as a coincidence, I also use Cubase with a Yamaha keyboard and a Rode mic.
well, if it was in need of a re-mix, most of us would not know :)..glad you took the task upon yourself...it means the tune is important enough to you to take it on. For academic purposes, can you still the original somewhere so those who are interested, can try to compare the before and after? Just a thought. Got all the marks of your arrangements...piano chords...a little scat...ba-da-da.. :) Liked that ...the trumpets/brass entrance was sweet...nice guitar lead...bass thumps profoundly and the cymbals on the left don't wash other parts out...sounds like a bit of the bell of the cymbals trying to poke through...cool...liked all of that...enjoyed the ride from top to bottom :)
Great track Andy. lyrics compulsive as usual .... Phil
I've heard this a few times in the past, great remaster Oaky but actually forget that, the song is the winner - some great moments to savor! Actually the remastering is also great. Ah ok you win.. Great work, great song - have a slug of JD (Honey?). G
Andy I don't think I heard the original so this is new to me and as for your references I see those but I also felt some Traffic in there ala Low Spark of High Heel Boys. Very fine work as per your usual. Thumbs Dude!
I really enjoyed this, its got a McCartney feel from the Red Rose Speedway/ Band On the Run era, when he was at his solo best in my opinion. Anyway, great track and thanks for the DL. Thumbs, Gibbo
Vaguely recall this one from 2007, I think I remember the title more than this music. And unusual amount of brass in there, don't hear much of that out of you. Silky smooth, I'd comment on the touch-up but I'd have to hear the original again, lol....sounds great, had several listens this morning, always a pleasure.
Much more epic version actually from my ears Andy. One of your best. Of course that's like saying rib eye over filet so what are you going to choose? Both I guess. Lot's o bass on this version but perhaps the original had the same. Either way, it's a classic Oakwood original with all of the chords, sounds, movements and brilliance that only you have. Thanks for the remix.
2014 remix
Just wondering what you are using to record the lead guitar? It's a very smooth tone.
Hi Andy, I've been walking through the Mp3 Unsigned Hall Of Fame and it's great to see that this is currently the most popular Blues track of all time on this site with 54 votes. Glad to see that this reached the top spot back in 2007. Anyway I've voted and this popular track is now on 55. All the best. PJ
I noticed the floyd thing as soon as the vocals came in. The production sounds good. I like the synth sound you used. The blues piano riff is nice too. Good job.
i agree with the floyd feel, your vocals remind me of syd barret, also my "spare room studio" is where i record & produce - i'm impressed with what you've accomplished
In listening to this I feel like drinking a beer! Its a great track and sets the mood perfectly.
Hi, Sonya S. here, Listened to your track. Well produced track. Love the brassy stuff. Though not my genre, good for style it is. Like your vocals. There is a pink floyd touch to this track. Keep up good work.
nice tune .. you singing this like shaun ryder vibe no offence ... nice lyrics also hear alil bit of oasis masterplan in it.. sweet drums percs, rated!
really enjoying this track - cool as fk lyrics - great arrangement - deffo hit all the sweet spots:) well done, man:) melinda
Firstly I agree with you about Pretzel Logic, luv that.. and I think i might dig that one out and give it a spin on my radio show.. but back to your song here, well this is indeed.. (as I see from comments below others have noted), a superb offering from you. It's got a lot of cool elements going on here, some real nice touches with the brass and keyboards that weave really well with the excellent melodic structure of the song..Overall I think this an excellent piece of work mate, and I think they just keep getting better..big thumbs up for this!!!!!
Awesome track James. Very cool vibe and nice build. Production is top notch. Love the way you slip in and out of the box. Two thumbs up on this one!!
Yo Burton/Blurton(?) boy! I really like this - the chord movements and melody are brilliant with the root note bass underpinning it. Ace lyrics and great instrumentation. One of the most clever songs i've ever heard on here. Ace! Nom and Rate. G
Superb song..... Sounds like Lennon and Gilmore on a collab...i was totally floored by the production...to be frank i was expecting the usual A-D-E the moment i heard blues....but have the guitar on my lap now to work out the chords :P
piano sounds excellent. the badabada baba part is catchy. very full production. the drums seem a bit too much in the background, but maybe this is on purpose.good god, how many tracks did you use? so much going on in the arrangement. very orchestral track. like it.
Nice track James, your usual top notch production, it's a very full production, with the piano being the stand out part for me from the instruments, very catchy vocal line that just seems to keep building, very good track man, ending was a little abrupt though :)
I know I've heard this before, but not sure why I didn't comment on it earlier. The song has a familiar sound to it, as though it was a classic hit. The production is fab, and a wide variety of instruments give it a rich texture. The vocals have just the right combination of smooth and rough tone. Sublime work for a quick turnaround. Rated.
Excellent track James, so much going on and it all fits. The Pink Floyd comments stem from your strong vocal style, I really enjoyed listening to it, top stuff! Mat.
James ;-) Very Floydian but no slip ha ha.. nice track mate ! rated. and i'll be in next life before you get time ....keep it up. Rob
V2 up. Remastered experiment
Great voice. That piano has a kind of lingering tone to it. All the drums sound real nice. And when the guitar and horn come in, it sounds pretty good. The builds come in at just the right moments. Okay... now a break. *listens* Then a guitar. I don't know if I've heard blues like this but it seems real dreamy to me. I don't know what it is about that horn but it puts the thought in my head that if Pink Floyd were to make a blues song, it may sound a bit like this. And another break with a guitar in the background with that piano fading away into the sunset. Well... My sum of the song is that it sounded maybe a little too dreamy for my liking. Don't get me wrong! It's a great song. When the guitar and the horn came in it was a little hard to understand the voice but not a problem. Could have bean just my end. Other then that it was a great arrangement. I did get past the dreamyness and did find it to be a song worth listening too. Awesome work here. I'll give a rate for hard work. Have a great day too! :D
Ooh Yeah I really Like this, Nice job Enjoyed very much! Vin
Very nicely performed and produced. I think the horns are a nice touch. The guit break reminds me of Procol Harem. Have a well earned, tasty rate.
It wasn't quite what I expected for a blues tune as I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to it. But, hey that's me! As for sound and production, top rate along with the vocals.
Hey Andy, I enjoyed the listen, great performances all round, nice mix too. What more can I say, well done. Scott
Cool tune.Cant go wrong woth a blues tune.Production is awsome.I see you use wavelab.I have that but have never took the time to learn how to run it.Looks pretty complicated to me.Sounds like you got it mastered.Nice job!
I have no idea about Blues... But this one's a pretty cute song. I'm just unsure whether the singing style you've used here is what would fit for this one. Also, I love your piano work. Really good work.
I thought i had commented on this lol I am really losing it..this is very listenable even though it sounds like it shouldnt be does that make sense? lots going on here youve got a really good imagination and you put that across musically which is a rare talent LOVIN IT Rated the piano reminds me of a song from Wings tryin to work out which one??
Ha hah! That keyboard arrangement is something else. You *really* know your way around the production software, chief. The sound's as clean and tight as er... a metaphor I should quickly abandon. Juvenile humour aside, your take on epic 70's songwriting is a great antidote to those gits who try and reduce the sound down to a load of cliches... there's real drama here. Rate, rate, rate and so on.
Hey James, another nice track. Vocals are really good - agree with the comments below - there is definitly a hint of Roger Waters in there. Nice sound too - love when you break out of the clean guitar to the keyboards, take a rate!
This is awsome James. My only crit is that your vox dissapear in the louder parts. apart from that It's a magnificent piece of writing production and performance. Nice one :-)
Very Floyd-esque vocal - for us, it was a bit Roger Waters. Great chord progression - especially on the 'never going very far' part of the lyrics. More of that please! The only thing we'd add is a slightly ballsier guitar sound. Well done on your chart placing!!
Congrats on your well deserved No1
It's clearly my week for listening to intelligent songs written intelligently cos here's another one. Gets my rate. Graham
Excellent bluesrock...! Cheers Dirk
Hey this reminds me of.... James Oakwood ;-) Yet another well produced classic rock track; I think your arrangements get better with every outing. Perhaps the vox struggles a bit to compete with the brass in the fuller sections, and perhaps could be taken up a tad, but that's a minor quibble. Great track and good luck with it!
Hey Andy. Took my time in gettin back here eh. Life!!! Ur back with yet another amazing track. How do u always manage to come up with more than the average track, and produce musical journeys like this. Great playing here m8.....u should gig this....ud be a storm in a large venue. I like how it grows as u get further into it. Gets a rate for sheer effort u put into ur work. Hell.....ill throw in a nom too.
Nice song James!.....Liking the piano hook, and a good progression too. Im getting a very Floydy vibe from the vocal. More the delivery of it, very Gilmour! Enjoyed this tho. Great production too man. Gets my rate. Mark
i enjoyed this quite a bit. got a rate from me.
Very, VERY cool track. Pleasant vox and cool arrangement. The trumpets are the icing on the cake. Rock On!
That piano does sound familiar...at least the prog! '70's somewhere! Great brass. Vocals and lyrics are great! Great production too! Nice job! R8!
ps great singing and vocals.
the opening is sweet and i love the piano - am not 100% about the key changes after the intro but I guess that is the style, when it all kicks in it sounds great - love the chords, fantastic. ez rate.
Up till 1:14 I wasn't completely gone on it but the "time for another fantasy" sections make the track.........then found myself enjoying the whole song......great musicianship/production/vocal (especially on harder sections).......brass is brilliant.......very good job Andy. Kevin Mooney
Hey James, feeling this song, has that old skool sound, nice vocals. Love that piano in this too. Rock n blues !
got a beatles vibe right away, vocals sound great, paino is quality:)very good stuff,
A syou say Andy it begins bluesy and develops into a more rocky sound. It works for me and I think it is a quality sound. Love the brass. rated Andy :)
Hello mate Checking this one out now. Music is very very clear, has the blues feel but as you say it turns rock as the track moves forward. Looking at the studio pic... love it as your like me, its all bedroom and software and the standards that can be reached are amazing. Vocals are fitting to the music, not a major melody or soundstage but character and a style that works for the song. Nice brass and bass and electric work.. Rated
very tight in all departments...is that a sample piano? ive heard it some where before...either that or the same chord progression...but i deffo heard it before...classy track dude :) thumbs up
cool song, Andy, some nice movements there. Yur songinging (new word I've coined, great eh?!) sounds distinctly sober :) Lovely song.
I like that it has this sinister sound to it and the lyric matches that perfectly...dark and compelling. I thought at first the vox were too low in the mix but now I see why and it works!! excellent track Andy
Very nice sounding track, it's a brave man indeed who says a song is influenced by Steely Dan, and manages to pull it off with some style into the bargain. The builds are very sophisticated (as WaVeS mentioned) Superb stuff, very impressed :) Rated
Hey Andy, this is cool! I can hear the Doors and the Steely Dan influence you mention, interesting blend of styles. Outrageous lyric, a snazzy keyboard hook and some tasty lead licks - well done buddy! Rated, and then some!
This is bloody great m8. Piano is ace, well, everything is. Top tune.
A great piece James, so clean and accomplished, a marriage of thoughtful lyrics and tuneful textures, brilliant stuff.
Another track from you that is dripping with intelligence and excellent songwriting and takes lots of interesting and original turns. I really like how you cross the genres in here. I'd call it sophisticated Rock, food for the tapping along body, the emotions as well and the mind, which is satisfied too (I always felt that way with Steely Dan as well, because it's so cleverly done). So definitely big thumbs up for you!
I love the piano in this! Reminds me more of Dire Straits than The Doors, but that's no bad thing! I felt the "time for another fantasy" vocal was being drowned out by the music a little! Overall, I like this!
Nice James. You've got a style all your own! I like the piano in this a lot BAd LOVe JUNKie
like this James - the trumpets are not overdone and lift the song well. You've got a great voice and I get the Doors undertones you are referring to - nice guitar work.
Very good performance James, deffo can hear the soul kitchen in the intro, but with a sound all your own. Nice vocals my friend, take a rating from me.
Another excellent track. Love the piano motif, very catchy, and the trumpets give it an almost spaghetti western sound at times. Your vocals will always bring Pink Floyd to mind for me. Great stuff. Rated. Craig
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
