War and Prayer V2
the unstoppable James Oakwood congrats kudos props
Emotion and tension with moving lyrics and I like the build ups to the well played guitar breaks, light and shade throughout powerful song. 'Steve C'
Quality work and it expresses it quite well - I Hear you feelings in this Song - Thanks to and for your Son! Unfortunately, there will Never be peace, we all know that, and it sux...
Some really solid production and fantastic lyrics. No throw away lines in there at all.
WOW ANDY!! The guitar, the bass, the lyrics, the whole overall sound and production that drips with passion. This has a Pink Floyd feel to it - it kicks ass in a similar passively/aggressive way. THIS IS AN EPIC TRACK!!!!
The beggining reminiscent of "Floyd" and much througout! Take that as a complement! A good listen!
HEY! THIS IS NOT TRANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i love it!
Hi, gave it a listen as you suggested. I think my Afghanistan is making the same point - war for profit. Good track, rated. Not a track to 'like' but to deeply appreciate. Thanks for pointing me to it.
real rock here..its still alive man rock is it (DELICIOSA DESDICHA)
Absolutely wonderful! Bless your son and thank you for the heartfelt message. Powerful!
I apologize for not commenting on this earlier. You've always been kind in commenting on my stuff. You own this sound James... or Andrew? Great to see my lack of participation didn't keep you from climbing the charts with this brill piece. Your guitar is spot on. Mix is superb and above all, the composition is excellent. Have my last nom please!
God I love your music James. I listen, I listen, I read and I try to learn. Appreciate your helpful and encouraging comments on my stuff. You really are a pro. This song was all your influences combined, that make your music special and unique. Great track! R DM
awesome music, I like the phaser like sounds, I'm a true fan of music I will be listening more and more to your gift. Wario
I love the Floydish intro....really nice guitar work and bass.Good luck with this one A x
I really like the haunting organ in this one. The dynamics in this one are great also.
Just awesome, what an intro, definately gets a rate from us
It's positively anthemic...I think it's even more powerful now than it was last time I commented...if I haven't nommed it before I am now.
Awesome track! Deep stuff - great lyrics...loved the guitar..haunting organ..very well produced..rated! =D
This is an excellet piece James. I sense a bit of old school Floyd in you. Very nice production on this, the keys are an excellent mix to your guitar playing.
Remaster done today - experiment really
A great message song. When will the meek inherit the Earth. Meaningful lyrics. Outstanding music and instrumentation. Sad that we have such a bleak outlook in life today but it is what it is. Pink Floyd meets Dire Straits sound. Just needs a little more energy with the guitar solos. Otherwise, nice track and good job. Rated for songwriting and the message.
VERY COOL music track to this one. How do I articulate the mood? Mysterious, dark and eerie. Although I sooooo disagree with the philosophy of war, from an artistic perspective I can say that I am very impressed by your lyrics. Rated this one too.
Reminds of the Pink Floyd that I like. Quite the list of some clutch songs here. Awesome work on everything.
hey man.thank you for having a listen to my stuff and leaving such amazing feedback. my sister was in afghanistan a year ago,so i know what you are going thru.the track rocks a lot and your son should be proud that you have taken a situation such as that and created a beautiful track.thank you for the inspiration.:)
Yes another listen, Can't stay away love it!
Definite Floyd in there,Which is great Love your music, A real class act and everything tight.Guitar sounds great!
Cool composition James, can hear a kinda 'War of the Worlds' vibe runnin through..strings an organ are well placed in the mix..powerfull sound!! JD.
Love the distortion on the organ! Feels to me a bit like the snare could be tweaked a bit to have a bit more bite and variation, but it's a very good track. Nice one. TTFN
I totally hear the Pink Floyd reference. Although I've never been a huge fan of the organ, I think you pair it well with the electric guitar in this song and it fits the mood of the message. This is epic my friend.
must be awful having a relative go to war. this reminds me of pink floyd/peter gabriel. love the guitar and the backing synth pad. sadness paired with anger. the snare sounds a bit too damped, could imagine this with a sharp snare. good songwriting and clean production.
bluesy sadness melodic rock, your rough voice suits it perfectly, love the organs, really cool riffs and base.. your message comes through. rating this def
It's really great, I love your sounds and vocals. I haven't understood everything, but that's obviously not your fault but my foreign one :) I honestly can't find anything negative to say, except maybe it will require a bit more variations at each new verse ? But that's really a detail. I remember having listened to one of your songs a few months ago, and, in my opinion, you have made incredible progresses, and it was already really good :) Regards, Oli.
hey dude, I got your comment, I just put up a new one too if you want to check that. I actually do really like this track. I dont listen to that much rock but this is definitely legit. keep it up!
Back for another listen
CoNGRATS..YOU Rock Master!
I would love to hear more songs from you in a similar vain concept album perhaps ??
Sounds like a lot of care and attention went into this one,it is my favourite of yours very well balanced sounding.Good feeling Iam sure to have your most latest track getting really good feedback. Has your son heard this? I live in Belfast and as you know weve had are fair share of war and prayer.....take a rating from me def your best yet, more please :)
you set the scene musically very well I think. Everything sounds fantastic and I love the lead guitar. Excellent song. Martin
youv really achieved a great sound on this, very rich feel. reminds me of pinkfloyd!
A stadium track. What full and rich feel this one has. Great writing with a remarkable depth and quality. You are now positively a fave :)
listening now to this dude... very heartfelt, loving the "floydish" guitar leads as well.. really nice.. and god bless to yours on his way also...
And after all is said and done I hope things work out OK. Cap in hand and back turned smart. They march off to who knows where?. Each one, some mother's son. - jon
this a powerful, heartfelt song... not only through the lyrics... but through the music too. there is something very gilmouresque about the lead guitar but i feel that point has been made to death here :)
Very serious music, deep feelings involved... I like it
Bloody superb - the organ adds so much to it and, I know you'll be sick of this by now, but the Floydsters themselves would be proud of this song.
Very roger waters circa final cut. I would improve the presence of the vocals in the mix, and maybe use a pop-shield for the plosives. of what I've heard from you, this i definitely like the best. good work bro !
Wow -a very powerful piece, I read the lyrics also. There is a Floydianesque sound to it I agree, but their influence has spread far and wild. The melody is strong, I would have liked an apocalyptic climax, but thats the Metal head in me coming out. The organ lends a nice effect, and the contrast with the lead guitar section is very effective. Nice riff. Rated :)
Love the guits in this one, gives such a specific character, maybe i'm just being stupid but u keep imagining an orange sunset feel, love it. vox are workin well, well articulated and clear so oviously the message is important to you, always makes for a smashing track. as has been mentioned i get a pink floyd feel (: second listen always better than the first ehy? (;
Sweet song, love the guitar feel in particular. I get a bit of a pink floyd vibe too which I love. Great voice too, and pretty nicely produced, definitely suits the style. Top stuff :)
nice track m8, awesome lyrics and a very classic rock sound, also great guitar work, rated and recommended.
Thanks 4 the comment on my tune.Nicely done track right here , has that 70s rock sound. I like how you sing this tune, everything sounds crisp. Niceone
Musically this feels like pin floyd to me, which is cool. Lyrically i love this alot. Taking different perspectives into account in different verses is very good. The writing style flows well and the vocals carry off the futility of war very well. Ace track
oh wow this is a bit reminiscent of eric clapton, can't think which song, but the style in general. great vox, excellent arrangement, and yes, a choir would go so well here. x
Good song writing. I As Marty says, the combination of the organ and the guitar works really eerie. I can here a choir back there too. A little post production added to this and you have a very good track. I get a pink floyd feel. Your son going to Afganistan is very heavy man.... best of luck to him.
Well just thought id stop by and listen to this James, i dont think i have even listened to one of your songs yet so i know i took my time but im here now! lol Ok back to the track, its sounds really good! Some great guitar workk and that organ/choir combo is really adding a great gothic-like atmosphere to the track. You do sound like Billy Idol funnily enough, even tho Billy is a little mental he does rock! I dont really know what else to say on this because it isnt really the type of music id listen to much other than on the radio btu i will say it sounds very pro and something that id hear on the radio! Anyways best of luck with it James! Marty
very good vocals really cool guitar and i love that organ to bits :) the production on this is dam right amazing...very retro...this sounds like it was made in the 70's...i have one small problem.. and its just nit picking...its not very original...dont let that spoil your fun...cos the performance all round is as close to perfection as you probably ever get... kudos to you thumbs up
I don't listen to too much rock, Billy Idol's who I like, the poeticness of this song sounds similar to some of his work plus I know where your coming from on this so I rated you.
Amazing arrangement snd recording.....not a genre I can really comment on but I know talent when I hear it......lyrically very dark......wonderful guitar. Kevin Mooney
Captured the sombre mood of the subject really well. Bit of Brother's In Arms vibe too, but it's not always easy to get the same subtlety, so full marks there. Bit cliche, but maybe some extra use of the military snare, so you get an impending doom or something? Rated dude, good track.
No Pink Floyd here! (hmmm...) You can't help but sound like him cos of ur vocal stylings - but that's a good thing! Dramatic song - i get the message, wrote a few anti-war ones myself. Rated man.
I'm not familiar with Uriah Heep, Focus,or Argent. maybe I should check them out. And your right sounds nothing like Pink Floyd ha ha. And you don't look like Dave Gilmour in your new pic, a bit like Bernard Sumner from New Order Methinks! Back to the track which is very impressive. A great example of what one can achieve with modern home recording equipment of course a little skill is important too. The fade out is the only (Minor) bad thing about it. Cheers:-)
Nice one James. It's easy to become lost in this song and miss the great production. Argent eh - you can certainly hold your head up !!
well dang, showing off those production skills once again (; this def gets a specific message across. loved the guitar solo peices, really gives the track alot of character. sorry. another cracking tune from ya! well done!
Very dramatic and the vocal really reminded us of Roger Waters. Nice guitar work going on here - really like the understated stuff going on under the vocal. Excellent stuff!
You have a nice voice so I think you are just as much a singer as a songwriter ;) The music is great, really dramatic, with all the most dramatic bits in all the right places, if you get what I mean lol. Yer enjoyed this listen. Great work!
pink floyd sounds, peter gabriel vocals, but nevertheless an original sound. i love the guitar sounds. the lyrics are very dark, but they match the theme. the fade at the end does not sound right, it does not really fade out, it just stops suddenly. well constructed song!
opposed....and louder...typos sorry!!
Don't ask me why James but I heard "War of the Worlds" and really could imagine a Richard Burtonesque spoken lyric as oposed to the singing voice. It has power already and either a loder vocal or a similar addition like I have said would be awesome. The message has the power and the guitar after each verse is very strong indeed. I am defo giving a rating and a deserved nom! Well Done Andy
Hey there James, yeah I can hear the Mick Box influence in this, you just might have a chart topper here my friend. Production is tight, structure is awsome. Instruments flow very well. Vocals could be a little louder. Nice work. Rated Dan
Quality stuff. One of your very best. OK, I was expecting something a bit more from the ending rather than just a fade out, but that's a minor quibble with a really fine track. Thanks for the download! ;-)
When i first listened the synths start i was thinking ho hum whats this... but then the bass and guitar kick in... and whey hey. The bass sound is excellent. the guitar playing is sublime. And all this played to the atmospheric sound of the synths. Very well sung and a good anti war song. I like your vocal style and the fact you sing in tune. hehe. If i was to be nit picky i'd drop the synths occasionally or fad them into the background. But thats just a personal choice. Overall this is very impressive good work James. Cheers Rogue
Yeah it's futile commenting about the "conflicts". and Dave, you are right about the final verse being the driving force behind the lyrics. Right from the start it was the driving force but then I got to realizing how much similarity there is between both conflicting sides but still it is a futile weak gestre!!
Okay, I hear the Heep, I hear the Argent, but I must be a little outta Focus. Whadaya mean no Pink Floyd influence? I think it's worked it's way into your genes, man, or maybe that was just a floydian slip there at the intro and during that "Animals" like lead. Ya listen to some great bands, dude, and squeezed a bit of their mojo into this. Great arrangement, and a really good performance. Lyrics made me wince. Points for pointing out the ghastliness of several parties in the current conflict, but it all just seems so futile, you know? How many generations have we spent doing the same thing to one another over and over again? Lamenting the "inhumanity" of it is like complaining about a rock not standing up and moving into the shade. Last verse and truth comes out, you nailed that one. Interesting piece, certainly got me to thinking.
like steve just said .. defo your vocal style for me that carries the music forward, top track m8:) rated!
This reminds me of brothers in arms by Dire straits..its my fave of theirs and i think its the keys and the soloing that remind of it, even your voc style perhaps..nicely arranged, it has that 70's lo fi feel. Lyrically interesting. Certainly gets my rating.
makes sense to me...and my remark was only made from the viewpoint of wanting to be counted as an opposer of ALL violence for whatever reason...I guess I am not a fence sitter on that issue but I am also a vanguard in the protection of the right to free speech...so I applaud your frankness...honestly I do.
Thanks so far folks. Lyrically I was a bit nervous about this song. I have tried to compose the lyrics so that work in either direction i.e. they could equally be made by some oik down the local pub as they could be made by some oppressed and bombed civilian in Afghanistan/Iraq/wherever. In other words, the same sentiment applies to joe public no matter which side of the conflict you are on. The Backdrop to this is my lad going to Afghanistan in Sept and this has given me some grief. "Death to" lyrics is ambiguous because it implies either a threat or a realization. Does this make sense?
Fantastic outstanding stuff! top-notch guitar skills there, and love the melody/chord movements. Production-wise,Bass-kick seems a bit too loud tho. Lyrics are your personal thing, but perhaps occassional subtle moments could make them deeper (e.g. "Flowers" to soldiers, implying not just death but funerals and loss to loved ones). It's already a top track anyway, one of the best of the best.
A nice track, The guitar sounds good along with the rythmn... Nice work.
Hi James, you said be harsh about the lyric...I know what you mean but I cannot find fault technically...brilliant stuff. I might not wholly agree with the content because I am a pacifist and, I am afraid, a bit of an agnostic, but nonetheless the general anti-.... message is one I do agree with and I wholeheartedly applaud you for standing up to be counted. Music is glorious, befitting an anthem...and to me it sounds NOW despite any influences...a kind of Queen anthem for today. Bravo and of course rated!
just saw yer pic too lmaoooooooo we wanna see yer DAW...no yer ugly mug!....tee hee
I can understand why some ppl think of the floyd link.....but, for now, ill think of the Oakwood similarity!! This couldve been a real cult track 30yrs ago...(thats not meant as an insult btw.,....more the opposite.) I feel it has that massive late 60s psychodelic sound that was so popular then. Its got the lingering beat, the sweeping dreaming sounds...and a guitar that is `claptonish` and which u play so well. U amaze me on ur ability to get such a big sound.....sittin in ur house!!! gets a rate and a nom fae me m8. well done.
I know nothing of this genre so I cant comment about production but it sounds great to me. Guitar work is brilliant as is the bass. Percussion is tight and the changes are very good. Gets my vote. Barry
Floyd Pink? anyway, this is a really top draw track James, this has a 'classic track' sound about it, reminds me a little of P Gabriel's style...think i might have mentioned that before on a previous track, I couldn't really say what you could do to improve upon it...so I'm gonna nick a download now, everything sounds bang on to me, guitar and keys sound spot on, vocals are sorted, simply a great track, rated for you :)
Well... I like the not Pink Floyd comment ;-) I'ts difficult as you know not to hear the Floyd inspiration, I don't have a problem with that co's I love this sort of music, and I reckon that this is a rather fine offering from you, I have listened a couple of times to this, trying to find something to comment on or constructlvly crit, but to be honest I can't really find anything.. so I am going to say I think it's great, lyrics, guitar, vocs, drums, choir and mix etc all seem to be spot on to me... so fab job mate.. enjoyed it very much!!! well done!
Welcome back from you time away! Good time spent so I'm hearing. What a killer tune mister - not sure how much more you are wanting to tinker with on this but it's very good as it sits. Pink who? lol... Fllllabulous! ;)
Found this song very "Pink Floydish" in sound and structure. Great chord progression and I like your choice of backing sounds...leslied B3 and the choir. Guitar hook really works well and what a great tone too! Well done James! R8!
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
