Yeah nice track with good vocals and guitar which has a good feeling . The only thing which didn't quite work is the strange drum rolls which were at odds with the rest of the track
I can still see the broad draped across the piano!! Great hearing you again, Andy. Lost your email address when my computer crashed, drop me a line sometime, wouldya?
Never heard this one before today. Beautifully arranged song with some great chord progressions. Enjoyed your vocal that suits these lyrics so well. Thoroughly enjoyed and rated.
Decided to giv this one some more treatment on the equing like city lights
Very moving song, haunting in a way. I like pretty much everything about it, with the exception of the quick drum fills, they are a bit of a distraction to me, but I seem to be alone on that (at least in the beginning of the song, they sound more at home when the song gets bigger toward the end). I remember hearing an earlier version and liking it then too. Take a rate!
Strong track with a '70s-style sound/vibe. I second the Floyd allusions mentioned by others. Gets my rating.
Catching up late as usual. Lush is the right word for this production! I wanted a backing line on the chorus to lift it. Well done for all the hard work, it's worth it.
Pman is my artist name(Timothy Bennett)
James you sound great! I am new on the site! My studio is similar to yours. Big things come in small packages !It's all how you present your music! Will check my soundtrack out & tell me what you think ? keep up the good work!!
Another great song. It's kind've kind a Pink Floydish vibe to me. Nice vocals. Another rate for me.
Dam this is a beautiful song. Great vocs and chord progess. Just a beautiful mix. rated from Eric/Bad Love Junkie
I shouldn't read the comments before I respond. I totally hear the Oasis and Floyd references. Makes me feel oddly reflective and melancholy (sp?) a rate from me for emotion.
Apologies. Been back and rated it. Meant to do so previously.
Tidy wee track. I can certainly hear some Roger Waters type Pink Floyd in there. Bass runs are well smart. Love the slidey guitar. Excellento!
Very well produced and the guitar bends are very well done. Like the lead on this as well.
I'd love to say something excessively technical but i have no idea! Nice track, completely different from what i was expecting from Burton!
Excellent full sound and some lovely bass runs. Voice is good - a little of the Peter Gabriel in it which I like. Interesting studio photo. I have a similar one, like you, to prove what can be done on home gear. Song rated.
Hi, Vocals grabbed me right away...awesome! Very powerful and moving. Great lyrics too. Really enjoyable solo! Well done. Rated. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
I have Rated this already, But nothing wrong with a 2nd or 3rd listen, esp when it is as good as this! Vin
Hi Andy! Sorry its taken me so long to get around to this!...This is a great song mate! Beautiful little piano hook, and memorable vocal melody! Some superb changes running thru this track, supreme songwriting! Love that slide guitar coming in and out of this, adds a lot of ambience and feel. My only negative point would be the drums. They dont match the quality of the rest of the instruments, and sound slightly synthetic. Maybe a bit of eq to give them a bit of fullness?....only a minor niggle tho. The song as a whole, is absolutely A1! Rate and nom man! Mark
wow!! you have great voice that I envy, if I have that voice I'll do magic with my music. keep on composimg good songs like this one.
Nice stuff there......drums could be bigger for me but yes this is a top drawer song. Kevin Mooney
I love the way that fluttering bass line follows the drums during the fills! That attention to detail's a calling card of yours, chief, and one you should be proud of. I bow in reverence of your awesome production skills.
I can detect the slightest referance to a famous song that I just can't put my finger on, how clever of you! The epic Floyd influence is there as usual, but that only represents a small part. The song manages to sound classic and contemporary at the same time, an achievement in itself. Nice work -take a rate!
Fantastic track! Great vocals/lyrics..well mixed..beautiful strings and piano..wicked! =)
Great production on this track. Love the emotion in the vocals. The backing track is ace! This is such a great song :) love it
cool track andy...nice vocals and musical backing...no getting out of the floyd zone i take it? hehehehe...don't think you could even if you wanted to thumbs up
I really like how this song builds from almost nothing to big at the end. Great production.
Excellent rock balladry with a fine production too. I certainly wouldn't hold my head in shame if I could come up with this type of quality. Good work.
its hard to believe that you can create this on your own, very impressed.Really good production such attention to detail, heart felt songwriting take a rate from me
Andy, I'm feeling your pain. I hear your tears. My husband said it sounds like Pink Floyd so that is a very good thing. Beautiful rock ballad. I really like the music. I like it when you build it up. Some of your chords are really cool. Rated.
Hey Andy. Sorry m8....i aint been around for ages ...just catchin a few spare mins here n there. Anyways......i LIKE THIS!!. Ur one heck of a talent mr. Ur knowledge of chord structure and progression is nothin short of professional. I couldnt begin to touch this. A crackin song ...wow....guitars just come in.....grrrr....show-off!!. Ur prod skills are worthy of a good hangin too m8(wheres my rope!) This gets all from me....Rs and Ns Best, Mick
Hiya, Sonya here, had a listen to your track again, much better improvement (not that I thought there was much wrong with the last one), very well produced, and like your voice, love the brass and the distorted guitar. An easy rate from me! Well done.
dropped by for another listen -brilliant stuff.
the lyrics were the first to catch me on this one dude - and the lovely over active bass! (i'm a bass player first and foremost so love to hear them bass runs...) those pink flloyd references are coming up again! It's the voice mane and the massive dramatic songs that does it! All round good listen. Rated!
Hi James, Nice orchestral backing that lifts this. I found that the track did everyhting I wanted (if that makes sense) throughout. Great track and absolutely stunning lyrics delivered passionately and appropriately. Thoroughly enjoyable!
intense breathy vocals. good solid songwriting. this song reminds me of pink floyd in their "another brick" phase. good work.
Very touching song, vocals are great....I love your voice it's really soothing. Love all the different little elements going on. Great stuff ;)
Quality through and through... your arrangements and production get better and better. Just a teeny suggestion but that cymbal sitting out at the end sounds a bit detached to me... I'd love to hear it going back to the solo piano at the end (to make it come a complete circle) or maybe that would be a bit cliched...? Anyway, the slides are indeed great, and this is one of your best vocal performances I would say. Cool stuff.
This song reminds me (forgive me of saying so but it is a high compliment from me) of a Mark Alexander/Mark Holley song...they are superb at these huge production numbers and so is this song. The lyrics are superb (I am envious) and all the right elements are in there for a big build up. It's brilliant, Andy and gets my nom for sure.
Wow! Such a great track! Sounds so pro and crystal clear - I can hear you gave the whole production another sweep. The guitars and the somewhat Mexican sounding brass you added, since I heard it the last time, are truly a fine touch. I find it amazing that this track is done by a solo musician and it's defintely a number 1 for me. Hope you hear my handclaps :-)!
Oasis, Phil Collins, The Beatles, Peter Gabriel, Whoa!! Who are you??? lol ;-) Dave Gilmour or Tom Robinson maybe?;-) Seriously though, it's another great song mate, good melody, builds nicely, well constructed, and I too love the slide, works really well. The lyrics are cool as well, all round it is (i'm on my third listen now, so I must like it) a fab song..Big thumbs up!!!
Well written and singing is sitting sweet in the mix. Neat guitar playing ;) Solid song Andy - thumbs up.Peace x
Wow..Andy this is fabulous! Peter Gabriel reminiscent...Love the vocals and melodies! Song structure is is pro and nice slides! Even a nicer break! Nice clear production and final! R8!
I never heard V1, but wow.. this is a big track, you vocals along with the piano are stand out parts, and those lyrics..well, I for one can closley relate to the subject matter...good stuff mate and best of luck with it :)
Beautiful piano and loverly vocals, love the slide guitar, got a pink floyd feel to it,
V2 up
DUDE, thee ain't a damm thing on this song that needs fixin'as you mentionrd in the forum. Got a great Beatles feel to it. Very, very nice lyrics. Vocals are there and the instumation and mix is super. Nice guitar solo and love the piano. Rated for being a real good tune. Peace, Doc
I love everything about this song, Vocals are Strong and your talent shines all over this track, I enjoyed this very much! Vin
Lovely track Andy!Vocals well controlled in my opinion. Piano is cool and easy to rate this track. Andy :)
Very laid back, almost a "lounge" sort of pop, I can see this being played in a smoky club with some half dressed broad draped across your piano. I don't trust my ears enough to offer constructive crit, but the production seems to be all I've come to expect from a James Oakwood tune, Andy. Classy job with the vocals, and a pretty nifty arrangement too, I might add. Rated.
Sounds completely natural to me Mark. If it were quantized it would sound robotic, this isnt. The nano second delays play an important part and sets you apart from other artists as demonstrated in this track, which is by the way awesome. rated dude. Baz
nice track... production sounds good and the piano is nice too... do you record in midi and then quantize the piano or record straight to audio... just curious.... Love the harmonies and guitar accents throughout! R
All concerns I had with the work in progress have been addressed, this is quite a superb song, production is spot on, vocals are clear as a bell, all the the little production flourishes are lovely, the strings have been improved, guitar solo added, brass refined, bass sounds better in the mix, drums were already spot on, nice little guitar bends here and there. Good lyrics, honestly cant fault it at all (and you know I would If anything didn't feel right) Take a rate and my last nom, it's a cracker :)
V1 up dudes. Ta for the lovely comments below now get back here and rate it hee hee
I'm afraid that I can't give you really good tips on this one. But I sure can say that this is another exemple for your excellent songwriting talent. I like it a lot, love the piano and your vocs/lyrics and I'm sure it's gonna be a great success. It might be a good idea to add some brass overlays to the strings in some places, just to enhance some parts. The more I listen to it, the more I get the feeling that it really doesn't take much anymore. You are almost there. Hope inspiration will be with you knowing very well how it is to be a solo musician.
I really love your vocal delivery, you really mean it don't you! Brilliant lyricals. Lush is the word i use for your stuff, so full and really what a song shuold be (for me) you have a BIG fan James.
Hi James, I listened to your track, I guess us solo artists can be too hard on ourselves at times. I think this track is good, any improvements made will just make it better. There is a touch of Phil Collins sounding in the vocals, you have a good pop/rock type of voice. Just continue with what you're doing. The song is there really, maybe some tweaks is all thats needed. Thanks for your comments on my previous ballad, Sonya Stewart.
lush piano keys dude real sweet.. nice chord changes too .. you said your stuck? well seems well good to me. nice lyrics.. kinda remind me of oasis there acoustic stuff they used to shovel out lol.. anyway gotto mentiuon that 80,s vocal thats what it reminds me of from yesteryear ... nice subtle tone you got to your singing voice.. forgot the main melody.. well its defo gonna get me to come back and rate when complete. top song dude. well made indeed:O)
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
