A fitting classy tribute to a classy athlete. Thanks for the tribute, a good reminder of the journeys of those who forged places in our collective consciousness. Thumbs!
You have a flair for this type of track and it suits your vocal style. This is a gem of a song and we must have missed it before during the summers we are off site. Love your choice of instruments and that is a cool guitar solo. Great to hear this and thanks for your advice.. Thumbs Arriba
Aw you guys!! Yeah me on the lectric James - I also have a great fondness for Tom Baker - but, credit where credit's due - the man - Mohammed ali - them were the days when you could admire a black muslim and all yer mates and family would understand AND not a word of prejudice or outrage to be seen.
I remember this one! A beut of a song, Andy, glad you brought it back out...nice tribute to one of the most amazing boxers to ever grace the ring. Impressed me four and a half years ago...and I'm still blown away...:)
Always quality coming from you Andy. This obviously has a "Yellow Submarine" vibe but I suppose you could keep much worse company. Super mix, recording and production! I'm hearing a hint of "floyd" here and there in bits and pieces. Nice work!
Hi Andy - bouncy pop with a late 60s feel in places - is that you on lead guitar? stunning solo mate - so this is an oldie? - has a catchy feel good melody and the style is just pure Oakwood - really really good - never been keen on boxing so Ali meant nothing to me - Tom Baker was my hero when i was a kid :-) thumbs - James
Just beautifull
Just found you today James thanks to another of your tracks that lured me into your web. This lil old fly is sitting here enjoying this uplifting ditty very eloquently produced. Ant
Hi James, don't know how I missed this one - just sort of noticed it in the charts again. Anyway, has a cool retro sound to it, guitarwork included. Cool production by the way and the vocal harmonies are perfect. Easy to listen to and easy to rate.
Hey Andy. Wow, what a great surprise. A James Oakwood that's been out but I have never experienced. Just love this song. GO FIGURE.... Dan
10 seconds in ...im hooked this is pure class.Like the tone of your guitar on the first and third solo. And the you throw in a very cool solo on the second. The vocals are top,all this from that picture below.Crackin tunage!
Has a '70s retro sound for me, with a touch of the Beatles. Clean and smooth production/vox with nice instrumental breaks. Rated.
Nice dute. rated
love the harmonies; remind me of super furry animals; cheers for comments on bewlays
excellent production here. greal vocals and harmonies. very very tasty guitar playing.
I definitely hear a lot of Beatles influence in a lot of your stuff - really cool song!
Love the new mix, still think this is one of your best tracks, if not THE best. This is always the one to beat when working on a new track for me, the yardstick if you will, and a great vocal on this from lead to background. Best guitar solo as well lol :)
REMASTERED NOV O7. Still needs work doing in the mix on cymbals and vox eq.
Love it,Always a pleasure to listen to your tunes. Everything is Mixed so well and your vocal is addictive. Great One! Vin
Hey.. I finally made it over to take a listen! This one I really like and quite rightly made it to the official charts! Going to do that rate thing... cause I think it should go back into the charts... :c)
This track is a miracle, love it instantely from the outset. Guitar work is superb, as is the whole production of this track. An easy vote for me also. Barry
as per your recommendation i came for a listen :D 1st off, great production - really like the harmonies and I sill imagine this style being quite tricky to mixdown, if this is all your work (as in a solo production,) it is even more impressive. yeh i love the piano action backing up and leading the melodies. great voice btw. the guitar action is bloody good. easy rate James.
Awesome track, pure pop goodness, great vocal, harmonies, stunning guitar track. Right up my street :)
Where have I been??? Brilliant, right up my alley. You cant beet a great tune can you -and this is right up there. This means i have to look as some more of your stuff..ahh well.... must be done :)))
Like it... Good guitar stuff! Not surprised it did well in the chart. Rated mate.
Very nice. My cup of tea. Lyrics that don't treat the listener like an imbicile, and lovely melody. Nice one.
well..this is a great track! Highly melodic, and great guitar on it ;)
Can't see how I missed this one... Anyway, I'm here now, and it's a beaut! Your voice really suits this quirky style and the arrangement is extremely smart. Nice guitar work (and choice of effects); not much to find fault with at all mate! Class.
Nice work, James! Like the sentiment behind the lyric, and the arrangement and harmonies remind me somewhat of a Beatles number. Great job on the vocals, and some killer guitar riffs i this one!
I'm much impressed with raggy's comment in the forum about this song. I hope he's not offended that I've put it here.... "I've listened to the song a few times now, been trying to think of a proper way to describe it....well here is what I think: If you never wrote or played another song again, you've still already made your mark in the world with this song! That guitar solo is just stunning. The sheer audacity of it, the articulation........ I bet Bob Brannan and Sir Dan would have been proud if they'd done that. no14 in Nov 2006? It must have been a stupid month on mp3U, that's when I joined hahahahah" - Thanks for this comment Raggy
Great track! Loads of life, superb sound! Enjoyed it a lot. Mat.
brilliant!
Very cool song - beautiful changes and excellent vox - was a pleasure to listen to:-)
hey this is your BEST I've heard, mate, simply SUPERB song! Is that you playing the guitars? awesome, just AWEsome!
darkness! sounds really santana in places the production could do with a little cut at the top end and some more bass to add
very nice guitar dude.....gr8 vocals....and the solo is perfectomondo :)love the organ...i cant find anything i dont like...maybe as red said could do with a little less hi end... but sounds good through my cheapo laptop speakers :)very beatles in feel... nice and retro :) love it dude thumbs up....and thanks for the comments on our page :)
not my genere but this is very good mate,i got an early beatles/beautyful south vibe from this, rated,GETE.
on my heads this sounds very hi end. i might cut a bit off the top. but song wise i am loving the vocals. i think your an excellent singer. if it wasnt for the hi end id nominate this one, good enough for a rate though, and im loving the queen style lead guitar
this is a crackin song....and got the prod` to boot as well. Great structure, playing, and brilliant vox. talented guy are u. rated
Ahead of 'Why do you want to put stars in their eyes?' by several months. Hmm. I like this. Special mention to the guitar solo lines.
This is great, for us it's the strongest of the bunch - extremely catchy and the harmonies are great. We think your voice is really well suited to this kind of stuff, probably more so than the rockier stuff. Second solo is on now - lovely choice of notes. More like this!
I can't remember how the previous version sounded but this is top quality sond production. Having a decent song as a base alway's helps. I'm not surprised this one charted, how about having another re-entry? ;)
uploaded remastered version
thats a great pop song, remindes me a bit on world party. superb cheers, mark
hey! like this track very much. really nice vocals! keep up the good work. take care. rated.
This is good. I like the harmonised vocal melodies, and there is some nice lead guitar work. The keyboards are very complimentary.
Very sophisticated pop sensibilites coming thru' me earphones here. I like the Elliot Smith/Badly Drawn Boy vibe, keep 'em coming!! Best wishes from the Shed!
Yes hearing Beach Boys, Beatles, and Supertramp.....and it sounds original having said all that....It's really good and gets my first ever nomination! Kevin Mooney.
hey - this is cool ! Great vocals - reminds me of the beach boys ! Great melodies too - getting loads a great bands in my head when listening to this ! Its psychdelic! The criticism i would have is the drums but thats all buddy! Rated great song and good guitar licks - very good
Hi James, yeah like this. Harmonies sound really good and the style is right up my street. Top song guv
Another SUPERB vocal James. What a great song. Well composed, mixed, produxced and, most importantly, keeps you listening right until the end.I am still amazed at the amount of top talent on this site. Keep them coming James. Have a nom..........
Very Englishy feel. Like the little touches and your chord changes. Some tight guitar in there.Class tune.
yes it was the song dreamer i was hearing on the intro...good stuff
im hearing a bit of 70's in this song like elo esque and supertramp..with a little floyd in the way your vocal harmonies work so well i.ll give this a very apreciative rascilly rating and im gonna recomend you too as this is class man...welcome
Nice poppy, bouncy feel to this - really isn't my usual preferred style of listening, but it's f*ckin good stuff. Like Ricky said (MD-1), quite a tasty little guitar solo there. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who likes well performed pop music with a hint of psychedelia. Rated, Etc...
Hi James! Nice song! Enjoyed the smoothness of this track. Everything just seemed to fit perfectly! Rated and recommend you! Best of wishes, Carol Sue :)
I like this song a lot. Has a Psychodelic feel to it. Great vocals and harmonies. GOod structure. Love the hammond sound as well. ya harmonies are really grabbing me as I listen as I type. Nice guitar work. Great Job James Rated!!!
Hi James, Very cool!!Beautiful vocs !!! Got a sense of style !!! Harmonies are ace(most of them )!!! Alot of bottom is comin thru ..I would say to lower the bass a little Beatiful soulful song !! I wouls also say to change the tone of the distorted guitar(clean one is perfect)...The lead at the end is ace !!!...don't know if I'd do a lead over the vocs...distacts a little... As stated below..this has got pizazz...a hook ...somethin !!! Hope this helps Bob
head bopping goodness.
Hi, Catchy, clean track. Like the harmonies. Very pleasant guitar work. Smooth sound. Does sound a bit Beatlesque (which is a good thing), but only the flavour. Good work. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
great track with stunning vocals well done..rated
Really Like the vocal harmonies. Great production. Everything is clear and easy to listen to. At times I felt there was a Beatles feel to this... a good thing.. in my book. Anyway James top marks from me. Cheers Rogue
Nice harmonies, melody is good, and the clean instrumental backing works really well, guitar is fab too,yep I like this, it's a very good pop song, the only thing I found a little odd was some of the drum fills, but it's a minor point and does'nt detract from what is for me a fine offering... well done.. gets a rating from me.
What a refreshing change...a genuine pop song that doesn't grate....it's really lovely and takes itself seriously...like the best pop of the sixties (there was a lot of dross but some really great pop songs too) A|gree with Ricky...gr8 lyric and hook...yep yep worth a rating from me easy peasey!!
really nice vocals :) very nice track gr8 lyrics everything flows really well very modern yet with a retro vibe and a really tasty guitar solo :) gr8 hook through out the track yup i very much like this top track m8 thumbs up
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
