Jesus aint comin
Not heard a new song from you for ages. What's up? You are definitely a miss - your comments are the ones we all hope to get. Its because you are insightful and honest but always fair and constructive. It may hurt sometimes but it does make one strive to do better. I looked at my comment from last year for this track - harsh. I think i was in a bad mood and half cut when i wrote it. I guess i cant take it back but hope you will believe me when i say i didnt mean it. I'm listening on monitor speakers this evening and the production on "Jesus Aint Coming" has been the most professional sounding so far. Love the guitar work particularly. Hope to hear a new track from you in the future.
Cant believe its over a year since i commented on this, still sounding great.
Ah cant vote twice, but still great to revisit this tune fella.
Man, these lines! Some of your best, but then I'm always a sucker for quasi-religious themes, ha ha. Excellent sound,I can still hear the Steely Dan influence with this one, and a bit of Crow, lol. Great song!
Man this is one of my fav's from you A-man....hmmm, that's more accurate than one might know i suspect (the name). Anyway....very cool song and enjoyed the listen again. Not sure why it's not on my ilist to play, tis now....
Jesus did come...you didn't recognize him at the door and sent him on his way ;)...great music...guitar,bass, drums...all superbly crafted...smokey vocals suit it mighty well...lyrics are cute and on the tongue-in-cheek side of the street, but I did smile throughout...I prefer the sun and the sand to the "sleazy little bar..." but hey, that's just me. Great tune, regardless how it is used :) ba-da-dum-dum---ooh--wah-ohh...etc :D
Always enjoy your music, trouble is... it makes me think :) "working on stuff from home today" great line ... Phil
okay sleazy little bar put me out. nighty nite.
okay how can I pass this up.. thanks andy you fixed me for sleep!
Top quality production James, smooth as vodka mate. Dont think i'll shop at sainsburys any more, just incase ;)
Hey James, this is outstanding and clearly one of your best IMHO. Love the lyric. I don't hear the "nasal" quality Tony refers to but maybe that's just me...I like the vocal! Guitar very tasteful and well placed throughout and I love the chop chop of that organ in the rhythm. Really nice work! Thumbs up!
James... Very cool track!...You really do have a natural ability when it comes to the mixing side of music...Everything fits together so very well. But then again I am sleep deprived and a bit drunk ;) The truth is that I'm a huge Steely Dan fan and I have to agree with a few others opinions that you've captured the essence of their sound on this. Really enjoyed the track James Nice one! Eric
A wonderfully accomplished, and to my ears, a finished track, all the elements sound clear and balanced to me. I can hear blends of Steely Dan and Jerry Garcia in the wonderful guitar figures. Totally cool lyrics and good singing make this a winner for me! Cheers, Andrew
Andy this is a really polished track . Yeah cant believe it I like this fella lol. Not hear for the levels etc.... Leave that to others .Just listened to it as a tune and grooved. It's one of ya best . Will sort that eq lol. Clever bleeder.
hey James see your name on many sites and I know why.. you're a great artist.. even if this is unfinished it is good listening..
Really super production Andy, so much space between all the various instruments and parts. The little guitar parts are excellent. Lyrics are cool and the vocals work well. Thumbs up dude;)
Ok its a good song and the production is perfectly polished. Buts it just feels predictable. More of the same, Oakwood by numbers. Would really like to hear something raw and raucous or stripped back in which you bare your soul . A different vocal sound. A live feel. Experimental and off the wall. I said something similar to Lodato and he took offence. Like i said to him it is only my opinion and you have the option to ignore. Rated still because it is good.
Hey James, Thanks for stopping by and for the support/feedback on the new collab/song! Much appreciated!
Hi James, Sorry I missed this one. This is quite cool! Sounds great! Nice production. Really like the percussion and instrumentation choices. This actually sounds super warm. Nice job! Thumbs up
Yeah, I've been telling Drummer that he ain't coming! He seems to like hearing you say it better though man. He puts his fingers in his ears when I tell him. You got a real cool way of letting him down easy, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, I think you do.
Whoah....very nice! Exceptionally good lyrics/vocals, and arrangement and production's right up there too. I hear the "Sheryl Crow" Ant mentioned, but I'm more reminded of Steely Dan. That sleazy guitar solo's superb! Great job, man...
Always impressed with your skills from playing to recording and mixing. Very impressed! Sure wish I had some of those. Good as usual -Mike
I`ll start by echo'ing echo'ing ..... Dave's remarks on the production quality now to the track... Sheryl Crow would love what you have done with her original and if you want my opinion I think she would be a tad jealous - its has no definitive hook that I can grab hold on too but there is more than enough variety to keep a man interested for the duration. Vocal is sounding in top form you kicked the cancer sticks? Thumz up pal and dont get to upset at the Sheryl Crow tease :) Ant
Andy, i never heard the orginal so i cant mention that... Sound quality is solid, voice recording is very HQ mate... nice use of vocal expression and tone and the vocal melody and design is class... Last time i heard you was a while back and this is good as this sounds like a new you, corners turned in vocal use, tone, pacing and character, even more confident than previous! Good solid track, high values all over mate!
So so much nicer my friend. This is beautiful all around the spectrum. This deserved perfection and it's as close as ya can get imo. very nice.
Sweet vibe...thought it was a little under-served a bit by the topic, but now that I've had a few listens, it all works. The seller is the track...the well-crafted parts...little riffs that meander and meld, flowing in and throughout...wandering bass...minimal percussion that just moves this along gently. Liked the oohs and aaahs the best..;) That caught the lighter side of the sun you want to feel. Excellent track! Thumbs!
Well-spotted Jenny (now i feel embarassed)
Cool bass intro. Very polished mate. I like the Sainsbury's ref, very English, but goes a bit American with 'sleezy little bar', still, nowt to shout about. Like the panned guitar leads, where did you get that idea... Your voice has gone a bit nasal on this one, highly distinctive but a touch distracting. I like the backing vox, nicely understated. Hardly a snare to moan about, damn! This could be the number 1 you've been moanin about not getting recently (bunt). Suppose I'd better stick me thumb up.
Very pro mix. Everything perfectly placed. Cool subject matter, fags booze and drugs. The rock n roll lifestyle and Jesus aint comin to the party. Shame. Like the gravelly vocals and the nod to Sheyrl Crow at the start of verse 2.
Andy! This is fantastic and I always love your imaginative lyrics they are very good. A nice smooth vibe to it. Really enjoyable. top notch and wrapped in a vote from me. Take Care Andy :)
This is an excellent tune! The kick back music and humbling lyrics make this a great drinking song. I really like the non-words that you use in this. The guitar sounds really good. I'm glad you didn't listen to those Glue Monsters - they're strange! LMAO!!
yeah andy, i really dig the music as i said when you originally posted this. Now i have two wonderful musical gems from ya......you did well with this as the instrumental had me more than satisfied....
I really enjoyed this song, bass line from the intro, some lovely guitar work, great lyrics and the drum pattern is perfect. Rated and DL,thank you. Gibbo
Nice mellow sound to this one. Not as strong as some of the other stuff i,ve heard from you (everything from Ketchup Killer onwards and one or two others from your back catalogue) .The instrumentation makes this track for me - the guitar work particularly. Like those melodic backing vocal things you do mind - they sound great - really tight. Production is sublime of course. Thumbs. James
Hi James. This track very much touches on an athiest views but I like the lyrics about Jesus working in Sainsburys but my favourite line is about you with your cigarettes in the sleazy little bar. The music is nicely laid back and your vocals are cool. Like the thought behind this song. Glad that it's the opposite to heavy so well done on thiat. Very thoughtful song. PJ
Nice melody structure ya got going here Andy. I can't make out all the words but try that on one of my tunes lol. thanks for the lyrics. Panned guitars are nice. You sure love that low bass man. For me, it's a tad muddy and obscures your vocal to much but that's my taste and that's all. Great as usual everything you touch.
Little birdie told me... so, Happy Birthday to you today! :)
Such an accomplished singer, songwriter you are, Andy~ and this song, I could easily listen to on the repeat mode... (that's me hitting the d/l-thank you!) =BRAVO!= :)
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
