A Family With Talent: Rob's father is singer Houston Wells, who in 1963 had a hit record with "Only The Heartaches", reaching number 18 on the UK charts, with his band The Marksmen. Only the heartaches stayed in the UK charts for 6 weeks, and reached number 7 in the Irish charts, and stayed in the Irish charts for 10 weeks. Through the 60's and 70's Houston Wells also sang for several other bands in the UK The Masters, The Outlaws and in Ireland The Premier Aces, The Trident Showband. Recent years have seen Houston Wells recording new material, both with a host of session musicians, as well as with his son Rob. When you finally get your hands upon a collection of the modern works from this true legend of the UK and Ireland music scene's you will be astounded at his versatility, you will marvel at how well he has managed to reinvent himself without ever losing the knack of bringing out the beauty of the written lyric. What you will also hear is the legacy of a talented family, for Rob has added his own influence to the recordings he has made with his father in an effort to bring new and inspired vision to some old favourites and some brilliant original recordings. Rob's 2 teenage daughters Catherine and Laura are both beautiful singers, they have accompanied their father and grandfather in their home studio (as well as having written their own material). 2005 saw the release of Rob Smith's debut CD "Be Careful What You Wish For", which has continued to garner both positive feedback and radioplay the world over. 2006 saw the follow-up CD "Actions Speak Louder Than Words", which again continued Rob's musical legacy. 2007 saw the release of the GONE WILD debut album "GONE WILD", with band members including regular collaborator and label associate Richard Anderson, Quadraphonic bass player Matt Sturgess and Norwegian musical wonderkind Nils-Ole Finbak. GONE WILD was a departure from the Rob Smith solo material, the intention was always to make the music different and above all....the band wanted to make the kind of music that they enjoy. GONE WILD are currently working on both the follow-up album "GONE WILD II" as well as filming videos for an upcoming DVD project, which will also feature band members solo and collaborative efforts respresented. Aside from his work as a solo artist, band member and label chief, Rob Smith is also a very much in demand producer, he has material from the following artists: The Candles, Houston Wells, Carol Smith, Hayley Oliver, Richard Anderson, Lexie Green, GONE WILD, Always Forever...with others to be added to this list soon. For more information on GONE WILD please refer to their myspace page at: http://www.myspace.com/gonewildnz "Be Careful What You Wish For", "Actions Speak Louder Than Words" and "GONE WILD" may all be purchased at: http://www.cdsuite.com/
Rob's wife Carol is also a magical singer, someone inspired by both the music of past era's as well as modern New Zealand music. Carol is currently in the throes of recording her debut CD "Tranquility" which will be released via Polar Music New Zealand.
