Turquoise feat. Tony Miller
Classic track here folks! What a treat. Got a big of Peter Gabriel vibe to this one. Still love it brother!
OK, my "re-release" kind of bombed (possibly because the forum thread announcing it linked to the first release - D'oh!), so I've deleted it. But I (and hopefully Tony, if he's watching from somewhere) did appreciate the comments it generated, so I'm posting them below for posterity. THE LATE DAVID MAIN said: 10 August 2015 04:29 "This made me smiiiiiiiile! Really good production - not just in terms of sound but imagination too. Excellent." GRAVITYSLIP said: 4 August 2015 16:03 "Great to hear this again,so glad you uploaded this Mc Squared.Nice slapbass and .Cool collab and to work with the great Mr Miller was a honour.See you on the other side Kev." ATUESDAYPARADOX said: 3 August 2015 06:50 "Pulling from many of the Funk greats yet sounding like none of them, massive infectious groove going on. Easy vote" KELLY MITCHELL said: 2 August 2015 10:00 "Nice Peter Gabriel vibe. Maybe a bit Byrne-ish too. Raising a Rolling Rock to TM. Very funky." DJC said: 1 August 2015 05:41 "Now I'm in a turquoise mood...thanks! T-Squared and MC Miller had it goin' on...damn shame this was all we got. Those guitars, that beat, those lyrics, those VOCALS!!! Thanks for posting the lyric, I had most of 'em including a few ya left out :) One of the best tunes I've heard on this site, Phil..." LODATO said: 1 August 2015 04:49 "((o_o)) -Here's looking at you T" Thank you! :)
DJC, I didn't actually "bring it out" at all. Haven't uploaded any tracks since April, and this one has been at the top of my playlist for months. I commented on RonD's new song, and he visited my page and commented on Turq. Now that you mention it, might be a good idea to "re-release" it... In the meantime I'll get typing those lyrics. (Oh, and Andy - they don't mean anything. Just the weirdest nonsense I could string together at the time ;) )
I still don't understand wtf this track is about LOL. Oh... happy b-day Mr. M.
Happy Birthday, Tony! Very thoughtful of ya Phil, bringing this party tune out for the occasion. Any chance you could post these lyrics? Makin' out most of 'em, but since the parental advisory's up I don't wanna miss a thing! Where's your government?
Yeah, this is cool. love the funky back riff. (Thumbs)
First, I must express my heart-felt thanks for your moving comments to me on my latest post. Words like those encourage me to continue and try to be productive. Second, the first thing that hits me in this exciting production is your infectious bass line. It serves to remind us composers not to neglect that all important register. This song is like a kaleidoscope, rich with rhythmic vitality. Moreover, this version is especially vibrant.
yeah, Tony's touches sure give this definition...from guitar bits to vocals..but your parts provided a strong foundation...nice to hear this Phil. Thanks!
il shall my that funk soulful vocal from a dear gent .. love this track guitar is sick and the beat is . 1970,z for me i love it . opener fr starky and hutch this should of been!!! good work guy,s god bless Tony RIP
I just love listening to his voice...I didn't know he'd done so many collaborations and this one is sooooo different from anything else I've heard him on....Phil your music is outstanding and together you made a doozy song here!
Brilliant, love this funky song. I guess this was released before i found mp3u. I didn't know Tony but i can hear how he was a great contributor to the community. Thanks for reloading. Gibbo
Oh Yeah - fracking funky. Fast paced and energetic - really good vocal and guitar work. Tony was very versatile and could adapt to any style. Excellent production on this. Thumbs.
Super track, a very catchy number. Production is spot on. Liking the the vocal maipulation clips, plenty here that holds interest. Nice. One popular guy...Tony.
MC, Dude! This is a banging collaboration and I am sorry I missed it before. Fantastic beat and lyric and the vocal is smoky smooth! Tony's guitar bits are really cool to hear. Nice nice reload!
Ten seconds in and I'm reaching for the headphones, some awesome goin' on!......ha ha, several listens as I just let it loop, lean back and enjoy! Excellent! Thumbs up!
One heck of a funky track...really original and.... Man-o-man packed to the rafters with talent! Loving the guitars and bass-line is popping my brain! Superb work. keith
I just can't believe that I missed this! I really love the instrumentation in the background, it slightly reminds me of Fools Gold by The Stone Roses. I also think that this track has an amazing story behind it with Tony Miller giving you advice on improving this and to find this on this site is a wonderful discovery. To me words can't describe how good Tony's performance is on this. This just has to be a Tony Miller classic. PJ
Love the super funky bass, love the vocals, love the production, it draws the listener in, and does not let go, had me bopping and tapping along, I also love that vocal sample, "we're your government, we're the good guys" (?) that's one more BRILLIANT touch to a nice production, an excellent tribute to a super talent in Tony Miller! Andrew
Glad you posted this again MC. A lot goin on but me likes and likes and likes. That Andy always has somthin to say don't he! This is perfect to my ears and has the surprise element..in other words, it's not predictable but very addicting.
Nice to see something up regarding collab with Tony. Great to hear him. Very sad about his passsing. He was a very talented person and this shows that great talent he had. Great track. Thanks for sharing again. Roger
Oh yeah, seriously funky. Wicked vocals and some really interesting and unexpected samples. Great mix.
Instead of my vocal? How very dare you?
Man this is funky! The intro reminded me of some of the original house tracks of the late 80's. The vocal is good, but i would have preferred to have just had your bassline and a mixture of samples for 3 minutes, but only because it took me right back and thats my kind of sound! Nice track.. and it gets my vote!
That is one funky bassline fella.Warm up the bottom end with eq and it will be spot on.Tony vocals are great on this. The beats are great Nexus, drum machine cool patterns and sounds adds to the funky vibe.
wow. what an orginal track. you don't find those much these days! sounds great!
Had a ball workin on this
Big improvement here, Tony vocals work really well - had to lol at the lyrics though as they are much clearer now. I would suggest some of the low end rhythm sections be done with a live guitar too to give some depth. Can leave that up to Tony or can send it through if you want. Definitely going in the right way, thumbs up!
A million times better than the original mix, in basically every way possible, not to slight original in any way by the way. Still needs a bit of sub to get it really going but it's all a learning experience isn't it, and still maintain the actual song is good enough so it's been worth all the effort :) Well worth a rate this time.
If I could come up with a bassline like that I'd be a very happy man, I love it. It dont get funkier than that, along with the wah wah and muted notes on the guitar. The last lyric is a hoot. Just couldn't help myself on clicking the rate button.
Cheers for the comments! I'm going to post some production notes in the song's thread. Don't want to clog up this section. MC2
sounds better than the original. agree with Andy on the bottom end, needs more. did I hear the F word in there?? LOL :) vocals do add value here. overall, works for me :)
Cool guitar sound by Hank. Also good vocal sound. Bass riff needs thickening up Mr Nexus/snidcyco (don't know ya proper name dude). Beats are a tad subdued but otherwise a cool sound. Playing 2nd time and i think the track's missing something of cohesion. It might be the disimilar panning on Tony's stuff versus your backing track? Might be the obscure (to me) nature of the lyric? Having said that I like the track and am on me 3rd listen. Still don't understand tony's lyric but wtf. Thumzup
