I Had To Stop
Yes this is great, I love the blues and I sure love the flow of this tune,Great Lyrics from dawn She has a Magic Pen:)
Has that Dire Straits feel to it. Which I think is very cool. Good track, keep up the good work! Jeffersun
Oh nice rolling intro with the organ and drums! Nice steady groove to the track and now oh i like your vocals in this one! Some nice backing guitars and do i hear drum machine too? lol Liking the part where you say "Stop" lol very clever stuff. Some reat harmonies and when that guitar solo come in its just amazing! Im mean im getting shivvers! lol Well i rather enjoyed that track and i dunno how long it was since i was last at your page and im sorry for taking soooo long to get here but it was really worth it for this track! :) Best of luckw ith it Mark and too for the great lyrics! marty
On first listen this sounded like a good slow rock track, until the harmony chorus hit me, that really spiced things up and stopped me doing what I was doing and grabbed my attention. The slow lead guitar is delicious, lots of expression in a melody that is simple in itself. Good organ underneath there too. The lyrics deserve a special mention, good story, very well told, and everyone can hear their own story, that's class lyrics to me. Much impressed!
that last comment wa actually from me - forgot I was logged in as Stella- lol -
chill song with cool vox - nice track Mark and Dawn:-) good arrangement and excellent performance on the guitar. thumbs up:-)
Love the deep vocals on this Mark; suits the bluesy style (actually think the harmonising is a bit harsh and interrupts the laid back flow a bit, but I can see below I'm in the minority!). Nice guitar solo and as always your bass work is really tasteful. And you just can't beat a bit of Hammond organ...
Hey Mark.. i love it when you and Dawn work together..lyrics as always are great... i think you're right.. i would class this as blues too...i think the style of bass makes it blues.. and the subject matter.. i think it's really a great song.. and your voice really siuts this style!! i love the harmonies on the 'raindrops from the sky' bit! top stuff! x
I'm not sure about the referance made to blues but i'd def say that this is one of your strongest tracks for me. (i think i feel that every time so its either you getting better or me likeing your style more, good either way i suppose!) neat and tidy drum work mark, pace of the track is great and those progressions hit home for me. Like the break on 'STOP!' very kewl. guits, bass all really tops. Nice to hear you've put time into those vox, they sound really awesome dude. i got nothing bad to say dude. when it's good, its good (; damn dude, you nailed those backing vocals by 2:00, usually its best to mix a bit of delay/reverb into them but you got everything perfectly in sync without that, which isn't an easy thing to do, i know (: Nice Nice, solo time, kewl track dude, kept me well entertained, sorry for rambling a bit...
We all enjoyed this - even the metal fans round the house were toe tapping and anticipating the stops and syncopated beats - definately full Marks (!) I think music and lyrics went really well on this one Hmmmmmm.. I just wonder if you were reading them whilst singing however - it's not that noticeable but ?? a bit more singing from deep down - it would produce a monumental feel to the excellent production. definately rated. I wish I'd had some as versatile as you in my band! - jon
Yeah, I'd call it blues. Nice job on the production with this one Mark, I really like your choice of instrumentation and the arrangement as well. Performance-wise, I particularly liked the vocals and the lead guitar, but have to admit I smiled every time that keyboard peeked through the mix! Well done, I'll rate this one.
Well done Mark & Dawn. I love blues, it's straight from the soul. The hammond always sets the scene. It all falls beautifully into place. I have a friend who is heavily into the blues and he reckons only the yanks can pull it off. I disagree, as you have demonstrated here.rated Barry
nice voc harmonies, good lay back feel to this and i would class it as blues, i am a bit of a blues nut..i hope you dont mind me saying i hear tinges of tom petty.good work
Lyrics came first, music followed, Andy but as almost always with Mark, I think the music is better than the lyric...well same thing with most of my collabs...I am very lucky and I know it. Thanks so much everyone and especially you, Mark..xx
Lovely track you two! I do think the vocals are a little in the background. The lyrics are sublime as usual Dawn! was the music written first as it is always difficult to know with your superb lyrics whether they came first. A first class piece of work from both of you. Rated Andy :)
Sort of folk vocal over a blues backtrack.....like the cut out on "stop".....nice harmonies on the mid section.....it's a very easy listen enjoyed. Kevin Mooney
Very nice song, and a great walking bass line here too. Love the lead break too. Very good performance all over this track. Production is very crisp, nice sound coming at me:) NIce lyrics too, and all round great work! rated. Mark
ooooooooooooooooo this is a LOVELY song, Mark. Beautiful and so tastefully done. Bravo!
Brilliant Mark & Dawn, great listening material, very catchy vocal line, nice panning on the backing vocals, loved the organ stabs, great stuff, well done again, rated :)
Right on Marko, This is my favorite I think. Vox, instruments, and production is top notch.R & N
Dawn's lyrics with your instruments and voice always make a fine song! Another winner to add to that big collection you two have going! Your productions always sound so on the money! Very nice collab! :)
another fine performance...vocals i think you kicked ass...really nice harmonies...and cool backing vocs...amazing bass...and very tasty guitar...one of your best mark...very cool arrangment...and a nice production to tie it all up...good work...the pair of you.... thumbs up
Cool lyrics - we can all relate to those .... :)Except I like men of course ;p lol A cool easy listen - neat guitar work and sung well. Enjoyed the harmonies and overall feel of the track :) Good structure....production is sounding crisp too - Cool !! Peace x
Started playing guitar when I was 8 years old, and then took up playing Bass when I was 16. Working with a couple of bands locally mainly playing Rock and Covers. Been writing songs for years but only recently (thanks to the advances in digital recording) started to work on recording them. I live in the South East of England.
Great song Mark the old guitar playing is coming along a treat....I will soon be out of a job......now send them out to everyone and become an international songwriter and star and I can say "I used to know that bloke" keep it up old bean, keep it up
This makes me think of day's gone by, freedom, and life's possiblities. Wow!
From the very start this song reminded me of Jethro Tull. The mood is very thick, and coupled with the lyrics does indeed bring thoughts of Sailors being taken from their families back in the day. I love how it makes me feel that I'm on a ship, and missing home.
great track Mark!!,,love the folky feel and the flute sections...makes me want to get back to the british isles, sit myself down in a pub with a nice guinness and ponder the world!! aaron bishop
I know of Mark's work with his bands and I am glad to hear him branch out with his solo work. He has a great ear for a melody and his lyrical structure is very good indeed. I shall watch this site and his progress up the cahrts with interest.
