Now this is more to my liking... Some good old Acid Jazz and real tripped out liquid funk beats. Love the female vocalist again too. Really and seriously fresh music, I've not heard anything quite like this before, great job on this!!!
This song takes you on a journey, and the accompanying vocal performance is excellent. I'm not usually fond of this kind of music, but the overall atmosphere has the effect of sending the listener into a dream like state. Rated.
ahh, some chillout tunes, just what the docter ordered in these stressful times. production on mels voice is totaly crisp and clear. .... hot performance. synthwork is mesmorizing and a tidy beat to go with it. just another one to top the pile of number 1's for you two. pure class (:
Lovely Voice. Nice Production, it does what it says on the tin. congrats onthe no.1 spot. Excellent stuff. rog
not much into the electronia or that almost outta tune atmospheric sound in the track but the trumpet is flawless, play it Ron, and now mel's nice voice comes in, drums not bad, own little beats all over the place not repetitive one bit. stunning voice and great trumpet player u featured making this a cool track congrats on placing #1. Rates all around :p Matt
Yet another quality track from the Polaris cannon :o) Excellent vocals, quality music. Really love the sort off disquiet, and unsettling tone to the music. Kudos to you again. ONAGER
Those vocals always win the day for me!
Cool as feck n rated dudes. Mel's voice is da biz
Wow- very different. I think this had the weight of a tribute as well as all the ingredients of a good piece in it's own right. Very well performed and mixed. Well done Ricky and Mel.
Very well done, love the drum beat at 00:38 like that alot Rated
very Joe Z ! lovely ambience to the piece, and vox and trumpets and beautifully countered by the drums, I really like the way the drums keeps the groove interesting without taking away anything from the vox/trumpet. another Stella classic :)
Orchestral chilled out jazz as good as melinda and ricky can get, full of brigth and a hard to define nice sesation .great one for many moments..
Yo i like this cauze the track sorta trip hop even tho it jazzy.. aint my genre cauze iz do hip hop . but got to give you big ups for dis tune, lady singing is da bomb with da flow of her vocalz. your muzic is utter cool me likes dem drums and percz . my first of the bunch of tracks i listen 2 >>> r8td!
hi there stella. first thing that comes to my mind is that sexy vocal oohh thats a mighty fine perfomance there you have lady:O) love the soulful/ jazz vocal, i also got to say that trumpet is right on the nail/ money kudoz to the t player . and the main man love your drums/ percussion, keys. and that sexy bass tops it off a treat for me has a listener. well done stella nice pro track and production . massive thumbs up:)
i listened to this a cpl of nights back, but didnt get the chance to comment. Tis a cool neat track...tho those `dissonant` sounds are hard to get used to for me. Tis a great spacy jazz sound , with some gorgeous flashes of trumpets and varoius. The rythm works, tho in some crazy, odd way...but it somehow fits the mood. The glory of this song lies in Mels vox......what a performance girl...1st class work. U are such a cool jazzy singer. Rated np
Very jazzy your trademark detuned thing going on, the beat is sounding tops scatty as hell, and another top performance from mel.
Good track,,,excellent trumpet playing, soulful vocal performance, and quality production! nice work guys! Mark
yep this is a trippy intro, really nice sax blended into what sounds like some kind of organ swirling around those bass fx - in comes Mel sounding as good as ever. unusual timing as usual :) well, i love the sax in any genre and here it is sounding very sweet with your 2 talents melding everything, it all sounds quite wonderful. great.
Very trippy indeed, great beat, always changing up. Nice sax too, solid vocals by Mel as alwayz. This might be my new fav tune by Stella P, short n sweet.
Great smooth Jazz feel to this, relaxed mood. Definatley "silky smooth" vocals, very enjoyable Peace and blessings Deborah
A very evocative piece Mel. Sultry vocals with an emotive backing........cooooool Andy :)
What mopre can I add? Nothing.........ACE
Beautiful mood music, and a stunning vocal performance from Mel. Love the way the vox and trumpet work off of each other... Nightbird is still my fave but this is pretty close. All the best with it, Jon.
What an intro...cool brass then into Mel's silky smooth voice, I like the way you have produced the track with the trumpet constantly playing throughout the track.. without it being overly loud against Mel's vocal, Ricky's great use of beats is prominent in this, top track again you two... and what a cool ending :)
great vocal performance
Spacy, trippy, I find it a bit sexy too! I like the disjointed percussion. I'm thinking it's going to kick in with a straight beat but it doesn't. I think there could be a bit of variation in the velocity of the snare though but that is a minor crit. The dissonant synth works really well and the sax is what gives it a nice sleazy feel. Oh yeah Mels vocals are great as usual! Cheers :-)
first off mels vocal performance is outstanding sits tight, beats dead on,great trumpet work gives it that hennessy feel again, the track could of been totally easy listening but its not(intentionally) ,starts off with that disturbing keyboard then settles and when you think its gonna be smooth it raises up again gives it a sort of forboding darkness lurking in the backround, its a definative part of the track for me anyways,i always say it compelling listening, good work
Disclaimer: I'm in a critical mood right now and right as the track started the dissonance caught my attention. I'm not too fond of it considering it's used throughout the whole track (the electronic background sound). Though trying to ignore that specific sound, it's pretty good so far. Definitely modern. Mel's voice is always great. I just realized you like perfect 4ths a lot Mel lol. Well the track just finished. The bits of saxophone is nice. It fits in great. Really the only thing I'd personally fix, is just those dissonant sounds in the electronic. Minor 2nds don't do much for me on their own lol. I don't mean to be too harsh or anything because I think the idea is great. Definitely laid back, but yeah. That's actually the only thing I'm criticizing about. Everything else sounds great dude. :) Glad to know that your album is going to be released soon since this is your last track, so can't wait to get my hands on one of them. :D
this is mind blowing .. like the way you shuffle the beats ... and that vocal from mel is awsome .. nice melodies.. that trumpet is well kool. the track makes me feel alive for some reason.. i think its the vox and the shuffled beats, but i could be ....ed i been on the cans lol.. great work ricky/ mel. sweet track .. rated!
this is cool... really enjoying this one guys... actually like just about every track on this project. GOOD STUFF... trippy too :-)
Lots to love, the bass weaving in out of the track is great, the languid trumpet playing, the great soulful vocal (great Melinda performance) the fractured drum pattern. Very much a jazz feel to the track. Sounds more focussed than normal. Great stuff. 13 in not unlucky this time :) Oh great end too by the way :)

Whenever Ricky Mancini slams a track into my review list, am torn in two different directons; flight or fight. In his MD-1 Project personna, his music is often abrasive, disconcerting and hard to get close to. There again in his collaborative effort with Melinda Mohn - the aforementioned Stella Polaris Project - his testosterone levels are somwhat calmed by, presumably, her calming prescence. T
Fourth time up for current MP3 Unsigned darlings Ricky Mancini (aka MD1-Project on the same site) and dulcet toned Melinda Mohn who collectively make up Stella Polaris Project. As it happens, I have been snowed under over the past month with CD's of all shapes and sizes, including Orphans, the latest from this duo. Regular readers will remember the impact this duo have made on me, gett
I bet that Ricky (Mancini) and Melinda (Mohn) known collectively as Stella Polaris Project are probably a bit stunned that, finally, I managed to spell their name right. Couldn't get it for the life of me until I came up with an ingenious (nay cunning) plan. I had the name tattooed on my childrens foreheads because I see them every day so I am not likely to forget. There again, m
Here's a question that's been rattling around my brain for a while; what has twenty fingers and two filthy minds? Well I don't know cos I guess I'm too old to be thinking about it, but I do know such an entity has a name - Stellar Polaris Project. This is the second track I've heard from this duo from MP3 Unsigned comprising of Ricky Mancini (aka MD-1 Project) and Melinda Mohn. A
Regular readers may have noticed that this month, for the first time in a long while, I have managed to snag some tracks from MP3 Unsigned. Digital Juggernaut was the first of these, Stelar Polaris the second. Stelar Polaris are an electronica due featuring Ricky Mancini (which should be a familiar name to long term readers) and Melinda Mohn. Not sure who does what but I gu
Thought this one was gonna be a tough one to review, but I listened to it a few more times and managed to get a handle on how I felt about the track so here goes. I suppose what first strikes you about this pairing is that it shouldn't really work. A deep soulful voice, mixed with challenging jazz/avant-garde chord progressions and whatever else they care to bring to the party. What's equally surp
For those that don't know, Stella Polaris is a collaboration that formed on this site between Ricky Mancini (MD-1 Project) and Melind Mohn (solo). Ricky the producer/nstrumentalist and Melinda the singer/ lyricist who also produces and arranges her own music. A very unique combination that I would have never paired together as he is predominately a trance music
The first thing that your reviewer encounters when embarking upon a review is, of course, the title. And today, dear reader I am faced with a track called “Orphans” and what strikes me immediately is how evocative that title is. So allow me please, a brief digression while I muse on this word. First off, it comes down to us from Greek (orphanos), via Latin (orphanus) and Middle English a
