The Question
nice track i like the vocals on this it stands out alot rated and all the rest ;)
Hi, Cool track. Nice mixture of sounds...dischordant in a good way...has a secret 'blues feel' to it. Strong vocals. Congrats on reaching #1! Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
Checking out all your tracks (as I'm a latecomer lol) Really strong song, reminds me over (very) early Eurythmics and This mortal coil (yes I am very old lol) Instrumentally very inspired, discordant piano riffs, dark percussion, treated guitar. Vocally as good as anyone I've heard. I see what all the fuss about and this the first track I checked out lol. Rated
Trying to catch up from the tunes I missed listening to around here. A bit late but congratulation for this hitting #1 in the charts! For a darker sound - Mel puts a bright light on it! A very interesting listen for sure! Way to go you two! :)
Well Done on the number one position guys. Barry
another listen, this is awesome! well done for No1 very deserved, if only the real charts looked like this.
Pretty experimental stuff! Not perhaps as easily accessible as some of your other stuff as it really pushes the borders back creatively, but it's a killer track that really works for me. Probably your most innovative arrangement yet Ricky and the vox are as smooth as always. And I've just seen it's a number one as well (I've been away for a bit!). Congrats you two.
Belated congrats on #1 you two! I am slowly catching up with everything.Great vocals Mel!A different angle on this one...reminded me (in places) of A Beatles track towards the end of their career something off SGT Pepper's I think anyway .....very interesting track. Rated Andy :)
Congrats Mel and Ricky!!! :D
Here at last. Nothing to add except: Awesome!
heard this before the vocs were added and thought it would be a challenge getting a vocal melody. Great blues style goin on. well done guys.
amontobinlike bases, but a bit more chaotic, damn those are some weird fx you used on vocal,... this is one atonic trippy yourney,.. and in come the horror keys! cool ending :D
Very different, which is what your music is all about Ricky, mels vocals as usual are outstanding. Nearly blew my speakers up when it first come on lol, the production is always spot on and loud. very different indeed...take a rate
I find the SPP music I've heard so far to be so different to what you normally hear, I'm honestly finding it really hard to comment on as its so far out to what I normally listen to, haha, but I can say this, it is excellently produced as usual and sounds very crisp!
like a fooked up hennessy ad,sort of layed back madness, you can't pigon hole any of your tracks which is a very good thing, great track, one of the best you've done.
Don't know what else I can say but, this is very cool, very interesting.
stella polaris strikes back! i have no idea what to class this under, its the most orignl stuff i've head in a long while, crazy! great percussion and the piano is a cherry on top. vox are choice as always mel, great performance. love those guitar string stretchs, kinda gives that tropical feel, amoung all the other mood swingers in the track! another slice of class. (:
You two are really on the edge of the known universe, musically speaking. It's very interesing and provoking. Percussion is tight and on the edge of unknown teratories as is the rest of the track. Ingenious and Rated. Barry
I don't really know what to type! ok vocal is strong and it's wonderfully mixed and performed......not something for a party.......well perhaps for some!....anyhoo the talent and skills of you two are very much in evidence on this track. Kevin Mooney
Listened to it in the afternoon...couldn't understand it. Listening now at midnight and it makes PERFECT sense! There's a lot of things going on in this one.....belongs in a Quentin Tarantino (I hope I got the spelling right?) movie!!!
Unsettling. A word which sums this song up infinitely. Rated.
I hear da blues in Mel's vocal. Superb dark song about a dark subject given the full treatment creating a great listen. Well done you two and rated.
Dark jazzy tune, this beat is great.Kinda different then your others. Love the guitars, Mels lyrics are deep, cool as always. As i said before this is gonna be great album.
Heavy matter in deed, but done according to the subject I think. It sounds as if the victim went psychotic, sadly. The music fits perfectly, very claustrophobic. Deep.
Heavy subject matter reflected in the music. Mel's voice sounds amazing. I like the harmonies alot. Overall production is as usual great, everything is clear as..Top stuff guys, Martin
Really excellent track...Love the layers ( how d'you manage it all!) the vocal's top notch and i love that section ending "...illuminating day" - very soulfull. Great track all round :)
Oooh Jazzy upright bass! I love upright bass but ive never ever used it before! lol You know what im liking this, loving the dark background with the wailing guitars and stuff! You know what this is actually head bobbing stuff! I like the shuffled drums and perc but you already know that Ricky because you have a great talent for making beats! You beatmeischter you! loSeriously tho its a nice contrast with the 'real' sounding drums and the synthetic perc and stuff! Oh wait its over aalready! Wait have to put it on again im not finished my comment! lol oOk so i dunno if you noticed but i havent mentioned the vocals yet and i wanted to hear the whole song before i commented on them so now that i have (and am currently hearing again) i must say HOW IS MEL NOT FAMOUS OR AT LEAST SIGNED WITH A VOICE LIKE THAT!!! i really mean it and i always say Mel has a great voice! Kinda like a mix between Toni Braxton and Whtney houston (With out all the warbles or is it called a vibrato when singing?) with a little of Annie Lennox! yes i mean it! It like she took all the best part of their singing styles and fused them together to create her own tonal bliss! lol Im not really one for Jazz but i have to say this track got the head bobbing and the foot tapping, maybe its because it isnt really full on Jazz but it deffs has Jazz in it that i liked! I dunno but either way it is a great track!!! Seriously wish you and Mel the best with this track Ricky and with the album! Marty
Ooo, completely dark, totally your style, but different from the other Stella Polaris tracks you two got on here. Like I mentioned to you before, it's so strange that your voice, Mel, fits this track considering it's so dark and wierd and twisted, but it's cool! I like the low bass in here and the low drums in the beat. I think that's what creates that ominous mood, because you have a good amount of things in the lower register here, but like the guitar and stuff add on to it...otherwise it wouldn't have been like this at all! >_< Well, before I start rambling more, I should quickly end this. Anyways, you two did a great job on this. I can't wait for the next Stella Polaris track! :P Rated and nominated!
Dark and atmospheric.. kool fx on vocals dude. really good piano playing melodies ect .. good arrangment on the track.. the lyrics are pure greatness.. aint there no end to your talent? seriously wish you both the best with this. its fecking brilliant imo! thumbs up ! peace out!
haha i remember this, the track i insulted! well something i would not listen too, but i analyze the structure of the track. iuno bout the title guys? wuts the question. "Y'd u let me go" ??? ok fx's galore on this one, all neatly arranged in the track. like em all but that guitar one that happens in the intro middle and very end. vocals are fitted very well into the track. damn the effects on teh vocals are just amazing. piano playing has some crazy melody lines. Percussion is well layered especially wutever that snare, sweep, chorus thing u have going on all the time. i actually like that thing a lot. short wee track. Excellent production as always. Rated for its quality and production! Matt
Oh very moody -dark- atmospheric. Love that voice. (I hope its not ricky with a vocoder) lol. messing. Stunning. I love those freaky beats and keys. Nice one. Rogue The Shed
Mel's Vocal and the vocal effects are stand out points alone..gripping and moving stuff guy's, wicked rhythmic beats and great key's....Stella are back :)
Really good mate, I like it a lot :) The piano at 2:10 sounds great & the placing in the mix is really nice too:)
Dark and disturbing - made more so by the contrasting beauty of Mel's voice - and the poignancy of the lyrics...

Whenever Ricky Mancini slams a track into my review list, am torn in two different directons; flight or fight. In his MD-1 Project personna, his music is often abrasive, disconcerting and hard to get close to. There again in his collaborative effort with Melinda Mohn - the aforementioned Stella Polaris Project - his testosterone levels are somwhat calmed by, presumably, her calming prescence. T
Fourth time up for current MP3 Unsigned darlings Ricky Mancini (aka MD1-Project on the same site) and dulcet toned Melinda Mohn who collectively make up Stella Polaris Project. As it happens, I have been snowed under over the past month with CD's of all shapes and sizes, including Orphans, the latest from this duo. Regular readers will remember the impact this duo have made on me, gett
I bet that Ricky (Mancini) and Melinda (Mohn) known collectively as Stella Polaris Project are probably a bit stunned that, finally, I managed to spell their name right. Couldn't get it for the life of me until I came up with an ingenious (nay cunning) plan. I had the name tattooed on my childrens foreheads because I see them every day so I am not likely to forget. There again, m
Here's a question that's been rattling around my brain for a while; what has twenty fingers and two filthy minds? Well I don't know cos I guess I'm too old to be thinking about it, but I do know such an entity has a name - Stellar Polaris Project. This is the second track I've heard from this duo from MP3 Unsigned comprising of Ricky Mancini (aka MD-1 Project) and Melinda Mohn. A
Regular readers may have noticed that this month, for the first time in a long while, I have managed to snag some tracks from MP3 Unsigned. Digital Juggernaut was the first of these, Stelar Polaris the second. Stelar Polaris are an electronica due featuring Ricky Mancini (which should be a familiar name to long term readers) and Melinda Mohn. Not sure who does what but I gu
Thought this one was gonna be a tough one to review, but I listened to it a few more times and managed to get a handle on how I felt about the track so here goes. I suppose what first strikes you about this pairing is that it shouldn't really work. A deep soulful voice, mixed with challenging jazz/avant-garde chord progressions and whatever else they care to bring to the party. What's equally surp
For those that don't know, Stella Polaris is a collaboration that formed on this site between Ricky Mancini (MD-1 Project) and Melind Mohn (solo). Ricky the producer/nstrumentalist and Melinda the singer/ lyricist who also produces and arranges her own music. A very unique combination that I would have never paired together as he is predominately a trance music
The first thing that your reviewer encounters when embarking upon a review is, of course, the title. And today, dear reader I am faced with a track called “Orphans” and what strikes me immediately is how evocative that title is. So allow me please, a brief digression while I muse on this word. First off, it comes down to us from Greek (orphanos), via Latin (orphanus) and Middle English a
