James, I really enjoyed listening to this, good mix of instruments, (I appreciate good keys ! ) and a new take on BSS ! Phil
I love the Steve Winwood-like keyboard playing - NO, not the solo stuff, the Traffic and Blind Faith awesome keyboards. The lyrics are very rock and roll and of course, you make them sound smooth. Cool subdued guitar, I must add. I know exactly what you mean about getting sick of hearing your own song after all of the work - but on behalf of the listener, it paid off! THUMB!!!!
Oh yeah really get the Steely Dan Vibe. You have such a talent for producing such sweet track. This is right up there dude. Lovely Stuff.
I can see your refs to Steely Dan and The Pinko Bros .. A very fine piece of work Andy but then from past experiences via your previous works always expect nowt less. love the fullness of this production . ou can hear that you've worked it until it cries. Absolutely Crackin'
Thanks for the feedback and kind words on my tune, Washed Away. I appreciate it.
You keep improving on a great thing. How'd ya do that?
Been by before...v1 -v3, but thought i 'd hear what difference a little tweak here and there might make...not disappointed...way to persevere until you are sick of listening...I could offer a +/- Db here or there advice ;) but to what end? This is sweet the way it is....wait...did I say that after v1...v2..v3...? Amazing work on this track!
Nice tune!! Like the moody feel to this. Definitely creates a cool vibe. I dig it. Thumbs up. Wait for Stars
Hi Andy, I wanted to say well done to you on climbing up the chart to No.3 this week. This deserved a place higher up in the chart and I'm glad that it's made Top 3. Got your message and it's all cool. PJ
PJ - thanks but there's a message for ya in the forum - top RH corner dude. Pls read it if ya can
Been such a busy boy this week recording the 1st part of my next album and work but I just wanted to say well done on entering the chart at No.13 last week! PJ
Very cool work Andy, for me one of ya best. The vocals are really good on this track...nice one it has a wispy dark tone and it fits fine.Love the piano work some very nice lines m8.Strings /piano are always a winner.A hint of stranglers about 5 secs here and there Pidgeman thats all i get.Enjoyed this m8 lots of very interesting sections,so well done on that cool arrangement.4.15 the strings prog with the piano are mint there. All the best...and dont let all the good comms swell your head to much lol.
This is excellent, why your not doing this full time on the road is beyond me, I hope someone somewhere listens to your music and write you a nice big fat check, you deserve it my friend. Good luck with that.
Your music is always interesting, like the changes in this song, guitarwork is very cool, maybe just twiggle a little more with the piano?
Superb tune! Sadly i missed out on any musical tutoring and therefore lack in descriptive reviewing. Having said that, this is smooth :) Voted.
The intro is powerful. Thick quality all the way. Gives me a piano bar feel. Your lyrics can be interpreted as a metaphor for a dark subject of individual sovereignty. Your vocals flow with intense emotion - anger and defiance. Instrumentation is solid. Engineering is 100%. Perfect mix and master, as usual.
This could go on forever in so many varieties and that's saying a lot. I think this may be one you of faves..but I have a few. Your attention to detail is special man. So musical and I truly don't give a crap how loud your bass is and it is but, i love it all the same.
Thanks for your comments on Noon to midnight madness.I'll take them on board.
Really like the piano melody. The vocals remind me of a great T Rex delivery. Very well produced.Rated.All the best Paul
Love this Andy. The piano at the start, and indeed through most of the song really reminds of something and I can't think what it is, certainly not Elvis. It definitely has your signature sound to it. The arrangement really works well with every instrument and part really nicely placed. Loads of excellent little touches of guitar and keys here and there and great vocal also. Rated. Craig
Of course, I was immediately drawn to this for the moody sounding music, which alone would earn you a rate from me, but the vocal and lyric, as someone said menacing, just tops this off beautifully. Best thing I can ever remember from you Andy...I'd rate twice if it let me
Nice Changes and well put together instrumentally chief. Think I can hear something distorting slightly that maybe shouldn't. This is very good as always tho....
Thumbs! ;)
I'll start with an Oakwood line, "...recognizably your style Andy!" ;) from the tinkling of the piano keys to the heavy bass on the bottom, to the pads in the back, and wispy (whiskey and fags ?) vocals..guitar bends and lines...where did you come by the lyrics? ;) A nice intimidating version... I promise not step on your toes ;) Great project, Andy!
Great song and delivery that only you can do A.
Nice chords Andy - a little bit like Brian Protheroe's pinball for those openers - totally original though. Don't recognise the classical bit at all. Nice and subtle. Laid back. Top notch as always. Rated of course.
Very cool jazzy piece of music. Something in the back is clipping to myears mate, can't quite make out what but there's a touch of distortion. Is it my set-up? Dunno. Have a listen and see if you get it too.... Is it deliberate? Gettin on me nerves now! Any way, good toon, good lyrics, should do well mate. Voted!
Apparently Elvis the pelvis had a cousin called Enis...Liking the combi of guitar and classical type piano/strings...makes it harder for those genre detectives. Also like the jazzy frills on the ivories...nice little tinkles :) Nice perc work too and production's sweet. btw don't recognise the ending...but I likes it. R8ed.
Wow, very nice Andy! To me it's got a kinda Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys flair to it which I, for one, find very appealing! Wonderful treble keys with that solid piano melody and I really liked the subtle backing vocal and that change at 1:00. Wonderful song! Easy rate, mate!
This is really good Andy. Love the brooding background with all the other stuff moving around. Keeps to it's roots through most of the song. Don't know about WIP, sounds pretty f'in good to me as is...and screw the worry about it soundin like something else. Almost everything sounds like something else if ya want to get anal about it. Just my opinion, but there it is...;-). Besides. F'em if they can't take a joke. And they can always sue you........oh yeah...that....:-/
Great arrangement, and some fine performances! Sure, the piano and the guitar sounds great, but I'm particularly likin' that bass...and that snazzy drum track. Dark, and moody vocals remind me a bit of Steely Dan, specially with this chord prog bangin away behind 'em. Like this one, a lot! Way to go, Andy.....
really like this - the word play on the title made me smile - the overall sound of the track is excellent in my opinion - the highlight is definitely the piano and the guitar - like the way the track builds and the extended instrumental ending is very appealing to my ears - not much to it lyrically (but there doesnt need to be) - like the simplicity and the directness of the words - excellent work - rated/voted/thumbs and all that
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
