Hi Buddy I love this track, the production is magic and lyrics are brilliant. Fantastic track and voted yours truly lee
G'day Dave. Love this groovy, bluesy track. Great feel and that walking bass is excellent. I'd love to add some blues harp to this. Good work, well done.
Wow this is cool jazz! Love it with all my heart especially the low voice and the walking bass
Even more of a J.J. Cale Vibe, mellow, but a little bit threatening
love the jazz sound with the walking bass...nice job. thumbs up!
Wild and crazy stuff! NIce!
Just catching this now for the first time, it's easy to see how it reached number 1. Everything about it works: the idea of basing it on classic literature, the smooth drums, mellow bass, and almost spoken-word vocals rumbling over it. Did you use some effects on the vox? In some places, your voice reverberates in my speakers seemingly even deeper than the bass. :) Nice work. Thumbs up!
In the raw, this is a delight Dave although the new version polishes the gem to its brightest sparkle. See my comments on that one if you want the elaborated version.
Not many people can pull off a blue's genre. Blues and Jazz are distant cousins of which, I am a massive fan!! But those scattered vocals and great lyrics add fire to an an already heated piece!!! Me likes, me feels the groove bruv!!! Merry Christmas my Friend!! Baz
Neat tune! You always have a very identifiable sound which is cool. I like the mellow groove of this as well. Nice job. Thumbs
Hi Dave... Nice tuned my friend.. I don't get on much anymore but I never want to miss the chance to check the unique styings of DJC and Co! What a lryic! Love how that base just move the whole thing along.. Your voice never sounded better Dave BIG THUMB!! How far are you from Austin? My folks are down there and have inved me to visit if I can get the $ and time.
Hi Thanks so much for the words on ROCK YA that was cool, We were not to sure about releasing it, but glad we did. All the best Kev n Rob ARKADE MUSIC
Great track Dave C;)
A totally wonderful Jazz-Pop track, but who cares about categories? This is simply a very clever song, brilliant lyrics which recall to my mind the best of Procol Harum, the bass line sits so perfectly with the cymbal and block...etc A great listen, an thoroughly enjoyable in every way! Cheers, Andrew
Congratulations on the No 1 DJC - nice swing/jazz feel and a vocal full of character and so very distinctive. Like the literary influence - at first i thought it might be about the female singer "Dido" who was a big act here in the UK a few years ago. Nice to learn something new from the realm of the arts. Thumbs. James
Dude.... missed your number 1...! Lovely swinging beats and bass, laid back twisted vibes - great how your vocals bounce out of the speakers. Great music as ALWAYS Mr Carter, I wish I was in that zone. Great work David, and a great number 1!!
Love the laid back feel here.
Congrats on a well-deserved Numero Uno Dave...:-)
Now this is different, and a good different! Yes, a lovely swing going on in here and I do catch that jazz feel too!! However I get a touch of the Blues also, which doubles up that swing!! If it don't have that swing, it dont mean a thing!!! This has all the swing!! Lovin those lyrics, delivered with that silky, huskey charm of a voice called DJC!! Baz ;)
Snappy little groove going down on this! I like the fact that this song makes me feel as if I'm actually listening live in a small venue with great acoustics. I'm hearing a bit of the velvet underground influence in this it seems. Very nice work! -Mike
Hi David, I wanted you a say a massive congratulations on making No.1 this week. You deserve it. Your vocals as usual are highly seductive. I'm wondering if this is about the artist Dido herself! Great to see you at the top and keep up the greatness and sexiness! ;) PJ
Easy first shot!!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by, including those who thought I might have left an "l" out of the title! Seems there's quite a few of you :)
Nice smooth track, liked the walking bass line, and can hear the Lou Reed vibe too! Nice listen, Mark
nice jazzy feel to this song a strong bass which drives this along a deep sounding vocal reminds me of kevin ayers in a way nicely done
Lovely skewed Tom Waits feel to this but with your distinctive twist. I can hear this on a David Lynch film, the passion which is destined to end in tears.. It's great to hear this treatment of a classic tale... Edgy and compelling.
Lou Reed n Doors laid down !!! maybe little delta blues...!!! Vox are deep n sultry !!! Dry jazz setting(band) puts edge on track ...Well done !!!
Very warm sounding mix :) Great vocal as always,Dave :) Loving the double bass styled bass :) The mix sounds really good, warm with nice reverb and a bass that just walks right through. very cool. Peace, Ricky
This has got a great opening with those drums and then that haunting riff in the background. Great song this one David. Rated. Regards. Mike.
Cool vocals, like your voice. It's very different in my opinion. Swing vibe with a blues feel. Nice, enjoyed the listen, rated.
Very cool track! Love the high hat in the intro, and the overall feel to the production. The vocals work so well, as does the performance overall. A very smooth, and unique sound for sure. Great job and an easy vote. Keep the faith!
Cheers david! I was just in the process of admiring "Dido"..and "Shells.." Man, wish I had a gravelly voice like that!...its like sea washing over rocks!!..swing on...great stuff!! keith
Wow...some sweet riffage here!...a classical piece of literature set to a nice walking bass and nice chords on that Yamaha guitar......what a treat to find a synopsis set to music ;) Vocals...yeah...a tad overpowering....but heck the story IS the important element ;) Well done...as only DJC can render a project as ambitious as this ;) Thumbs!...regards to the cap'n...held his own on the drums ;)
A good jazzy vibe to this song, like the bass and percussion, you've got a distinctive voice too. The vocals do overpower the backing music at times, maybe you could adjust some of the volumes eg. 2:05 and 3:22. Catchy song!
Wouldn´t have know this was you David until you started singing but recognise your great style in the lyrics. Nice bass and acoustic sound too with the percs doing a grand job. That Dave Rave is a bad boy - had to laugh... Well done and good to hear you again...
There's always something slightly left field on your page DJC :) Luv the brushed (?) hat on intro. Nice bass line and acoustic guitar...and your inimitable vocals,of course.
Hey Dave, I havnt heard one of yours for a while and enjoyed my stop by. I like the funky bass lines and that drum machine gives your work a destinctive sound. Had to chuckle at Dave Raves observation lol. Nice work dude. :) Mal.
Pretty jazzy sound on this track. If it weren't for the vocals I wouldn't have guessed it was one of your tunes. Cool vibe on this track and cool lyrics.
Enjoyed this song, acoustic guitar and bass sound great, love that bass line, rated, Gibbo
LOL!! At first I thought you'd left an 'L' out of the title!! Seriously - good swingin' boogie.
Nice swinging start dude, wasn't expecting that although the drum roll should have given it away. Nice clear vox and i like the way the same chords take ya thru all the lyrical areas.... me - I'd have used 20 by now just to get half-way in this track!! Not familiar with the story but something in the back of my mind tells me that Henry Purcell (17th c) wrote a piece of music on the same theme... gonna have to check now.... Aeneas is the dude Purcell refers to as dido's lover so i guess it's the same story. So you're using the cap'n - did you get a yam David? Mine's been boxed up since I moved in April - thought i'd be in my new house by now but not till Feb 2013 touch wood and fingers crossed. Thumzup - enjoyed the listen
The "and Company" indeed makes all the difference! I'm David Joel Carter, a songwriter from Tulsa, Oklahoma, pleased to meet ya! There's a solo piece or two of mine in here, but these are mostly collaborations with family and friends, local and around the world over the net. The "band" changes with almost every song, there's quite a bit of variety here, and some really amazing talent.
Jan. 4, 2016 - Major housecleaning going on; if there's a tune you recall but don't see anymore, and would like a copy, drop me a note, I've probably got it somewhere :)
Firstly let me state that this review is purely my opinion, which is subjective. I do not set out to ridicule or demean anyone, but intend to give a fair unbiased view. This will hopefully give the artist some food for thought for future recordings. So on to the Track The first thing I noticed while reading the description is there must be few versions of this track on the go, the reason I feel
