Junk mail Blues
Like the riff in the intro - really grabs - The guitar sings along wih the vocal which always works for me - like the change of mood when it goes all Yesish or Floydian - the angry lyrics are great - enjoyed.
Like the timber section, it works for me. Floyd harmonies definitely - bring em forward a touch?
Great riff, cool sound on the organ! I hear a little Deep Purple in this, but very original anyway!
Finally got round to listening :).. Love the vocals/lyrics and bass. Then i would wouldn't I !!.. I'm not a purple fan... over enthusuiatic band member drowned me years ago ! so not my fav style. Nice production too. Rob
great guitar, bad language? ... i want more! oh nevermind ... there it is. Ok i am satisfied that it has enough swearing in it. (: Some great bass and guitar rifftage going on. drums are well produced. actaully great production overall ... as usual.
Growing up in the late 60's and 70's I really appreciate this kind of Rock. Still unique though which is a good thing. Rated.
Great rock sound and deffo circa 70's but it rocks..your usual top notch production and vocally very hooky, might dust off me guitar :) the mid break is nicely done and works for me...but i like the unexpected!..anyways.. very nicely done Mr Oakwood :)
Great sounds pumping out. Top performance on all instruments and vocals. Some great lyric moments! ha! I dig the changes too. Very dreamy.
Nice tune James, cool old skool rock sound.Good vocals and i like the change up around 2 min. Niceone, rated
Punchy, well recorded and sentiments that i'm sure many would agree with but I can't say i'm that fond of cursing in songs (as you may expect!)Very capable musician tho.
Now where have I heard that riff before? Have you mixed a hammond organ in with the guitar, it sounds very distinctive like that. I love the the dramatic part between the verses. I also like the Floydian harmonies during the bridge, my favourite part of the song. The lead guitar solo section isn't so hot, it sounds way out of tune, although the arrangement is well though out. Although deeply rooted in the past, this song could only have been written in more recent times, such a waste of wood! Anyway I rated for ya ;)
great lyrics! yes there is a deep purple influence for sure. I dont think the change works at 2.20 personally, it serves no purpose and the timing change is un natural. Otherwise a pretty good track that man!
Hi, Very rocky and Deep Purpley...great guitar playin' and really like the organ in the background...love the creative and straight in-your-face lyrics - I can totally relate! Regarding the transitions comment I agree with it ...transitions seem a bit too rigid (I don't have the timer on mine so can't tell you where exactly). Great vox to go perfectly with the elevated lyrics. Rated. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
Hehehe... nice one Andy, that's a killer lyric, mate. Some absolutely stunning wandering bass going on throughout this... If I'm being super critical one or two of the transitions could use a bit of smoothing over, especially the return to the main theme at 2:50 seemed a tad abrupt, but all in all a very very good start to 2008! Nice one.
This one's moving good now...
Hot track here Andy, I love that "Timber" and your guitar work is perfect,I'd say you have a winner here. Vin
Exxellent rock ways with the guitar and bass it upliftes me in moments not much likely for me to happen congrats!!rated
Funnily enough I was just listening to Europe's 'greatest hits'!! And so my ears are tuned for some rocking sounds. Yes, I can hear Purple which is no bad thing at all. Organ is great too, A class track m8.
Hey Andy... Just had a listen... nice grindy organ and crunch on the first section... has that purple feel to it or ronnie james dio kinda sound.... i rather like that middle section change... nice keyboard work and guitars of course... vox sit alittle back in the mix maybe... but I'm guilty of that on every track i do so lol.... nice track... gets a rate!
Very Deep Purple/Rainbow on 1st impression, with that heavy riff, and organ! Love the break into the verse, nice touch:) Dig the pumping bass too,,sits in there very nicely indeed! Nice time change at 2.30 too, gives it all a different direction. I got a 'Rush' vibe on the solo section, very Lifeson'!(compliment) THis is pretty damn perfect id say. Cant find anything to pick faults on! All sounds great, and it really ROcks! Take my rate! superb! Mark
Hi Andy! I really enjoyed this track a lot with very clever lyrics for the message to which EVERYONE relates to.I felt a Who influence and the guitar riffs were infectious.I loved the "Timber" ( very apt!). All in all a great track I certainly would be proud of. Rated easily but sorry no noms left!. Take Care Andy :)
deffo smoke on the water, But i also got cat scratch fever from it... Great memories, better song... well done man..
Hi James, Likin your sound, U'd never match it up with your picture!!!Love the catchy guitar chord riff (39 secs in). What I especially like about this track is the fact that it's quite dark, yet catchy.
Smashing track. Bass sounds great, not bad for £50. I can see where the Smoke on the Water comments come from :P but it sounds a whole lot better.
Yeah, so there is the slight smoke on the water sound thingy only this is about 100 times better in my opinion. What really caught my attention was the bass. It all sounds very simple, but if you tune into just the bass and the vox, it had a very nice blend to it. A great job on showing your production and writing ability. Takes a rate from me.
Hey there Brother Andy, old school rock with "tude". Production rocks too bro. Not gonna hang no soundslike tags on it. Nice gitrs goin on also. Keep the tunes comin,
Now if i could learn to type. I was trying to say that I’ve been known to drop the F-bomb now and again. eric
I too hear the Deep Purple influence and I love it. I also have to know to drop that f-bomb now and again. Great production here. Your voice is perfect for this! take a rate Great job my friend Eric bad love junkie
Nice track man, agree with the comments below re the Floyd meets Deep Purple thing - kind of a Pink Purple influence! Like the changes and love the keys, very retro with a modern edge production. Like those lead lines too James, nicely worked in. Lyrics are outrageous! Vocals are cool, great mix. Real wierd sol break at around 2.40 - very unexpected but just what the track needed, followed then by the arena gutiar god section:-) Like this track James, well worth a vote!
it def has a riff like smoke on the water but i guess you know that !! nice sounds all the way through, vocal tones sound good over background. good work
Gotta love and have good laugh at the lyrics. Ans all so superbly stiched togetherwith a cracking musical workout on all fronts. I definitely will be having me some of this. Let me hear you yell SMOKE.. now wheres the water?
Hey Andy...hows things man. Crackin track goin on m8....lyrical provoking..(into a fight with the delivery boy lol). Great gtrs man....amazing power there. Good to see ur still bangin em out man!. Have a rate mate best, mick
Love the heavy smokey water Keys sound great lyrics so damn true! Excellent guitar and superb strong vocal,A definate rate from me !
Awesome lyrics Andy. Poignant and entertaining. I listened to this with a smile on my face (even though it's an angry sign). I guess I relate. Guitar solo is nice. All kinds of attitude on this. Pretty catchy as well. Nice work!
Haha.. awesome song, dude. Really good production, and love the phasey/flangey fx on the vocals. Definitely hit the nail of that weighty 70s groove squarely on the head! The section 2.28 - 2.49 is wicked... reminiscent of the Ozrics and wonderfully recorded. Really great feel. Rated!
I like this andy, there's been many times we can all feel like that! You certainly let your thoughts out with this track. The lyrics enjoyed. Anyways, like the production on this too, and your vocals seem fine to me, but no doubt through your worthy production skills, you can lift the vocals further. I like the guitar playing at bridge and near end. Rated from me. Sonya Stewart.
I love it! Cool chords. Fun guitar and love the 'tude. Someone needs to write a movie around this song. WOW! Great shift. Love the sound. I'm liking the harmony. Gets my rate!
Go and stand in the corner!!! And put on the hat...go on, go on!!! LOL great lyric...vox were still too quiet for me but I thank you for lyric sheet which made it all crystal clear. Agree about the whole issue of junk mail and I am pretty sure the Death to timber thing was sarcasm Tom...but hey Death to Junk Mailers yay!!!
Gday Andy, can only agree with all thats before me. Loved the lyrics, absolutely spot on and they brought a wry smile to the face. For some reason I kept seeing Weird Al Yankovic doing a DP act and really sticking it to the junk mail distributors.Good one mate.
Great track andu - production is rock solid (no pun intended). The keys are spot on and I agree with Rocky's comments about the change. You've got a great tone to that guitar.
Deep Purple and Rainbow's lawyers will be in touch soon Andy lol. Seriously though, nice riffs in this. Original subject matter. Very well put together and quite catchy. Rated. Craig
maybe some more compression on the vox. cool lyrics. but...death to the trees? come on, have a heart for the trees! 70's prog rock style, especially the riff sounds very much like from this era. i also had smoke on the water in mind. junk mail, yes, i can relate, but spam mail is even worse. original track.
192kbps version up with vox more prominant and a bit of eq work done on top-end. Maybe could lift the vox a tad more?
Very well put together.I love the way it builds up in the intro. The changes are pretty nice.I found the voice a bit muffled or rather under mixed. But in general this a real good track...
Well...we knew this was gonna happen...but so what...Still a great rocker no matter what! DP and SOTW hopefully will be too early for alot of these youngin's to remember! Could just blow right by them ;) Nice structure and polished production as usual! Enjoyed this Andy!
sounds a hell of a lot like smoke on the water to me...cool vocals... mr none originality strikes again :P vocals have the floyd feel to them...no getting away from that tho :) over all another good performance...weird change from the purple to the floyd 2:20ish nice axe work from that section...enjoyable track andy thumbs up
Great hook riff, reminded me a little of The Who, which was cool, guitars sounds brilliant throughout track, always rated your voice as well, bit more edgy on this, always worry with message songs they are gonna be a bit up there own .... but you pull this off with aplomb and more than a little humour. Had no mixing issues with the track, but never do with you lol, I'd call it an unqualified success :) Liked the track from it's humble instrumental beginnings, you've worked it up a treat well done, rated :)
Forgot to mention I love the organ sound in the intro. And I also forgot to mention this has an american rock feel to it, which is good. Barry
Classic heavy rock here bud of which I will admit to be a secret fan of bud. Not skilled enough to comment technically but it got my head nodding. The guitar work is fabulous as is the whole track bud. Rated. Barry
Deep and purpley, that's for sure! But if you wanna be a rock god, ya gotta make love to that mike...yeah, bring the vocals up a bit. Like the sound, huge and anthem-like, guits remind me of guitarist for Queen, Brian May was it? Production first rate, no surprise there. Well done! '08 is starting off great!
VERSION WITH LYRIC UP.
old skool....I love it....this is my kind of music....you made my day....rated once. rated twice and three, jajajaja.
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
