Men Of Steel
Just top quality as usual love the harmonies too. I was wondering if it's going to let me type S...horpe in here and it's good news for those guys - let's hope the others can be saved too.
I used to be able to see the Redcar plant from Seaton Carew when I stayed there for a few months contracting. Great song, tons of soul, catchy as hell. Cheers.
solidarity with the steel workers who's jobs are on the line at the moment I'm with you mate a great song
Great to hear someone speaking up for North East industry, and in such a groovy melodic way.
Love this tune Kallen, It got me straight away, I listened a few times :-)
Tried several times to add comments to this wonderful track weaving a moving and compelling story...bottom line this is a first class piece of work
Loved this one. The folk melody blends very well with the poetic message. Felt the pain and the hope... "We will not die..we`re the men of steel".. right?
Second listen. Super stuff.
Great track K. High 5!!
Taking a DL it's that good ! thanks - Phil
Love this track heard it before in another place I think .... Got to agree with the sentiment I hear, but the management ooooh no... I worked for a while at a strategy level with British Steel a good few years ago - Strategy and British Steel - now that was a contradiction in terms, the men who put BS in Steel. Then Caparo - Then Tata now what ..... Think I'll sell me Jag and buy an MG -ahh no !.... Like the hammer - Phil
You and that hammer :) Had to come back by for another listen, that was just a brilliant idea for percussion on this tune. Vocals sound so good, those backing vocals make me green with envy. Very pleasant tone on the guitars, and love that bass, makes quite an entrance. Listening a third time and concentrating on it, appreciating it all the more...these are some great performances and a damned good mix. I'd vote again if I could.
As the UK government sits back and dithers, another community is on the brink of collapse. If only all industry had been banks, all would be well and we wouldn't have to import all the ... from China. Brilliant song, easy rate. Gibbo
A very topical modern Folk song, Great lyrics.
labour intensive industries moved on...the North of England is only one dot in the ever growing connecting of lowering industrial corporate costs while creating a human catastrophe...every town built around resource extraction is feeling pain...what a haunting tune (including the shovel banging...you dirty old git :) in this tale of woe...so spit and spew those vocals...righteous indignation emblazoned...good on ya mate for this one!
Awesome as ever! :)
good concept on a serious subject
quite poppy this and folky.
i liked that quirky beginning.
good to see some songs like this
Yeah Buddy the same thing across the pond, They send in the consultants and tell you everything is fine, Then sure as the sun shines, job cuts everywhere.
This is a great song and thanks for the story, read every word , excellent!
Once Britten was Great, we stood strong in 2 world wars. We where a power in the world only to see our greatness sold to the highest bidder, is there any British big companies left. In a few years when the steel industry has gone and somebody makes a documentary about it, Lets hope they use this song. Well Done
good track well laid out... great lyrics
So pleased you posted this one Keith as it is so current. Maybe a different plant but the message is the same. There is something really wrong when you can import something so big and heavy cheaper than it can be produced at home. All the rest of the world seems to get subsidies. Now you have got us all started.!! Very well done, you deliver in style. L&B
Hello Keith. First, thank you for the thoughtful review on "Brooklyn's Lullaby".
Men of Steel reminds me of of Gary IN where I grew up, both the ugliness of the mills and the ugliness of the poverty as the mills closed down. My heritage also.
HI Keith, I think everyone can feel the power of this song, it is crazy what is happening in the world today, is it a conspiracy, or just the political short-term hi-jinks, of mediocre bureaucrats?
Anyhow this is such a well produced song, played, sung with passion, and compassion, an easy vote for song of the week from me mate!
I had the time, and I was laughin' my ass off at the mess you made and your missus' reaction! Stuff like that goes on in our house too; she's an artist and whatever that creative spirit requires happens. This is such a great song, excellent lyrics and vocals, and I'm becoming a huge fan of what you do with those guitars.
I really like the way you write and perform your music. No matter the subject matter and you have a lot on your mind. I relate as a person who has seen half of Pennsylvania fall because of out sourcing everything, especially the steel mills. Corps don't see the long term anymore just the immediate profit at the cost of everyone else.
Hi Keith. I worked in the steel industry in Staffordshire many years ago. I watched the gov nationalise the whole shebang then gradually close most of it down. Biggest cluster-f**k since the charge of the Light Brigade. Anyhow, this is a great song, m8 and would be perfect for a documentary on the sad tale of the industry in Britain. (Similar things have happened down here too, BTW with foreign investors owning half of Australia)

Well... Ive been plonking away on me old guitar it seems, for the last ten thousand years...just to amuse meself more than anything else...written/recorded many hundreds of tunes in various states of quality...from recordings made on shiny magnetic tape stuff, powered by magic elastic band thingys...yup...I have the technology of a wind up clockwork toy!
This is the only place I can be honest...and...maybe get away with it! ... My mission: To complete an album called: "Songs The 70's Missed" Ha!
