Official Relaunch Competition!
Amadeus Amadeus is offline 17-08-2010, 17:27 PM

We are delighted to announce that Camel Audio are sponsoring the relaunch of MP3Unsigned.com with an exciting competition!

Who Can Enter:
This competition is open to all members of the MP3Unsigned community. If you aren't yet a member you can set up an account for free HERE.

Entry Requirement:
All entries must include sounds created using Camel Audio's "Planet Earth" software that is available in their unique "Pay What You Want" offer. You can pay whatever you want for the software anything from €1 to €100 plus you get a free copy of the Alchemy Player bundled (includes 370MB sound library). Besides being able to pay what you want for genuinely excellent quality software you can also allocate whatever proportion of the purchase prize towards Friends of the Earth charity. So please, try to be generous!

Believe me when I tell you, both the Planet Earth software and the Alchemy Player are top quality pieces of software. Regardless of whether you enter the competition or not you should certainly take a look at this deal. Many of our users have already downloaded it and will attest to the quality.

Now down to the competition itself.

The Rules:
  • All entries must be original material only
  • You must be the owner/creator of the track you enter
  • All entries must use elements of the Alchemy Player and Planet Earth sound library (you can use other software and live instruments if you wish)
  • All entries must reference any use of Camel Audio software
  • The competition is open to any genre (trance, techno, DnB, experimental, rock, metal, ambient etc)
  • Entries can be at any tempo and on any theme once they utilise elements of Camel Audios' Planet Earth and Alchemy Player
  • Collabs are allowed but it's up to you how you want to split any prizes!
  • HINT: If you're running low on inspiration or time you could always work these soundbanks into one of your older tracks!

Time frame:
Entry to the competition will be open until 30th September at midnight GMT

Voting etc:
The winner and runners up will be decided by public vote with the final say from Camel Audio.

How to Enter:
Details on how to upload your entry will be posted in the coming days.

Alchemy Player PLUS 2 Soundbanks of your choice

"Of all the plugins I have on my recently-upgraded workstation, CamelPhat and CamelSpace are the most frequently used."
Danny Elfmann

Alchemy provides more scope, flexibility and synthesis options than I've ever seen in any soft synth, yet you never feel you've entered a boffin's lair. This is design at its cleverest! ... Alchemy is a deceptively deep synth, yet its engine remains incredibly easy-to-use, and it's also excellent value for money."
Sound on Sound

"If you love programming amazing sounds - or even just playing them - don't miss Alchemy. It immediately jumped to the top of my short list of stunning, next-generation software instruments. ... Huge factory sound set. Incredibly deep programming. Massive realtime modulation possibilities. "
Key Buy Award - Keyboard

"Camelspace is one of the first effects I reach for when I'm looking to trip a sound out. It's very easy to use and the sequenced gating is just a huge timesaver. I'm using Camelspace extensively on my current tour and I also used it in a piece for Mission Impossible 3 with Tom Cruise."
Thomas Dolby

Here are some handy links from Camel Audio:

Alchemy Player FAQ

Came Audio Support Forum

Also, the recommended spec for Camel Audio software is as follows:

PC XP/Vista/Windows 7, 2 GHz Pentium, 1 GB RAM, 400 MB disk space, VST host.
Mac OSX 10.4.9, 2 GHz Intel or G5, 1 GB RAM, 410 MB disk space, Audio Units or VST host.

It will probably run on slower systems but if you start loading on lots of other VST's then things might start stuttering. Some work arounds include bouncing isolated tracks down pre mix and importing as wav etc. If you are running a DAW already then your computer should have enough power.

Default Alchemy deal

Just paid my charity dues and got the download. I did so based on the preview samples on the CA website. I have to say I'm rather impressed. I'd say Planet Earth is aimed primarily at Ambient musicians but for the price of a round of drinks (or as little as 1 Euro if you have no conscience) its worthwhile. As to the question of CPU overhead, I'm afraid me and my Quad Core i5 Mac with 4 Gb of RAM wouldn't know about that - still crap at composing music tho!

Yours aye Captain Smug

Amadeus I think your REASON users should be aware that in order to use Alchemy and therefore enter the competition they firstly need a DAW that accepts VST's as its not designed to run as a standalone - I never realised that when I downloaded it so I`m not able to enter after all - Not the end of the world apart from paying a fiver for something at the moment I cannot use - But others should be aware!

Reason is a closed system Ant, it doesn't work with any plug-ins, pretty much common knowledge as it's pretty much the whole point of the program, being self contained. The only things you can buy for reason are 'refills' which are packs which use the reason instruments. You do have a few options however, you could download Reaper (which is a free DAW) and still write the bulk of the track in Reason and use it's Rewire function to connect to Reaper and add a couple of Alchemy tracks in that.
