Very nice! Great song, and fine performances all round. Particularly impressed with that drummer and the skillful way you guys manage to record him. Yeah,I like this...rated!

Some say that their drummer once fell out with a purple jelly baby, and that Nostradamus counted himself as a fan.All we know is...they're called The Duelling Winos!Legend has it that they play proper tunes. They don't do screaming or make strange noises.They don't do big words (mainly coz none of them own a Thesaurus) to describe what they are. The music speaks for itself. They like writing in different styles, because it stops songs sounding like one long epic drone.Most of all, they love to engage with a crowd, because they know there is nothing more soul destroying than watching a band that's as exciting as waiting in a queue at the post office. They are not one of those bands. They're from Glasgow.
The Duelling Winos are:
Sandy Clarke: Lead Vocals; Eric McGowan: Guitar/Bass/Vocals; Greg Smith: Drums; Gordon Kirkland: Guitar/Bass/Vocals;

So Tedd-Z suggests that I give the Duelling Winos from the West Coast of Scotland a review. Being from the West Coast of Scotland myself, I felt it was only fair. So, Bullet and Bombs got the nod.I've probably been a bit harsh on the marking for this, considering that it was a live recording by a three piece band, but I wanted to give myself some headroom for the big production that's been p
Those who know me well know the queasy face I adopt when faced with folk. It has never been a style I went for even when I was young and deluded all them beards and serious s***, no ta. I have, however, an abiding love for true folk music, and often go out of my way to grab chunks of it. The ethnic kind, ya know. There was more of a trace of that in Chris Rea (December 2006
Next we have a track from The Duelling Winos called Help The Saged. Been sitting on this review for a few days as it has been total torture to write, how the hell do I review something like this, how do you convey what you like about a track and try to be constructive and in doing so ruin what you loved about the track in the first place. So I will intentionally break every review rule and just go
Although I've read some of the postings by the Duelling Winos on MP3 Unsigned, I had yet - until this moment - to hear any music from these 'acoustic chancers from Ayrshire'. That's in Scotland, before ye ask. OK well the first order of priority is to figure out just how Chris Rea could be the inspiration for anything other than a good bowel voiding is quite beyond me. Now I know the b
Dear Deidrie by Duelling Winos I've been lured back into the world of the Duelling Winos, for my sins. I think I may have inadvertantly drawn up a contract with the Devil himself by answering these review requests. At least the Devil's a Hell of a lot funnier than other folks though, so I'm happy enough with it. I'll deal with the eternal damnation when it comes (hopefully after at least anothe
I am trying to contain my excitement about this song and give a balanced review so I'll start with the music... Structurally -- and bearing in mind that Duelling Winos are humourists in the best possible style -- they could not have bettered this structure I felt. They needed the breaks for the point to hit home now and then. Musically, I adore the Jamaican sound (Bob Marley would have approved
Apart from a little giggle at the outset, I was fooled into thinking this a mildy funny very easy to listen to pleasant but quirky song about chicken soup, but of course I was wrong. I was so wrong... and half way through this political leader (winnie?) narrator comes in and tells us how to serve this tasty treat....with all the tongue-in-cheek solemnity that we are used to from the lads. Liste
Wonderful vocal, sweet guitar and a very simple little melody, and an able harmonisation --- this song does not compromise on simplicity in the music department. There is no pretension --- the music is simply there to frame to words. Lyrically, it is another matter entirely....no compromise. As always, DW's know no fear when it comes to their cutting satire. And because of their gentle vocals,
Firstly, it is important to note that I am a huge fan of these lads who have a wonderfully dry sense of humour, which brings Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in particular and the Cambridge Reviews in general to mind. They are intelligent and able to feel comfortable enough to show the humour in all subjects. In this one, it is the turn of the male who has a thing for big bosomed ladies yet falls
Duelling Winos obviously have a sense of humor. They are a funny band that starts with their band name. The track "Flat Chested Blues" falls right into that theme of humor. Throughout the track you find yourself smiling. The thing that stuff out negativly is that i could hear some distortion on the recording because the levels were so loud. it possibly could be my speakers
Chicken Soup By Duelling Winos. This is simply brilliant. Often, comedy music is crass or overblown. Sometimes it's funny for it, like the output from Tenacious D. It's either that or it's childish and immature or annoying and grating. You know the type of music I mean. But! Here we have Duelling Winos, sitting comfortably, drunk (as usual, it seems), way off from the lot of 'em in their own w
Oh now this is a good track, not becuase of any type of musical genius i may add but becuase its so happy and quite frankly funny, i mean any song relating their girlfriend to chicken soup has to be right up there in the loony ratings, so where to begin with such a song? well i was lost where to begin on this review so i asked my friend on msn... ill paste the reply "it's mad..." "i love it"
