OMG What a lush intro strings piano that start was grand mate really class.Clever work mate has elements of Blur vocal later on.Yeah love that intro Andy .Will msg you.
Great Opening Andy , Loving that . Then it goes in to that Blues Feel , you are very Creative and you always produce great sounding tracks , and the Talent always shows with great songs like this ... well done for 2nd slot :)
Is that you really playing the guitar???? Some kwl notes dude! The beginning reminds me of 'the waterfall' and the end of that bloody fridge of yours LOL!!!!! In your own unique style you turn one style into a completely different one, and take the listener to a totally different place, diverse and interesting. In all fairness, one never really knows where your songs are going to take them. Thumbs up from me.
Brilliant, creative mind... you have done it again with your musical talents! Much enjoyed listening~ and thanks for sharing. =Bravo=
James this great. What a beautiful piece of music. Love how it melts into jazz territory. Heartfelt lyrics really hit home. Great job! Eric
Hey Andy, this fabulous work! Like AndyF, I loved the intro, beautiful! Understandably a difficult challenge and I salute both you for your effort and your son for his service no matter the politics. Very touching dude! Thumbs!
Beautiful intro Andy am envious! it has all the hallmarks of a superb soundtrack to me. The vocals are sublime and you should be really proud of this one my friend, Gets my vote! Take care Andy :)
This track is really cool! I really like the intro with the strings, synth and piano. Good job transitioning into the more "bluesy" section at 1:14. You did a nice job with showing us your feelings on this subject with the overall feel of the song, as well as the great lyrics. Thumbs!
a very personal subject, maybe as a musician being able to get this out helps in some way. the arrangement shows different emotions, the sorta thing I like in songs. well thought and good playing, a cinematic listen
I wonder what one has to be thinking to create a complex arrangement of really cool sounds tonally while matching those sounds in such wonderful timing as you always seem to do with all your music! Very nice song as always Andy. I dig the hints of "Floyd" in the structure and also in that mean sounding guitar that pops in here and there to just say hello and push this song over the top! The intro is perfect for this as it sets you up for that old "bait and switch" come minute fourteen! Enjoyed this -Mike
Thanks for the constructive feedback on "Orchid" - most appreciated. Now on to your latest. Nice long build up with the piano and strings - dramatic and technically adept (love the tinkling piano flourishes). I read your artist comments which gives the lyrics and subject matter a very emotional and a very moving slant which runs over into the vocal performance. Its like a letter to your son but expressed musically. Some great guitar work to be heard. Really enjoyed the sombre bluesy vibe.I can never find anything to fault production wise - you know your stuff and it shows. A well constructed song mate. Thumbs.
Sorry, thank you for the download.
This is not just good... its awesome. I can hear from the lyrics that you and your son are friends. I have that with my son and two daughters. I cant imagine what you're going through but i can get a pretty good idea from this song. When John comes home, go have a beer and say Cheers from me. Oh... let him hear this song. Brilliant work Andy. Gibbo
Andy, I would have had tears running down my face, trying to put this together must have been a chore for you, Admire the love for your son, God Bless your son and prayers for safe return home to you and your family. I grabbed two downloads 1 by mistake , good now I have 2. You said it it's not easy. Great song here everyone, should listen..
Super-awesome grand intro - very dramatic. I dig how it enters into a cool, jazzy/blues rock landscape. Great heartfelt, personal lyrics. The sound on this is excellent from start to finish - you are an asskicker extraordinaire!
Fine string intro my friend and gorgeous piana tinkering. Then a change to a style im more familar with you doing. Excellent production as allways.
A stunner Mr A. Beautiful sway of strings at into leading into your cleaver arranging skills as well production and your prowess at many instruments my talented friend. Smoky vocals I look for are here and glues. Nice work.
Hey Andy, this is a classy smooth little song. The refer is a wonderful idea. who would thought? Dig the lyrics too. The demons are out to get us all, whatever the cause. Agree with Craig, the end doesn't quite do it for me but hey, it probably has meaning to you so f me and the horse I rode in on.....;-)
Good song, nice arrangement and production. Very Oakwood-y. I agree with Mart, the vox just need brightening up a touch but other than that the mix is fine. If I were to be critical (ie Tony Miller will tell you) the fade out is a bit of a cop out. Nevertheless, enjoyed it. Rated, Craig.
Liked the discomforting rumble at the start...reminded me of engines from a jet to.... orchestration...bespeaks depth of the musings to follow....yeah the transition to rock setup is smooth...bass rounds out the bottom nicely....moves this along...drums have a bit of liveliness...perfect, I think...yeah, vocal lo-mid a little lift would help, but maybe not eq issue (position from mic? seems to come in and out a bit...just trying to figure out what I hear...not a consistent eq issue I think...not sure)...that aside, the topic, the lyrics .."It's not easy"...says so much...OK now that is one listen and back around...way too much to observe...the opening strikes me...well crafted and "dark" ..."ominous"...well done...into the rock/blues..piano tinkles set it up, brass stabs and string sustains allow for the transition...drums and brass...piano..nice movement to the a tempo part...guitar riffs punctuate the disquieting topic to follow (semi-tones down)...long-distance parenting...worries...captured so well...yeah, your voice is well-suited to this expression of worry and concern. Great way to get out all those feelings...hope you said all that you sing ...heck, I know you did ;) Thumbs!
Lush strings and piano work in the intro dude. Nice transition into the bluesy type section.Trademark ivory tinkles lol...nice. Listening through old hi fi speakers, the vox don't sound too loud to me,but the lower mid may need taming...dunno,like I say,am on a crap setup. Subject matter aside...an enjoyable listen m8.
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
