The Chair (2014 remix)
What a powerful sound, glad I caught up with this one, I'm loving those great riffs and the stunning keyboards, great bridge after 1:59 sec in, really nice brass harmony parts, this is definitely Prog-Rock heaven! Cheers, Andrew
Stunning! A massive sound with those angry, Huffin' and puffin' ..chugging guitars...that 'change-over' at 3 min is class...then f**k, Wow! ...we're off again...electrifying!! keith
You are a very passionate Hobbyist – Hobby away forever, mate - Sounds Great!
Now this surprised me...had to scroll up and make sure I was listening to an Oakwood track. Ultra-cool, with a hell of a story to go along with it. Quite a composition; like Dan, I'm accustomed to hearing a song out of you though. C'mon, slacker, "be" the chair, ha ha! Enjoyed several listens, gets my vote
Ha, what an Oakwood classic! Sounding just absolutely amazing as was the first time I heard it (Nov 2008) and love the story background which fits. Didn't even know what a DAW was back then according to my comments as "Beluga". Irony is, I was using one by then (shakes head). Anyway, brilliant everything on this, just missing your voice which wasn't meant for this I guess. Certainly not needed given you would have been frying at the time..(in an electric chair that is...)....
WTF? How did I miss this one? This is really cool Andy, one of your best IMO. It works fine as an instrumental, vocals would completely change the feel. Lovely that keyboard solo, sounds like it was written for guitar but sounds really great through that tone. Adding this one to my new 'Listening To' playlist. Some lead guitar work in places would really add to it I reckon, maybe a solo and then a few smaller fills and whammy bar work with some effects thrown on. Rated all the way!
I've never heard this piece....damn dude it is epic!!!!!!!!!! nommed
Story behind the music... most interesting, Andy! Good luck getting Stephen King to write the book, too! Enjoyed your masterpiece!
Love the mix of guitar and electronica. This track maintains motion thoughout.Very suspenseful & thrilling. I agree with those below that this would be a "killer" soundtrack. Added you to my rec list (sorry I hadn't noticed I had not added you before!)
Nice combination of rock and electronica, definitely has a retro feel with the synth sounds.Gr8 production
I like this one! I wanted to hear a bit more in the way of song dynamics. Oh wait, they've started, I've just reached the quieter part when the guitar drops out and the deep pad fills in. Well it was an alright fill on the twiddly synth but would have been better shoving it along a chord or two. Hey folks calm down I'm just trying to raise the bar coz I know James can improve this song.
Grew up with 4 older brothers who were into this kinda sound....ah, me halcion youth. Incidently, I had an electric deckchair once but twas tricky to use in the rain. Bzzzzzzzzz! Ta for the comm/rate sire and S. Yorks is still here.
Hi James Nice driv'in track.Powerfull!I spot listened to several of your other tracks and all are quality.Production is great on all I listened to.Masterfull use of effects, too. You definetly got it togather.Have a Merry Christmas.
Great Stuff .... reminds me of " Yes" ....
WOW !this reminds me of ELP,s Brain Salad surgery very intricate and I really love the driving bass and the very interesting title. Good luck with this one!
A man of many talents and styles. This is perfect example of someone who just loves music no matter what genera and I am someone who can appreciate the work that goes into a song like this. Great job EZ Rate Eric
Love this! Love all the sounds swirling around my head! Cool mixture. Yep I enjoyed this. Your story sent my imagination soaring! I am very intrigued where you are going with this new genre my friend. Has this been in the charts already as I have been away so long. I am sure if it has twas a high charter! Anyways very cool!:)
Cracking.......missed it last week, sorry. Crap work week
All said here....excellent!! Dirk
Oh Dude Ouch no really Ouch, I keep getting whacked by that shock. Great Storyline! Great Vibe! It's Electric! I Dig big time! Bro V
Actually I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to comment on dawson rhapsody. I agree with your assessment. I tried to email you instead, but the window popped. thierry
I really like the dark atmosphere you've created here, guitars go well with the fx. Think the break at 2:50 could be done different for better inpact, maybe strip it down to that cool bass and guitar instead. Enjoyed the listen, and like I said really good atmosphere
some cool elements and synergy, organic vs industrial. like the way its all arranged over one chord so the tension can build. i felt the drums were a little weak in the second part but the track idea is essentially superb.
I like the almost spacey atmosphere in the beginning. Maybe it's the space where all those souls go when they enter the chairrrrrr? Very nice. Then we kick the guitar in. That sounds awesome. Nice chuggy sound. As the song progresses I get a very early 80's electronic moogy synth sensation in my body. It sounds fantastic. I love this type of sound. Then it changes into a synth solo break. Sort of speak. I very much enjoy the fast notes and the high pitches that come out of it and then when the notes start coming faster and slow down and that metal scraping noise comes in and alternates with the radio noise. Then it ends. Wow, Andy. That sounded awesome! I felt like I was definitely in a place where angry souls could definitely be around me. It sounded like I was inside some sort of place. It really did. You actually made it sound like I was inside the chair. That is impressive! Summing things up. The production sound is top notch, man. And I couldn't find anything wrong with the interesting structure. It is a very enthusiastic song that makes you feel as if you're a part of the action it portrays. Very artistic. The mix is rock solid and the high pitch notes in the synth go along with the guitar awesomely. Good job there! I have to rate this, Andy. Terrific job.
Nice sound as you always do,I love the guitar sound and the synth. RATED!
its more of a comment on your stuff in general, i think its really good and there is a lot in it. i think its the kind of music that is interesting to hear for the first time but then grows and unfolds more on further listening. i like it. i know comparisons to other artists are sometimes a bit pointless but i'm thinking in a good way, Def leopard meets pink floyd!
Told you I would drop by! Wow - Queen gets it on with Flloyd and James Oakwood brings up the resulting offspring and makes it his own with a modern twist! I like the retro sounds you are getting from the cubase synths set up, they are massively coming back round again and this is why - they sound ace. I love mixing these two styles together and you have done a stirling job of it - very cinematic sounding track that you could imagine underpinning a whole movie. Get stephen King on the phone! Nice one Burton bloke - rated!
I enjoyed this. It does create a sense of movement and suspense. I tried to picture the scene you described but it didn't manifest itself in myhead that way. I picture a action/suspense scene. Would make a great sound track for a movie or tv show. Cheers Rogue
Mr. King coulda used this one in The Green Mile. May be he will write another for this one. Love the finished product (?). ABP...:-).
Now then now then, some electronica rock in the house? Yep I see what you have gone for and it works, love the guitar stabs and the electro spot fx - hmm i keep expecting it to all kick in and go off big time but I guess that is a genre thing. From every other perspective this is a well produced and fresh kinda track.
It's an interesting piece Andy. Like Dawn, I'm not sure if it fits the scene you have described but it is definitely atmospheric and the production is very clear. All round a good piece of music. Rated. Craig
I certainy wouldn't have connected this sound to an electric chair listening to it without reading your blurb...too fast, too rhythmic in a kind of spy-hunter way...still that's your interpretation and I am sure steven king could use the storyline. Not a mad keen fan on electronica but this was easy on the ear and definitely inventive. As usual, production excellent.
Right, I'm back and and this is interesting, and a departure for you indeed. Now, I tend to (after having tried, failed and not been too impressed with various computer based recording techniques etc, along with recording a whole album at a professional studio that used cubase, and to be honest it left a lot to be desired and we scrapped the whole project) not like the sound produced by these programs, except if you are making electronica. But I reckon you have done good here, mixing the 2. As it is essentially electronica, it works well I think. Enjoyed listening.
Whats this? Ady doing some electronica?! How long have i been away or is this an alternate universe? lol Its great so see people trying new things tho and so far from the sounds of it, you should be making more electronica! This really reminds me of those 80s tv shows, its the exact type of sound track that used to used on them! I dunno maybe an army type show or even better a spy show! So very analog sounding synths on this, im just wondering is it soft or hard ware. Its hard to tell the difference. You should try this up on youlicence.com and see if a tv show might pick this up because it really is wprthy or a good tv show sound track! :) Best of lcuk with it Andy! Marty
Thrilling and startling, i really like the vibe and momentum on this, loads going on. sorry not been around much lots happening.
Just been listening to andy's new piece and now i go to the other end of the scale. What i mean by that is i go from soft and gentle to gritty and dark, and gritty and dark is dont well here, very well. Love the blend of guitar riffs with the synths.. Quality of the music is very high, i can hear every sound without anything battling to get heard. Theres enough variety in the sound to keep things up and fresh. The music is almost dramatic at times, its like something big is about to happen... A different but welcome break and change up near the end is tidy and helps the track. It works more so cause this is soundtrack music.. Nice work
Great piece Andy. It is dark and deep. Scarey even in parts!!!It certainely had me on the edge of my chair. It would deffo work in a horror film!!! Great work Andy!!! Barry
As usual, I love your sound Andy. This is absolutely a scary song. It would go well with a movie during an execution. I can see the preparations going on during the song. Flashes of the last meal then to the electric chair set up - which is barbaric in my opinion. But it would also go with any type of death related movie too; war, murder. I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for the end. How's it gonna end? Your ending is ok but doesn't say execution to me. It just fizzles out. There should be a bunch of chaos then it should abruptly end - if you want to instrumentally represent state sanctioned murder. But it is a great song all around, as usual. Remember me when you are famous. Love, Ro
All that goin on and you can still hear every drum beat! Well done on the production! As Bernadette (Albert) says, love the pad. Some great scratchy sounds in there that scrat at your brain with phones on. I can feel the sponge goin on my head, ready for the jolt. 9v batteries scare me so this is terrifying. Rated and deservedly (is there such a word? WTF!)
Took a dl Andy!
Extremely clever and sinister track and can hear that sizzling sound. 'Frying Tonight'. Top class production as usual and I can hear the words in my head, but certainly not needed for this. Excellent and certainly sound track material.
Excellent track Andy! quite a concept of an idea indeed. Spooky.Very well put together and the production ( as usual) is fantastic.Love mick's idea! lol.Would make an excellent soundtrack. Gets ALL the buttons from me.Brilliant. Take Care Andy :)
Gosh, how spooky! Can't help seeing various movies in my head while listening (very evocative) and the dentist is not far away either, zzzzh. :-) Still love the passage very much. I hear that it's leading the song from a Rock feeling to a more jazzy sound (clever!). Lots of talent in all that and an extra star for its experimental character. Very well done!
So much happening, so many sounds, and all so crystal clear. THAT is a talent all on its own. I like this Andy...that chuggin gtr mustve given cramp...it just must av! Great use of the electronica sounds too....u dark horse!. I like the idea of the chair, and, with so many kids been done in these days, id use this as the theme tune for a new `daily execution` show on ITV2. gets my vote.....i aint mentioning the lyrics...thats ur call man lol mick
James, the guitar riff is very nice indeed.A lot going on but still clear in the mix. The electric chair idea is great,is it me i can hear michael knight getting fried on the chair.Mastering cubase 4 well and a nice piece of Electronic Rock to boot.
Super leap of the old imagination there! It does have a sort of spiralling, cyclic suspense about it.Very fresh and inspired.
Finished hopefully
Oh, THAT chair (I had been wondering when I saw the songs name)! :-) - Well, I hope this gets finished. It's inventive, original, inspired, weird, imaginative and clever. And scary, now that I'm starting to think about it, hehe ... For some reason I like the rising synth pad ? notes at 1.47, they are full of suspense and catchy. Will definitely drop by again, when it's finished.
Hey was gonna rate it but you turned it off! Was UP!!!!?
It reminds me of old school Rush sytle fantasy space rock. Very nice development here. :) Rated mate!
Just heard v2, this is gettin' interesting! Like the idea of the chair conjurin' up spirits every time it's used; sick, but I like it. Guess that makes me a sicko too. Moving right along, I'll be following this!
Very different, Andy, ain't new toys great? This little dab makes a bold, powerful statement, looking forward to hearing the whole speech. Great start, man, follow through!
Have know idea what DAW is. I'll look it up on wikipedia.:-). Fun to get a new toy. Sounds like we will be getting more and different treasures from you Andy. Can't wait if this "WIP" is any indication....Dan
Has real themic feel. Very edgy. Like what I've heard so far.
Has a Quantum Leap feel.......guitar works.....love the bleepage! Kevin Mooney
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars and a Rode NT1A mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary. Dead interesting lol!!!
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
