Playing With Fire
Josh Trotter (b. 1985) is a London-based musician whose work primarily lay within composition and studio production. His musical output reflects his truly eclectic taste and interest in all music.
He graduated from Brunel University in 2012 earning himself a first class honours degree in Musical Composition (and receiving the Steve Thomas Memorial Prize for Composition) where he studied with Colin Riley and Harald Muenz. Since graduating he has begun to establish himself as full-time composer and musician, collaborating within networks established at Brunel, as well as sowing seeds further afield.
As a composer, Josh continues to build upon a promising portfolio and is further pursuing composition for screen media as a specialism. Josh has made contributions to a number of films including promotional films, short art films and video games. His most acclaimed work includes composing music for a segment of Will Self’s digital essay ‘Kafka’s Wound’ which has recently been nominated for ‘best article’ in the Digital Humanity Awards. His most recent project, Displacement ZERO: London, sees him combine his interests in notated music and sound design within a self-produced film involving a 24 hour tour of London.
A constant feature throughout Josh’s career has been collaborations as a songwriter and producer; the product of such work is showcased in examples such as Emmanuella Grace’s debut album London Stories, completed in partnership with producer Snowy Raphael, and recent work with emerging pop singer D’lys. In 2012 Joshua studied song-writing at Dartington International Summer School with Ray Davies and Marion Wells on a bursary provided by the institute. He is currently working with a team producing Iranian singer-songwriter Ali Azimi’s debut album, Aghaye Past, which is due for release in late Spring 2013.
Josh has gained much experience as a performer and director, including internationally televised performances and festival appearances. At Brunel he studied piano with Sally Goodworth and Sarah Kingdom (nee. Nicolls), and conducting with Peter Wiegold. He was Musical Director for Yiewsley and West Drayton Training Brass Band for two years. He is currently Musical Director and accompanist for Little Voices Entertainment, a youth theatre company, currently working on a production of Annie Jnr.
