It's a difficult one mate because I think, sometimes, depression is a necessary part of life and you just have to work through it. Obviously if it goes on too long or gets too deep that's a different thing but in its own way it helps you to define the good times.
It's kind of hard to write that without it sounding patronising or something but it's not meant to be.
If all else fails, do a lot of exercise - it releases a load of endorphins into the brain and gives you a natural "high" (he said, sitting in his armchair eating another "magnum" and opening a bottle of beer )
Good luck mate!

As long as it is not a things that lasts for too long - longer than a
few days, I have always found that breathing exercises are good, as
they get more oxygen to the brain. In the same manner, I can see
how exercise would be good for you.
Have to agree with GreyB, you recognize the highs because you
experienced the lows. Still, a depression can be a very
unpleasant thing, being able to speak about it might be a good
way to get through it (through, not over). Accept it as a
temporal state of mind, that's what I always do. It will
eventually pass.

I have to agree that a darn good walk in the fresh air can change all manner of perspectives, although sometimes I know people can feel so down they can't actually get out of bed.
Its not out of place to go see your doctor, they won't immediately drop you some happy pills (quite the reverse these days) but chatting things out to a professional can clear the air a little.
Hope you feel better soon Minus, a lot of creative people seem to nosedive from time to time.

Cheers for the words of support, i think i could do with a holiday or something, it's been a rough year.I think the combination of certain events has taken it's toll.I did talk to the doc and he gave me some happy pills but i haven't taken them i'd rather not rely on pills, and sort it out natraully.
I think i might take your advice and go for a long walk clear the head.

Ah mate I'm sorry to hear this. It's tough mate. All I can say is try and see the positive stuff around you and make sure you're doing stuff that makes you happy more often. If you do find you're just too low and nothing seems to help you should consult your doctor mate.
Thinking of ya, all the best buddy.

Go get that vacation man !
Next year we'll both be 30 years old Minus, don't get depressed on me now. Save some untill next year
Hope you start feeling better soon man, and try to do it without the doctors prescription... Endorphines (as GreyB says) are the best ! get some sneakers on and run 5 miles, then run 5 more...
Hans
