Babylon Is Doomed?
he Craig, When you going to post some new music? Of if you have please point me in the right direction. This is just great! I was trying to figure out what decade of music you love the most.. Great solo man! The production on the is spot on.. Very polished track. Lyrically very dark and foreboding. You know I dig that every time. If you post any new tracks please let me know. I always dig you music. Thanks for all the support. Take care
Cool.
Back again.seems a bit faster to me!!! Superb production Craig.
Beautiful!!!!
Thanks all comments welcomed
51 coms i see why bud .. very 80.s usa vibe here for me with a twist of u2 in places to be honest.. your vox kicks ass dude.. a proper vocal no fakey stuff.. nice gtr riff solo half through... kool drums and percs .. im like a fish out of water here bro. sorry i cant think of nothing more to say.. rated
Always a favourite for me, love the more upfront 'ahhha' on the verse. The reverse solo is of course genius. Still has that American sheen which I especially like about your more moody stuff, and the jangling guitars sound better now. For some reason I always think that film The Lost boys when I listen to it lol, it would have worked really well in that with a swooping helecopter shot (bit of a tangent there lol) Love it even more now mate :)
Hi, Back again...and now the vocals sound just right to me. Have to reiterate: This is a cool song! Very catchy melody ...like the timing of the harmonies and those 3 main notes of synth that repeat throughout...nice and hooky. Cool guitar solo. Has a forward moving feeling and a positive feel (despite the title). Well done! Rated and nom'd. Cheers, Smudge from SMUDGIE
Wow It's been awhile since I last heard this, this is a fine example of musicianship and Your perseverance. It really pays off Fantastic Song. Vin
working this one dude...like the tempo...didn't pick up on that last listen...nice plodding melodic feel...still has that 80's vibe i was talking about :) axe work is a treat to the lugs...nice tone and fx :) and really nice with the backwards guitar :) the Beatles used to do that a lot :) more noticeable in there tracks tho...it's hard to tell on this...but very effective none the less...can't rate again...but will log in to my other account ;)
Very experiMental. Missed the 1st mix, but I'm loving this 1. I'll have to try that backwards lead sometime, I'll get up the scale for a change ;) R8!
I remember this one Craig, defo. one of my favourite ones from you. Yes I like this mix too. I sooo enjoyed listening to this one. Very well done - nice vocals & production works for me too. Very well done to you! R8d 4 sure. Sony S.
Smooth bud. I agree with my original comment and I still love it. Barry
Gday Craig, you have made a good track better. Agree with Possum on the lyrics, top job there and is a catchy tune. Well done mate.
I really love this one Craig...and I never get sick of hearing people warn us about losing our planet...maybe eventually people will start acting on it. Vocals are very cool in this...I don't listen for bum notes so wouldn't know if there was any...just know I like what I hear and this one is definitely improved and as I prefer you singing in lower register, i can honestly say hand on heart, this is one of your better songs in my opinion.
Left a "book" behind when I commented the first time, all those impressions still hold true. The lead's a nice addition to the mix; lead vocal seemed to waver at one point and had me wondering if that was a slip or intentional, harmony sounded fantastic. Still very hummable, I remember this ear-candy! Nice mix, and a very good song, well done Craig.
Yes I agree, 80s sound prevails in this track but anyone that knows me will know that I LOVE THE 80S! So I love this track. Nice vocal, a few flat notes I think in the 'ahhhs' between verses, but overall its great! Rated x
Totally late 80's pop sound. Maybe some slightly flat notes on the vocals, but that's bareable. Mix is absolutely spot on. Nice guitar sound. Nice little melody runs on the synth. All is good. I'd personally lose the vocals over the solo since they detract from it. Some of the solo notes sound a wee bit out of tune, but that could be easily rectified. I also think you should've kept the rhythm guitar going until the end. T-Bone
Listening to the new mix again after listening to the first one. Definetly fuller, lyrics are up front more with more depth and a couple places that were clearer, guitar chorus adds some metal to it big time, it's great with or without though. Glad you kept the ending like it was. I kind of like those constant low sound endings if that makes any sense. Sweet and rated
nice... it reminds me of an artist from the mid 90's, can't put my finger on it.. Very smooth track top to bottom... i find no complaints, mix is nice and balanced and the vox are right where they oughta be... good lyrics and nice guitar too BTW :-) rated obviously
this is very different dude...nice guitar and fx on it :) gives off an 80's pop vibe infact the full song has an 80's pop vibe about it....cool lyrics and vocals sound cool :) very much enjoyed and it is a bit different for you :) cool stuff thumbs up
Very nice production Bro Craig, tune is absolutly relaxing. all buttons my friend.
nice intro C, nice solid beats that appeal, melodies are cool and you sound good in the mix. I never tune into lyrics so can't comment on what ur singing, for me it only every about the sounds and this all sounds solid, good one.
Contrary to what you may think, this is actually quite commercial rather than experimental! The melodies are excellent and it's got potential to be an even better tune with some work on the backing track 'cause (in my opinion of course!) it's a bit 80's sounding which isn't strictly a bad thing but this sounds like it wants to be more modern and polished. Again, it's only my opinion but I'm not going to bulls*it you...lol Lyrically, you've hit the nail on the head and you get your point across concisely. It's be nice to hear you vocal up a bit louder 'cause you sound like you have a nice tone to your voice. Very relaxed and natural which is hard to pull off! All in all, a fine tune and a good message all backed up by a nice chap called Craig!
Very Marillion guitar sound........have listened to this a few times now.....I think it's your best song so far....in fact I'd say it rocks:P Kevin Mooney
Cracking track. Superb production. I generally try to find at least one thing to moan about but I have to concede that there's nothing worth moaning about in this one. Excellent track. well earned rate.
love the guitar sounds on this one craig, wise lyrics and couple with a soulful delivery makes this a great track, plus backed up by strong melody -thumbs up.
Excellent track Craig. Very 80's sounding- almost like New Order. Superb lyrics. Gets a rate from me. Good job:)
Another good un. all in one evening bloody hell, quick worker
Hi, Back again...still love this. Will you do another with vox a bit higher? I know I'm being pushy but I really hope this is possible! Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
oh and rated!!!
The opening of this track is good!! I like that a lot!! vocals in this are good also!! very fitted to the track and arranged well!! Guitar is good, that snare is HOT!! lol sorry lol!! I love it!!
Babylon may be doomed, but your music won't ever be. Great track.
Craig, This is Awesome man,I think many great songs come from the cuff as it was done in one evening, you knew what you wanted to do and it came to you and it just makes the whole process so much fun when it's spontaneous. Enjoyed this very much! Vin
This is right outta my book of really like style! Kinda has a Duran Duran feel but more modern... really really catchy vibe to it... Would love to hear some harmonies on it especially on the chorus area... also I would have killed the drum beat at the end and let the bass and the melody line fade out... just my opinion :-) great catch deep pop... i like alot! RN
sounds really tinny Craig, aside from that i agree with most that this is a more subtle, humble style from you. I dont really like the guitar effect your using, its got too much high frequency stuff going on and cuts too sharp thru the mix. All this needs is some heavy eq'ing and thickening up in places. Experimental? i wouldnt go that far but i enjoyed this and good on you for challenging your style and coming up with this on a whim. Highly rated.
Hi, Catchy right from the start...very cool theme too which I appreciate; I like your lyrics. A serious and also beautiful/catchy melody. Really good quality overall. Agree that vocals could be a bit higher esp since the lyrics are so important here. But really nicely put together with great production. Well done! Rated. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
Hi Craig, this has very 80's sound to it..which is a good thing for me..jangling guitar sounds nice and that little piano riff is pretty damn sweet, could maybe do with an tweak on the production here and there, but everything is there including your legendary vocal hook, nice track mate :)
Like the intro to the song, nice music, has a retro feel to it. think the vocals could do with being louder in the mix and also think the percussion is very repetitive, mix it up a bit! Nice little song, but stays on the same level all the way through, so structure wise I think you could improve it, give it a break somewhere. Still a nice listen, but I prefer your others to be honest.
In my book the best thing you've done... really reminds me of the first "Adventures" album (I finally realised that was who your vox reminds me of) which is an all-time fave of mine. Mix-wise it seems to have a little too much top end and sounds a bit "tinny" (expecially the cymbals); vox is perhaps a little low in the mix, but I just love the song, so I won't dwell there. Good stuff.
Love Babylon is doomed, very 80s electro i think, which is my fave! Rated Nathalie
Hey thanks for the comment. I know it is a bit abrupt , we are gonna add something there, like an LP being stopped or something. x
I love those little hooks in there, like the descending synth line at the end of each couple bars. Definitely a retro feel to parts of it but let's be honest; those were the days! I think I agree with Sony67 about the drums. This tune could be made into a retro stomper! Great work, mate :)
You done all this in one evening?!..damn man,,,this is superb, let alone for 1 evenings work! Very good production all round, but i do feel the vocal is sounding a hint muddy, needs brightening up a fraction maybe. And thats my only negative. Really good song, nice catchy hooks, without being to cliche', and killer melody, well written! (i just wish i could work as fast as you and get these results!:))) Loved it! MArk
Hats off to you Craig. Superb and tuneful. Reminds me of one of the slower tracks from the 80s. I enjoyed this.
Great track, really enjoyed that, all in one night huh? Interesting Lyric and great arrangement. I'll be going to sleep with that in my head for sure :P All the best Deborah Ivri
Normally I avoid "Chicken Little" songs ("the sky is falling") as we are simply inundated with the message over here in the land of Al Gore, but a few bars of this and you had me hooked. Quite different from the other songs of yours I've heard, but to those who are calling it your best I suggest they spend some more time on your song pages! Interesting lyrics, particularly the verses, not for their subject matter but for the structure and rhyme scheme, giving this a nice flow. Flanged guit and synth sounds cool, but I was waiting (and hoping!)for a big bold lead guitar break that didn't happen. In spite of these crits, like Andy F I found myself humming along with this, you've got an excellent sense of "pop", Craig, no doubt about that. Rated for the rhyme scheme and rated for that melody I'm still humming 10 minutes later. Well done! Not bad at all for one day's work.
Loved it from the out-set. An excellent subject to get the message across, to such a belting track. Guitars and synths sound marvellous. Vox and vocals are great as well and tell the story perfectly. The changes are gorgeous. My fav from you so far bud. I can hear a lot of my own influences in hear and that may be the attraction. Loved it and rated it. Barry
Does it speed up along the way or are my ears deceiving me? Maybe the flanged guitar is a little tinny and could be suplemented by a synth to thicken it up. Bit boomy on bottom end vox BUT my word a great job for a few hours work Craig and v easily gets a rate from me... electronic ambient? Not in my book but WTF do I know about genre's - FA!
I definitely agree that this is one of the best I've heard from you all round. The song is reminiscent of the stuff that tumc's been doing lately and I know you love it so I was kinda expecting to hear that influence sooner or later from you. The lyric is fab...really fits the piece and hits the message home. I was reading lyric as usual so understood every word clearly and in this kind of sound, the music should blend with the vox so if you take em up, I wouldn't go too far, a notch or two only. Love it, Craig!!
Hey my friend I think we've got a 80's theme going on here you and I. Might need to bring the vocs up a tad but the mix otherwise is right on. Good lyrics and your voice to me seems to get stronger and stronger easy rate and down load eric
got a bit of A fixx vibe from the sound of the guitar! Nice solid beat to start! voice is great in this Craig! Like the range you're using! nice subtle keys! One of my favs of yours! Amazing when it falls together in one shot eh? Enjoyed this!
Yup ya had one heckuva day!! Nice tune! Vocal could be a bit higher I would agree... But great job for a day, on a very very inportant subject!
G'day Craig an easy on to rate. Great lyrics and if anything the vox is drowned and some of the sibilants sounded a loud. Loved the tune overall. Good job mate.
I like this Craig, I've not heard electronica from you, but this is good, one thing I would suggest is maybe change the drums to make them more 'electronica' sounding. But love the melody - was totally unexpected cos I am used to hearing ya rock! Well done with this! Should ya look at a drum change, will have a re-listen. But I rate this very much. Sonya Stewart.
Great track, bit different as well for you, like the main melody carries it along great, mixture of synths and guitars sounds quite American and cool to me. Had no mix issues for me, vocals seem fine to me volume wise, but everyone mixes vocals differently so what do I know lol :) Important thing is it's a bit of a departure and a great song to boot so can only congratulate you :) Rated
Hi Craig...All this is one day !!It is a really catchy sound you have created. I felt myself humming to this .I had to read the lyrics as I couldn't make all the words out without doing so.However, it was quite a track which I thoroughly enjoyed and for that it hits the rate button! Take Care Andy :)
(NO MORE) HAPPY ENDINGS. This is the second collab between Truj and myself, follow up to the MP3Unsigned Official Chart No1 'On The Road'. Once again Tommy wrote and performed all the music and I wrote the lyrics and performed the vocals. Tommy is also responsible for mixing and mastering. All comments and suggestions, good or bad, as always are greatly appreciated. Play this LOUD!!!
Please check out my latest track, Misery Loves Company. I'm really pleased with the way this one has turned out, definitely one of my best yet! Cheers Craig
Note: Same as always, going on the basis that a score of 10 is for a release level track with Bob Rock style production. First off, let me say that Craig is a damn fine guitarist - for a long time I only knew him as a song writer but the more of his stuff I've listened to the more I began to notice smatterings of really excellent guitar playing all over the place. I was excited to see tha
At this point in time, I have reviewed getting on for a dozen Pidgeman tracks and discovered that this rock based musician is generally worth listening to. Personally I still think he is capable of much, much more but his catalog of tracks on Mp3 Unsigned (and Soundclick) will show a very competent musician and songwriter, sometimes let down by the equipment he is working with. A
First track out of the MP3 Unsigned bag this month is the indefatigable (Ed: wooahh Gilmore!! Big words!) Pidgeman. Since I first met him while reviewing Misery Loves Company (September 2007 Pidgeman has been a regular visitor to my review schedule so at this stage of the game I probably have almost a dozen of his tracks reviewed. Although there is a fair smattering of Highly Recommend
Craig Matthews (aka Pidgeman) has been a regular on these pages for the last year or so and is actually quite a prodigious musician and out of the wodge of tracks I have reviewed has done well in terms of keeping my critical beast at bay. It helps considerably that most of the tracks this UK based musician writes are good, old fashioned rock tunes and I am amazingly biased that way. Th
Out of the seven or eight reviews I have done of Craig Matthews (aka Pidgeman) one thing becomes instantly clear, I like this musicians style even if I haven't found a track to rave about yet. That is obviously just a question of time of course, and the right combination of circumstances, but I feel fairly confident at this stage that this is an artist who definitely has a Must Have track lu
I was, am and always will be a big fan of rock music, from the Beatles and beyond rock has always been a constant in my own life. Which, as it happens, is pretty good news for artists like MP3 Unigned's Pidgeman considering that rock seems to be his meat and potatoes too. Consequently we haven't had a lot ofg trouble seeing musical eye to eye and some of his tracks have indeed been standout, par
Babylon is Doomed? Fucking A, as someone once said. Don't know about you mon, but whenever me hear dat Babylon t'ing I think of reggae. Not something I would automatically expect from Pidgeman, an alternative rock musician from MP3 Unsigned I have reviewed a half a dozen times, without too much upset. Fact is, I do like a good singer/songwriter, especially when their chosen
This is an incredibly well structured song. I enjoyed listening to this track a lot and I'm really looking forward to the remake that has been mentioned. First off, the production is as close to perfection as you can get in a home recording environment. The acoustic guitar sound is exceptional. Nice and crisp, clear as a bell but with enough low mid and bottom end to keep it warm soun
First track out of MP3 Unsigned this month is from yer old rock buddy Pidgeman. Regular readers will know the man and his works of course but if ya don't here's a thumbnail sketch. He's a home produced rock musician from Coventry here in the UK and considering that he is a home producer comes up with some very decent tracks indeed. Out of the last five tracks I reviewed, three go
Craig Matthews (aka Pidgeman) is an MP3 Unsigned artist you will be familiar with if you are a regular reader, and lets face it if you are not then I am talking to myself and that doesn't even bear thinking about. Having come from a lifetime of real world music, I have found I have developed a specific ear for what is right according to that world. It's why, I think, I am sometimes ove
MP3 Unsigned's Pidgeman had a bit of a rough time from me when I reviewed Wasting Time (March 2008) a track that I felt needed a lot of improvement - a fairly common thread of my reviews of this particular artist. Which is odd because Pidgeman plays rock of various tones, and he plays it well too. Where the wheels start falling off the wagon is when you add into it arrangement, pitch a
My final review for this batch goes to Pidgeman, who I've reviewed before when he collabed with electronica artist Destri! This track, however, is one he done all by himself! This starts off with a drumbeat first, then the rest of the instrumentation comes in! The sound is very 80's, which is either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on where you stand on the matter! Personally, I like the so
Third time around for MP3 Unsigned's Pidgeman, a singer/songwriter from the UK. The first track I reviewed - Misery Loves Company (November 2007) - showed that Pidgeman knows what he's doing in terms of performance and songwriting style and Can't Stop Thinking About You (January 2008) only confirmed that impression. Where things fell down in both tracks was in the final presentation, a
Well coming up here is my 3rd review out of the people who first came into my offering post for a review. I have to say I’m very pleased with the results so far. We have Pidgman’s latest; Babylon Is Doomed?. So without further due to you all… Lets begin! The first thing that gets thrown out at me is the snare. Very powerful and full. I like it a lot. The kick has a nice pumpin
Next up we have a new track from Craig (Pigeman) called Babylon Is Doomed? which I am told he recorded from beginning to end in one evening, which only goes to show when the muse hits, go with the flow and good things can happen.
Craig Matthews aka Pidgeman is an MP3 Unsigned rock musician who I first encountered when I reviewed Misery Loves Company (November 2007). Nice track, as it happened, especially since I like the kind of rock Pidgeman specialises in. Like a great many of us, he has to deal with certain limitations about getting it all down digitally and - on both tracks I've heard - that home produced f
Next up is a track that has been doing very well on the site, 'Misery Loves Company' which Craig (Pidgeman) released a while ago. Commented on the track when it came out and stand by all my original views but will attempt a more in depth overview of the track. Track is very much in Craig's comfort zone, a guitar led power pop/rock track, a genre that has always been popular in the charts (espe
good song and good sound, yout voice is like the voice of rush.keep on rocking.
Pidgeman is a new name to me, this time from MP3 Unsigned and has the singular honour to finally rescue me from the almost constant electronica/trance diet I have had from that site since I started picking up reviews from there again. Moreover, Pidgeman promises to deliver some of my favourite; rock, and for that the man is like an oasis in the desert. Aaah burt, you sigh, rock can cov
Collabs... the MP3Unsigned speciality! There's lots of them about on MP3Unsigned, from one-offs to collab bands such as Stella Polaris Project and Hare Of The Dog! This collab involves Electronica producer Destri and Singer/Songwriter Pidgeman! I've heard the backing music by Destri before as an instrumental, and the combination of electro and hiphop sounds great to me! In this version, the middl
I really like this track by Craig, I remember commenting and rating it before, and rightly so. For a slow instrumental it has some serious emotive phrasings. Craig's understadgin of music and ear for melody shines through on this piece. An unforgettable hook is what makes this track different from most other instrumetnals out there. Craig weaves melody and structure around the central theme from s
Heavier than most of Pidgeman's other tracks this one caught my interest becuase of the distorted guitars and crip powerchords. Th eproduction throughout is very clear and the instruments sit nicely with good separation between rhythm guitar and bass. Drums sounded good to me despite some comments regarding cymbal levels. Last comment on the mix and the only part that needs minor ad
This evening I'll be reviewing a recent newcomer to mp3u, Pidgeman (Craig Matthews) welcome aboard. He describes his music as a cross between Rock and Pop. In my opinion, this track is all rock. He hails from Cheltenham in the U.K. and can rock with the best of them.
Good review to start off, a track I have already listened to and enjoyed a great deal, from an artist with a ever growing collection of very solid, well crafted proper songs. First thing I checked out when reviewing the song were the lyrics, they are a really quite strong for a song of this type, which at it's heart, is a song about despair. Rather than wallow in the misery though, the song offers
I really like this song so it's hard for me not to rate it on the high end.The lyrics are well done. It's important to me that they tell a story or make a point. There are two things I really like about this tune. one is the how it jumps into the third section after the second chorus and two, the key modulation at the end. In both cases the vocal is spot on. not an easy thing to do. it's hard to de
