I really like this track by Craig, I remember commenting and rating it before, and rightly so. For a slow instrumental it has some serious emotive phrasings. Craig's understadgin of music and ear for melody shines through on this piece. An unforgettable hook is what makes this track different from most other instrumetnals out there. Craig weaves melody and structure around the central theme from start to finish with only a slight deveiation in two parts for some flashy fretwork.
Craig is one of the most prolific members with new tracks appearing fast and furiously. Although this track is a departure from his usual pop rock style I believe that it would fit perfectly on an album of his works. It is accessible and not overly complicated for non guitarists and will be sure to capture the audiences ear though solid structure and most importantly that melodic hook.
The performance is excellent, this is where I have most respect for Craig as a guitaist. Plenty of poor guitarist can shred up and down the fretboard but very few indeed can inject feeling into a slow passage - this is the most important skill in any guitarists repertoire. Each note of this piece is drenched in feeling and you can really feel the title of the track shining through 'Alone'. Again, inthe instrumentla world track title is very important as it sets the scene before you go on the musical journey as intended by its author.
All in all 'Alone' ranks up there in terms of structure, technique and execution along with the greats but most of all it shines from an injection of genuine emotion and talent. Great job Craig, two very solid thumbs up!
