Fire In The Sky.
Great intro and build up of mood and feeling. Well put-together lyrics too, thoughtful and personal. Good effort all round, thumbs!
A very moving song complimented with good vocals and song arrangement. 'Stevie C'
Hi Mark, love the sound, great vocals, melody washes over ya and leaves a calmness, Great, Big Thumbs, Kev
From the opening sound f/x..harmonica(?) big drums lead to the vocals..the tale woven delicately...nice finger picking on the guitar..."Fire in the Sky" is nicely bigger...snare snappy...bass beating...the vocal layers are fantastic! Acoustic lead...super...everything is placed and developed so well..so artfully crafted! Thoroughly enjoyed.
Fire in the Sky, great song, great job!
I love Fire in the Sky, you have a Pink Floyd sound, keep spreading peace with your insightful music
Classic, that's what this is, I like the panning job you did, the samples were a perfect touch, didn't expect it to be so long when I came lol that's ok tho, with liberty and justice for all I leave a rate lol.
An excellent track, never heard this one mate. Excellent lyrics sang superbly. Beautiful guitars and a great arrangement. A touching subject, tastefully approached. Well done and justly rated. Barry
grabbed a download hope you dont mind mark
If I were handing out thank you's I would have to hand you the biggest one. You have been the most kindest person one could ever want to have as a friend. Your talents are truly pure and perfect. I do so very much wish you the very best in everything you do! I just adore you Mark! ((hugs))
Hey Mark... I remember this from back awhile... powerful intro and gets right to it after that... love the guitar and your vox are always clear and perfect in the mix... great stuff!
Mark ,I love this song it sounds better and better everytime I listen to it. Really great Song you have here.
What a lovely song. That harmonica is beautiful. Great lyrics too. Just all around great track!
Very thought provocing, makes me realise how lucky i am, a friend of mine was in iraq, he made it back ok, at 5.57ish the sadness of the song kind of changes to a more optimistic feel, dont know if that was intentional or not but it hints at a homecoming and a reunion. powerfull stuff.
Very nice track right from the start Mark! Love that Harmonica intro. Great lyrics, putting the message across well, and the chorus is great, the icing on the musical cake:) Nice acoustic solo too, captured very well, lots of clarity, i love hearing those pure guitar strings:) Might be a long running time at over 7 mins, but it didnt drag for me at all. Really enjoyable listen, and superbly put together song, with great writing! Mark:)
I was sure I'd been here before but apparently never left a comment! Great hramonica intro and outro, and the twinkling arpeggios on the guitar are quite hypnotic. As always I'm drawn to your bass which keeps it all ticking over nicely (even at 7+ mins it doesn't seem overlong) and the samples are tastefully used and not overdone. Some of the toms and snare hits are a bit invasive in places, but considering the topic I'll just consider them additional explosions... A tough topic to handle without sounding cliched but a really nice piece of work. Cheers, Jon.
Gorgeous track, love it, had me from the first harmonica blow at the beginning and kept me till the end :) Rated
Pleasure to listen to this again :)Peace Mark xx
yeah i remember this from before... funny thing is i played this my brother the other day...telling him about your radio show...ill have to re check my download whats different...im only on my laptop @ the mo... so its hard 2 tell anyways...crap speakers :S...don't think i can rate again but ill try... ill leave a gift regardless :) you always been very supportive of my music... very cool track and very nice lyrics :D thumbs up
I too remember this from before Mark and it has all the Ellis quality and very apt for today!! Andy :)
I Remember this from the last time Mark, gorgoeus track so thought I would come back and support it and you again, great track and that lyric still get's me 'The giant birds of war go flying by' cracking line, great stuff Mark
Gday Mark, I came to listen to this track while discussing lyrics with Dawn.Brilliant, I am sitting here listening again with my three year old swaying along on my knee awhile I am singing along with it. Great job mate.
Hi Mark, What can add to what's already been said? Icelanders have never had an army of their own and never been to war and it scares me thinking about fighting. I do love the song and how clean and clear the allover sound is and your vocals and harmonies so crystal clear and gentle. Someone mention both Pink Floyed and Poul Simon.. I quess you can hear a little bit of both in the song which I think is only a great compliment. I'm listening now for the third time... I think this is a song you never get tired of listening to... it kinda grows on you... "There's a fire in the sky" great harmonized sentence.. sounds like a hook! Anyway.. great songwriting! P.S This one is going on my HDD.. I see you have it downloadable:-)
MARK, I Love this song,Got teared up at the intro, your plucking that guitar pretty nicely also, Lyrics are Hot! Harmony smooth. Entire song hit a spot for me.
right on ! smokin!!!
good song, like the acoustic gentle feel, your voice suits this style perfectly. and indeed great lyrics Mark. well done on this
Hi, Nice clean sound. Has a bit of Floyd feel (good thing). Great lyrics! Nice clear vocals. Pleasant melody. Timely. My only suggestion would be similar to Richard's comment that a bit stronger sound to accompany the lyrics...but on the other hand, the gentle music can be seen to highlight the powerful, direct lyrics...just me rambling on...like the sound effects too. Well done. Rated. Cheers, Smudge from Smudgie
Nicely done you two! My only gripe is I feel the music should be a bit stronger(more powerful)to accomodate the lyrical content. I don't mean blitz shredding speed metal either. Just some more umph to it! Great harmonies and the harp is a nice touch too!
i just luv your voice Mark. very topical tune. nicely done.x
The Intro is neat, guitar is well brought into the song just end of the Intro!! The song is nice, as a genre I do not listen to either I think this song is good!!
Hey Mark, enjoyed the interview (very Revealing!) And led me to this track i missed DOH! Another smooth offering absolutely love the Harmonic... "To have, Give all to all" PEACE.
Nice performance, Mark! I really like the way you work in harmony on your vocals for the chorus, wish I could do that! Interesting use of effects, with the marching boots and the explosions, subtly done, and that's where I have a problem. It seems to me that the message in your lyric warrant a stronger delivery than the laid back arrangement you've given them, I'd like to hear a bit more passion in this. Perhaps it's there in live versions of this? Still, it's a very good song, superbly played and produced.
Wow, I missed this one for a long time apparently.. Beautiful.. Having at least 4 people I know in Iraq at this very moment, bring a feel of hope to me... Very touching
Love this tune, very lyrical and you can tell the writer put his heart into this tune. Nice, I like it.
I'm crazy about your intro and the songs production is done by a good professionaly talented ear, vocals peak the song with great sound, just love your songs....
Congratulations to a very well derserving role of being "Featured Artist Of The Week" Mark! :)
Nice song Mark! Love the pan double vocal production adds a cool haunting flavour. Will add you to our recommendation list. All the best!
Great song Mark. I love a song that tells a story.... The into pulls you write in..rated by me :) bad love junkie
A very nice, touching song, Mark. A very thoughtful piece.
Hey Mark, just stopping by to check out the track. Good concept.
very nice song - love the harmonies - drums are a bit loud (hard) thanks for sharing, cheers, mark
Hi Mark, can't say I'm a fan of country, or know much about it, but what I can hear is talent and this oozes it man, very pro structure\theme and production awsome stuff rated Jase
Love the arrangement here....drum levels are a bit strong or maybe it's the actual sounds.....tom fills sound a bit dry? The guitar sounds fantastic.....vocals have a really nice quality though some lyrics don't flow as well as they might/sound a little staccato in places. Overall though I think this is a lovely song...great subject and story-telling....clear production and beautiful melody so have a rating and my last nom.
Fantastic intro....Really gets the imagination going and sets the scene. Like the part about the coast .. :-) Should be in some old war film about the soldiers leaving the South East... :-P Gets my rating and nom !! Peace x
PS; sorry rated too! :)
Well as an Irishman i should listen to more folk but its just dull compaired to tracks like this! i have great respect for you tho Mark taking your time to write a song about something thats touched everyone! Some well written and sung lyrics that has feeling and emotion! Really nice backing track and the harmonica well used but not too much that it gets annoying lol Some great guitar playing to very nice riffs and the whats sounds like synthesized brass is rather nice tho i usually hate it, youve done a great job with it! Great song thats well sung and executed! Best of luck with it bud! Marty
Having my morn'in cup of coffee and listen'in to this again before I'm off to work.Congrats on the chart position.Keep em com'in,your on a roll!
back for another listen mark ,,this song has got to be one of my favorites of the whole website so far..it really hits the spot...being that there is people from other countries who think that we all stand for whats going on in the world and would act against us if it came to it is just tottally bollacks...but this song says it all ..we would all go to war if it came to our doorsteps...just the way it is...and thats whats happening all over the world ...our countries act on behalf of the UN and try to stop the tyranny thats goes on and we the innocents have to take the brunt of the terror that gets fired back at us...immense song tbh....
Came by to congratulate you Mark! #3 in the charts! Way to go and such a wonderful song and performance. Did I mention tops on production too! ;)
Great to listen to, and well produced. Lyrics poignant and very relevent.
Hi Mark Excellent song. As with all your stuff well performed. Very good clear production. Lovely Song. Gets eveything from me Rogue.
It is a good song and I enjoyed it. Ditto on the intro. I like the double-vocal sound on each channel. The twelve string sounds really crisp n makes me wanna go n buy one. Good work dude.
Like the intro with the marching and accoustics. Very clear sounding all the way through, especially the vocals. Nice song!
great track monsieur !!! nice acoustic work , great vox , very paul simonesque , to me ! nicely produced too ! very crisp !
Beautiful track Mark, Really does have a retro feel to it, vocals are excellent 'The giant birds of war go flying by' class lyrics mate. Loved it , rated and a nom
Good message, nicely and concisely put over. I enjoyed this and it goes along at a nice pace with good harmonies in the chorus. Well done!
noooo.. i just wrote a comment and it didn't save! lol... it was along the lines of... I really like the marching effect and i like the way you are singing from the point of view of a character! and that really comes across through your singing, like your acting a part.. and it really works.. i can picture the soldier! nice job! rated Jen xx
two of my old friends are training up now to go off to the army, i wish they wouldn't but they're both going for different reasons it's something they both insist they need to do, this pulled heart strings for me, it has a really old sound to this, i think it kinda adds effect , rated abeey x
This one's actually been on my mind the past few days - returned for another welcomed listen and to give you a well-deserved nomination. I really like your vocal style, Mark. Good work. Keep it up fella. :)
Nice filmish intro you used, walking armies sets the mood for the track. Nice played track, good vocals, good lyrics also. U got a clear message! Rated, good production for sure!!
well look at you using a good ol bit of panning in the middle, i like how it subtly drops out. i got to tip my cap on the panning aspects, really gives it a full sound. i got to admit this doesnt sound like you to me. the singing style really sounds 70's vibe to me. kinda has an english style vibe to the singing. cant fault the production, sounds nice, and i too am anti war (especially this one) so i can realy identify. not sure if youve heard it, but crockmeister got a really cool antiwar track too. now if we can just get all those god loving christians to stop backing the war and start backing stem cell research, maybe i wont feel so alone here in missouri! rated, gonna drop a nom off when i recharge
It was said this had a Floyd flavor... I do see that in the phrasing of the lyrics... how you let the end of a line blend into the next line... quality Mark! I like the vamp from the E to C or is it D to B... whatever that does give it a nice floydish texture... well done Mark as always come to expect from your tracks... rate and nom
Enjoyed this Mark, it's all been said, great vocals, very professional sound. Top job.
Well written, thought provoking lyrics here - you sure know how to tell a story. The guitar playing is spot on too, I like the way you doubled it up during the instrumental. Quality track.
Really good song Mark. Pink Floyd/Wall feel to it. Really like your singing and writing, qualtiy. You get another rating from me.
Theer is so much in this track to adore. In the first place, you have not gone for your usual "meshing" where your harmonies absorb your vocal into the main body of the music and that seems important in this song because it is a "one-man's-voice" song like Bob Dylan sings. This is enhanced by the echoey sound of the vox, leaving the music as background for the voice. Wonderful. Then the words are superb! The outtro, long enough to satisfy, is just exquisite and the FX are used so eloquently. Your guitar playing over all is terrific and the drums (maybe I'd have liked the odd istant drum roll or two) keep the pace nicely. HUGE NOM from me dear Mark.
Hello Mark! The soldiers marching really sets up the mood from the get to the go! This song hits so close to home for me lyrically. You have captured the listener. I remember 9-11 as though it were yesterday. What can I say about this song - Mark the songwriter, and musician? I am so impressed with you! From start to finish your creations reflect your outstanding talents! I could listen to you all day! (and I have!) Another fantastic song by you! Enjoyed the listen today! C/R/N :)
Hi Mark! This is quality. As has been said already, the vocals are clear and crisp. The Lyrics are poignant and thought provoking indeed.I served in the Military for over 20 years and can relate to this immensely...rated and nominated great job... Andy
Hi Mark' This is very cool !!! I get a "The Wall" vibe a little ...Got great tones across the board !!! Vocs are on !!! Gotta a way of commanding your attention Really like the production on this !!! Folk is so traditionally innocent and you've cataloged a fine song here.. Chorus is memorable...simple and biting...beautiful !!! Bob
A lovely anthemic tribute to the greatest generation that fought the only war in the last century or so that was actually about freedom - nicely done man - nicely done...rated
Hey Buddy.Everythings pretty much already been covered.Definitly a top notch track from a topnotch musician. The harmonies in this were awsome and reminded me of a 70's group(cant remember their name for the life of me),but anyway I like songs that take me back to what I call better times and this tune does that.Nice one mate!
this is just top class mark...your musicianship is first class...the mix is professional as can be ..and the idea is just what weve done ourselves too our own take on war lonely little Soldier. so with that all said and done this has to be given our rate for a heartfelt great song sung with real passion. and the music that backs it up is also so pro. exnt mark
songs tht tell specific stories are hard to pull off without sounding hokey. Great story. I really like how you approach your songwriting. Great intro with the harmonica. Great chorus great vocals and harmonies great acoustic tone...di I mention that this was great. I appreciate what you do. Thanks for letting me listen. BFB Rated
Aah - narrative lyrics get me every time - and your style is quite unique too, it all makes for a lovely, thought provoking listen. Sound quality is spot on, it's good to just sit back and simply listen to a song like this. Like Ricky said, really good job at holding the listeners interest too - lots of little touches here and there add so much to the whole thing. Lovely work - Rated...
very cool intro, different from yourself, rather a big build as well. amazingly clear vocals :) really nice guitar and ace bass, again mark showing your abilitys all over the track. really nice harp as well :) and gr8 lyrics :D really well put together rather long as well so good job holding interest, cool outro as well thumbs up dude
Started playing guitar when I was 8 years old, and then took up playing Bass when I was 16. Working with a couple of bands locally mainly playing Rock and Covers. Been writing songs for years but only recently (thanks to the advances in digital recording) started to work on recording them. I live in the South East of England.
Great song Mark the old guitar playing is coming along a treat....I will soon be out of a job......now send them out to everyone and become an international songwriter and star and I can say "I used to know that bloke" keep it up old bean, keep it up
This makes me think of day's gone by, freedom, and life's possiblities. Wow!
From the very start this song reminded me of Jethro Tull. The mood is very thick, and coupled with the lyrics does indeed bring thoughts of Sailors being taken from their families back in the day. I love how it makes me feel that I'm on a ship, and missing home.
great track Mark!!,,love the folky feel and the flute sections...makes me want to get back to the british isles, sit myself down in a pub with a nice guinness and ponder the world!! aaron bishop
I know of Mark's work with his bands and I am glad to hear him branch out with his solo work. He has a great ear for a melody and his lyrical structure is very good indeed. I shall watch this site and his progress up the cahrts with interest.
