Black Caco started with a vision that helped unite brothers, friends, musicians and fans alike, into one big family. Those involved in this story share a long history of fighting to find a proper place in the world where they can be kings. The one’s responsible for the beginning of this history entered the hip-hop en español scene as soldiers, but today have become Generals in this new generation of Latin music. The Black Caco family has grown to global proportions, with talent representing Canada, the U.S. and Latin America. This story starts almost 15 years ago when two brothers woke up with a dream and decided they had to live a life in hip-hop music.
Jose “Cuervo” Loomi is one of the elders of the Black Caco family. As an MC and producer in hip-hop en español since the beginning, Cuervo already knows the global hip-hop music scene and at this point can already be considered a leader within it. Sine his childhood singing in his native Dominican Republic, Cuervo has been pushing the boundaries of his natural musical ability. His talents have taken him around the world and have made him a symbol within Montreal’s hip-hop en español scene. Cuervo and his brother Canda arrived in Montreal in 1988. After a year of adjustment, the plans to pursue music came back into their vision and they decided to start B.O.C. (Barrios of Culture), merengue-house music that became a significant part in Sony’s new Latin sound of the era that included such groups as Proyecto Uno and Los Ilegales. These years were years of education in the politics of music as well as important years for Cuervo and Canda to introduce themselves to the world. After finishing the B.O.C. project, Cuervo and Canda took some time to study and work towards bringing their game up to the next level. In 1999, Caco Negro was formed. Caco Negro translates to Billy club, the weapon of choice for police and military personnel who dispatched dirty justice through brute violence. Caco Negro also translates to having a burnt head from thinking or focusing too much on a single subject. Caco Negro or Black Caco represent a new school of Latin music that is looking to hand out free and true justice from their lyrics. Cuervo and Canda decided they needed some backup and that the Black Caco family had to grow. It was time for the youngsters to get called up to the majors. Members of local Montreal group 3DR, a group of young kids who’d been following Cuervo since back in the day, and who later were inspired to form 3DR through the music of B.O.C. Groovi, Sholy and Lokoton bring a fresh, young and tough feel to the music of Black Caco. Under the wings of veterans Cuervo and Canda, their talent, experience and wisdom have helped make the Black Caco family an electrical force in the new Latin underground. With a new record called “De calles, patios y callejones”, videos and an incredible stage show, Black Caco are looking to become the future of a music scene that is part of their own family’s dynasty.
