TALENT SHOW JUDGES THAT TALK BULL%*?$
So please let me know if any of you have had similar experiences..... I took part in a talent show last week and was amazed to see the line up of judges: 1. some obscure DJ with a big mouth 2. an 18 year old girl with no knowledge of music 3. a random events manager Now, after my performance, the so-called DJ proceeded to tell me that I moved like Michael Jackson and I sang like I was singing in front of my mirror in my room. After the initial reaction of WTF from myself and the audience, the girl then went on to say that some of my singing was off pitch, to which I drew her attention to the fact that the monitor wasn't even on, and my mic kept cutting out. I then went on to sing another song in the second half of the 'show,' and was told that my voice is 'too different' and that I ma like a cabaret act. Now, if someone is going to criticise an artist then they should do so constructively and not talk out of their ass. Never mind the fact that the audience also agreed with me that these 'judges' have no idea about singing or the music scene, and all their comments to all contestants were just a load of crap!!! I am now seriously considering giving up this dream of being a singer, due to the fact that no-one wants to celebrate individuality anymore. They seem to want to imitate rather than innovate and there ain't nothing I can do about that unfortunately. Thoughts are welcome from you all... Okay....
1) Who the f**k really cares what these people think? Forget talent show judges. If you don't respect the judges, you can't respect their judgement. You need to separate the bullsh*t from the useful critique. If nothing they are saying is useful or intelligent, then ignore it. Its worthless. 2) Focus on doing your thing the way you want to do it and find the skills and people to help you achieve it. That most probably means forming a band and actually doing gigs. Don't just hope for it all to fall into your lap with one high-profile performance. Easy come, easy go as they say. Instead, build a reputation and keep building it. Its not easy, but then you'll have a strong following. 3) Stop moaning about losing talent shows. We don't care. 4) I was just joking about 3. ![]() ![]() |

you think that,s bad Nathalie..ha......a long long time ago i went onto a tv show and it was an even worse experience than yours......i had a stinking cold...they ran out of time doing soundchecks for people so i had to go on without a sound check....and on the first chord i played a string broke on my guitar...and made a horrible twanging noise !!!! ha ha ha ha :o).....it was probably the only time in my life i,ve wanted to curl up and hide for a very long time...one of the judges was suzi quatro...she told me i shoudn,t give up my day job!!!...and when all the voting had been done ..i was last.....the humiliation!!!!...makes me laugh now but i just put it down to experience in the end.....adversity is a good thing ..it makes the triumph a whole lot better......just keep on doing what you,re doing and let it make you stronger :o)

![]() Just rememered many huge artists from all over the world had been rejected and told to give up before they made it....welcome to the musicians school of hard knocks...im afraid you have to get used to it.

Totally agree with whats been said.. the problem with judges is they only get to see you for those 3 minutes, and think they know everything about you just from that short live performance, when really there is so much more.
Of course huge artists from all over the world get rejected, they can't be amazing ALL the time and it takes a lot of work to get to that kind of position (look at Rod Stewart.. hate him but still!) Based on your recordings, Nathalie, I can't see why they'd think that... do you have a strong live voice or? Edited by kiopo3 - 17 July 2007 at 1:30am |
