Please do not use variable bit rate encoding. Safest, and most efficient for slower connection visitors would be to encode mp3s at 44,100Hz

Please make sure that you tag your mp3's correctly.

Thanks

Note, the encoding rate is important if you are using the Flash player, ok.

My current recording setup  can have issues encoding MP3's.  In short my encoder isnt free and its trial period is ending soon.  What encoding programs might anybody recomend and more importantly what are the best free mp3 encoding programs out their? Links are appreciated.

An mp3encoder is built into Audacity, which is a free wave editor, though I highly recommend the extremely cheap dbpoweramp if you want something is bit fancier.

Thoroughly recommend ImToo - the free version will encode up to 5 MP3s in a session, uses LAME (the best encoder IMHO) and it's very quick.

If you want to encode more than 5 you just close it down and restart it.

If you can't say something constructive - say nothing.

To convert a raw audio format such as .wav or .aiff into a compressed format such as .mp3 or .ogg, it must be encoded.  There are a variety of different encoders, and each performs differently with regard to speed, compression ratio, frequency response and time resolution.

As you might expect, the older encoders perform worse than the newer ones.  In this test I was examining the playback quality of various encoders.  I am still convinced to this day that the LAME encoder gives the best 128k mp3s and dBpoweramp (recommended by Ffabbia and Youth originally - cheers guys ) is the best host program with a LAME encoder.  I have never looked back.
