I received the following email from a company called ArtAvant Audio recently:

The license agreement is non-exclusive. Our licensing process empowers the independent professional Artist to control and manage their financial business without the need of a third party. In other words, we pay you directly. This unique opportunity within the Broadcast industry holds great potential for the professional independent producer within the global video arts and music communities.

Does ArtAvant compensate me for my Works if they are used?
ArtAvant will compensate participating Artists whose Works are used within distributed programming. The level of compensation is determined by the nature and degree of use across the ArtAvant delivery platform. Generally, the more of your Works used within distributed programming, the greater your level of compensation. The specifics of compensation related to Works selected for use are explained in the license agreement.


I believe that for the initial programming content it has been by invitation, and with the company not completed in its roll out phaze there is little information unless you have login access, which it still limited but does answer basic questions. Since my initial contact and licensing process I recommended a few artists from this site. My original contact by them was from postings I have on unsigned.com I have not completed the licensing process so I'm unaware of the of how my submissions will be used at this point. Once I do I will let you know, if it does not pan out I will pull my submissions from their distribtuion if its appears that they could be compromised in anyway.

Thanks much for posting this additional information. Very helpful. The term "non-exclusive" is, of course, important.

I finally got around to calling them today, but was unable to speak with anyone as it was after working hours on the east coast.

It will probably be Monday before I can talk with them, but I will ask a lot of questions and post the answers here if I learn anything that adds to this discussion.

It's been a while since my last post. I've only just replied to Jamie's last email this morning (see below).

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

At present, I will hold-off contacting you guys via telephone as I am
based in London. For now I would prefer email exchange.

I would be intersted to hear what your company is actually offering
artists like myself. I couldn't get much info from your website. Any
indication as to when your site will be fully up and running?

I would be interested in finding out additional information regarding the
submission process.

There have been a few other people over at MP3Unsigned.com who have
mentioned being contacted by you. I really think it would be of value if
you were to perhaps respond directly on the MP3Unsigned forum.

Artavant contacted as me they found me on isound.com I gave them a link to some tracks I have on myspace.com they emailed me back telling me the tracks they are interested in, I mailed them 9 tracks on CD in Wav format, I am waiting to hear from them, as my tracks have to go through the submission process

If you Google Artavant this forum now comes up in the top four search engine results. We would welcome a spokesperson from Artavant to come on the site and discuss their service to a captive targeted audience - in a proper forum environment (allowing questions and answers from our users).
