Little known facts
Kelly Mitchell Kelly Mitchell is offline 29-06-2012, 14:01 PM

It takes 7 seconds for food to pass from mouth to stomach.

A human hair can hold 3 kg.

The length of the penis is three times the length of the thumb.

The femur is hard as concrete.

A woman's heart beats faster than the man.

Women blink twice as much as men.

We use 300 muscles just to hold our balance when we stand.

The woman has read this entire text. The man is still looking at his thumb.

Kelly, As a learned member you might know about this but I'm quite taken by chirality - organic chemistry is amazing but the uniformity of "handedness" in the chemistry of living organic compounds is unnerving I reckon ( unpublished data) that on earth the fact that l-isomers dominate (>99.998%) living things might indicate that life originated in comet dust because d-rotatory living things dominate deep ocean vent microbes one might assume that their evolution was distinct and seperate from other life forms on this planet (except David Cameron and Tony Blair of course!!).

It is sad that most people would not recognise living compounds based on carbon tetrahedral units can rotate light in one of two directions. It annoys me that drug companies are making use of racaemic mixtures for their original product and then extending product licences and making obscene amounts of money on the pure l-rotatory forms eg Xyzal and Neo-Clarityn and Escitalopram - It think the makers of Escitalopram have gone too far in suggesting that the abscence of d-rotatory isomer in their latest product confers some advantage It just sounds too good to be true ............ I have never had a problem switching people from their l-rotatory products to the racaemic mixtures ( which are much cheaper) ... Oh dear - see what half a lager and an an encyclopaedic mind can do to spoil your Friday evening.

I find it interesting anyway - I could give you a string of interesting facts about the effect of testosterone on fetal development and the role of AFP to mediate the effects of this.

I have never heard about the thumb thing though

Are you sure you are not confusing digit length ratios which are testosterone driven??? Hmmm - have you ever thought of what cholesterol is - yes it is formed from Terpenes - and if you plot the evolution of terpene chemistry you can follow a long interesting story on how cells interact with each other via "hormones" in plants this involves terpenes in fungi:ergosterols in animals Steroids.

Progesterone is the "big mamma" of steroid hormones and is produced from cholesterol: There are a lot of people trying to make a lot of money from "lowering cholesterol" who completely miss the point and fail to understand what cholesterol really is........ Progesterone gives rise to all other steroid hormones including testosterone - interesting that morphologically Men develop from women BUT biochemically oestrogen is produced from testosterone .....No wonder I never get anything done ....too much between the ears; nothing getting out! Right I suppose I've bored you all to tears - Has Murray lost yet???!!!!!

Well, sometimes I do like to watch RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE. Not that it has anything to do with the last posts. I just wanted to share that.

WEll - I tought I would google "slugs" and "urine" and was amazed at the 989,000 results which to me suggests a deeper understanding of why the revolution hasn't happened yet - it must be that people have been turning their attention to this area of research in droves?? Possibly a good career path for those of you who, gued to the flatscreen, have graduated from the Sim(plet)on Co(rporately)well(off) university of X-factor on to something just a little more challenging than the Tom(ime my) Jo(ld tu)nes twirly chair thingy - what is the world coming to ????

Those were quite amazing facts!
A little fact: Yngwie Malmsteen refused to play with Paul Gilbert on Paul own song called Viking kong.
A little fact:Yngwie Malmsteen is afraid of Paul Gilbert awesomeness.
