I am a member of BMI and can confirm that Tony is a BMI music publisher. So we know he at least coughed up the fee to join. Also, for those who don't know, music publishers handle royalty distribution from BMI to the artist...kind of like a middle-man who takes a chunk also.

So he looks legit up until you read the songwriter contract, which I assume he will have every band who joins his new website sign. Big mistake...it gives ALL rights of your music to the publisher for 10 years. And there's no guarantees.

I heard about this "website like you've never seen" and contacted Tony myself. Fortunately, I haven't given any personal info (address etc), but I've pasted his response below.....

I think my message to you didn't go out so I'll try again. Yes our site will be something like you never seen before. Imagine have two outlets working. The first is the internet site and the second is the satellite television. That has never been done before. We are going to have concerts every week be streamline thru the internet as well as the satellite channel. Plus for every radio station that want a spot on my channel they have to play our unsigned bands. As well as newspapers. Can you imagine the media coverage you will get. We already have promoting agencies involved as well a platinum producer. We have satellite trucks ready to roll when we start within 4 weeks. We also will have a XM radio station and 2 Live365 radio stations. Since I'm a BMI publisher we are basically all set there. It's going to be like nothing you ever saw before. What we would like to do is eventually have our own record company. Although we have connections that go straight to Capitol and Universal. Those companies you have to give up more and we are all about giving back to the artist. Our record company won't be ready not until another 3-5 years. Do you have your music somewhere online. I would like for you to meet the co-owner of 'promotingthebands.com' we work together as partners on this adventure.

Thanks
Tony Cunha/owner of TJC Communications Publishing BMI

The typos, the crappy website that DOES look like a template from the 1990s, and the obviously NOT lawyer-written "songwriter contract" are red flags. And if that's not enough, check out Tony's "introduction" message...

I've been involved in a scam before, and the the hype that Tony is spreading on Facebook, not to mention his questionable musical industry "experience" (look him up on Soundclick), is just too many red flags. Especially when he uses the words "and my associates." I only hear that phrase in scams.

I am keeping tabs on this guy...supposedly the website will be launched before Christmas.

Hope this has helped!

I've worked in the scrap metal industry, and I thought that was riddled with sharks. Music is worse

OMG! I haven't seen one THAT bad before. Earlier this year however, I was invited to be a signed artist - an exclusive deal with no retainer or guarantees either.

FYI, it is NOT free to join as a music publisher. Check yourself (https://applications.bmi.com/Affilia...r-kit-2005.pdf). It is free to join as a writer though. Tony signed up as a publisher (T J C COMMUNICATIONS PUBLISHING CAE/IPI #: 356021586).

You're welcome, I am posting more info...

Tony Cunha claims to be a partner or "co-owner" in this adventure, yet he isn't even listed on Promoting The Bands website...okay so maybe he's being humble.

A quick search on the "partners" that ARE listed on the website came up with some interesting information...

If I recall correctly, there was some kind of revolutionarymatrix domain link either on T J C Communications website or somewhere else. Now I know why this domain keeps showing up. A search on "Mike Lavoie, Todd Connell" brought to my attention that these men do Revolutionary Matrix programs. I am not familiar with these GDI things, but I think they are those "get-rich-quick" programs that only causes the program administrator to get rich because he gets commissions for every new member who joins. Like a domino effect. As I mentioned, I am not familiar with this except that it is basically MARKETING ($$$).

So now that Revolutionary Matrix is in the picture I have a feeling this is going to be a "get-rich-quick" for musicians. Either way, they've been boasting about a new website coming near Christmas, and I'll be waiting to see what they throw at us.
