Site updates and bug fixes now live

by mp3unsigned on Jan.14, 2011, under General News

We’ve just released a whole bunch of updates and bug fixes to the site which will improve the Artist and Listener experience.

Genres

  • We’ve added a significant number of new genres and sub genres to mp3unsigned.com that should cover all bases – if you notice that your particular genre or sub genre is not listed let us know!
  • When you click on a particular genre or sub genre you are taken to a new search screen. This allows you to search alphabetically or through keyword (track title or artist name). More importantly, the landing page to each genre now displays the chart for that particular genre. This is based on tracks which have had the highest number of unique rating within a one year period.
  • Genres can now also have sub genres listed below them. For example, the Electronic may comprise 20 sub genres, the landing page to Metal genre will show the most popular tracks across all of the sub genres. Each sub genre page will also display its’ own list of the popular tracks within that sub-genre. The intention is to develop this further when we introduce the lists features to also display random selections of tracks and user lists. More on that later!

IMPORTANT: To take advantage of these new genres and their charts, make sure that you log into your Artist Account and 1) update your profile and choose your main genre 2) update the genre for each of your individual tracks

Featured Genre Artists

We will now be displaying featured artists for each genre and sub genre on MP3unsigned. To be in with a chance of appearing as a Featured Genre Artist you must have a good quality artist image on your page!

Latest Tracks (homepage)

You can now click through the latest tracks to make sure you haven’t missed anything. A throttle feature in now place now that will only allow one track per artist per day to appear in the list of latest tracks. This solves the problem of new artists uploading their entire catalog of tracks and completely taking over the latest track section.

Latest Artists (homepage)

A new carousel feature auto scrolls through the latest artists (that have completed their profile), you can also manually move through the list. Now everyone who signs up will get a chance to be seen for longer on the front page of mp3unsigned.com

Artist Pages

  • Track stats now includes the highest position that track achieved in it’s genre or sub genre
  • Artist Bio, issues with the ‘WYSIWYG’ content editor have been fixed allowing you now to choose font, size, colour, embed links/images etc more easily.
  • Recommends/Recommended By list of artists now includes a tab that will allow you to see the entire list of artists that you follow and are following you. The grid on your page will randomly cycle every time your page is opened or refreshed.
  • Image Gallery issues with Chrome browser solved
  • Track comments bug fixed

Artist Menu

  • Create Modify Your Page: much easier to embed youtube content now, any link to a video will work as opposed to having to use the movie tag id
  • Add an MP3: you now have the option whether you want an upload to appear in the latest tracks or not on the homepage
  • Read All Comments on Your Tracks: a sexier version of this feature has been reintroduced, new tab in the Artists CP
  • All artists now have the option for email alerts whenever a track receives comments. You can switch this feature on or off in your Artist Account under Create Modify Your Page.
  • You can choose whether or not you want your track to appear in the Latest Tracks window while you are uploading the mp3, this is particularly handy for unfinished works and demos etc

From the Admin side a lot of architecture was changed and horrible bugs fixed. It is now easier to contact the site and for Admin to get messages etc through the contact forms. Ratings are now also completely visible to Admin by username and IP address to ensure fairness and credibility in the charts. Multiple votes from the same IP address to a given track will be flagged and deleted. So that’s that issue finally sorted!

The next phase of updates is already underway and should be released in a couple of weeks.

If you have any ideas or feedback don’t hesitate to let us know! You can reach site Admin through our contact page, community forum, Facebook page or Twitter stream.
