Nice find!  I saw him playing celebrity football for charity on the TV the other day, so he cant bea bad guy, but X-factor is just a way of making lots of money out of what is basically a cross between a lottery and job interview.

The judges have no ear for talent, and no desire to improve the quality of pop music, thats for sure.

Simon Cowell and Pete Waterman are the Ronald Macdonald and Hamburglar of the music world.

Greyb ,it seems you are assuming that all the people who enter the x factor have no talent, pop wanabees etc, but i,m sure there are a great deal of those people that are musicians and have been trying for years and working hard at it to get somewhere....the format of the show is singing but i bet a lot of them play instruments, and very well to......it,s just another means to an end

The whole point of this thread is to rant about the show,

the people who apply and participate shouldn't be the ones being attacked, the people who make this tripe, and the people who sit glued to it, gossiping about people who are at least trying, are the ones who should be attacked.

Anyone who thinks that this show is in any way about bringing out new musical talent really needs to switch their tv off, and look at the music industry all over again. Forget the internet, go down your local HMV or whatever, read a music magazine, look at an upcoming gig listing.

I think that's a fair point Stew.

In truth there have always been people for whom the fame is the attraction rather than the desire to be creative.

There seems to be a concerted effort by big businesses these days to sell the dream of instant fame or fortune regardeless of talent or hard work and that is being reinforced everywhere you look.

So even if you don't win the lottery you can fall over and sue someone for a fortune or turn up at a talent show and find immediate fame. And if that doesn't work you can get soemone in to sort out your whole life in a couple of weeks.

Programmes like the X-factor or Big Brother seem to be having an insidious effect, especially on the young, luring them into the belief that you only need to get on television for a few minutes and behave outrageously in order to make your future secure.

And of course, for a very few people, that is true. What concernes me is that for the vast majority these programmes sell an impossible dream.

But maybe it's always been that way and I'm just turning into a grumpy old man (hey, maybe I can get a place on the next series!)

If you can't say something constructive - say nothing.

nah, I'm fine, I just had a little moment late last night when I thought about how much it takes for a lot of people to tentatively expose their music to the world, especially on the web, where anyone can come across it and rip into it.

People have always looked for a way to change their situation, by becoming a boxer, footballer, musician, writer, actor, whatever, in the faint hope of fame fortune and an escape from a social/financial environment that may try to smother any artistic creativity. Now I know some of the folk that enter these contests are talentless, same as some folk who post on here are talentless. My point is that the tv people who come up with these sort of programs are almost preying on them,  as , after all, the winners are actually the tv people.

For all the people who have taken their first steps into letting others hear their music on this , or any other music site. I applaud you.

I know I am mate but I do try you know... Do I get points for that?  Being trying that is...?

I hear ya Stew.  I think the wannabe's who enter have balls.  I wouldn't!  Just to be told that I haven't got the X-factor they are looking for and have Simon Cowell look down his nose and say that I'm "less than mediocre" I got a producer who can do that for free!

Anyway... Steve you're right!  X-Factor does suck!  It's more entertaining than anything.  Sucks even more when Louis feckin Walsh needs to test his ears when he lets go the best he has!   and he wonders why his acts don't do well anymore...? Tssk.

Our dreams are marketable.  Beware.

You don't need permission for anything.
