Manilla magazine have called LUSK 'strong...edgy'.
LUSK formed in January 2003 when Ian joined the threesome of Bryn, Zoe and Duncan. The idea began to take shape several months earlier when Zoe bought a guitar and asked Bryn to teach her how to play. After writing a number of original songs together it was decided to bring in Duncan on drums from Zoe's previous band MILQUE. For the next four months the songs began to develop a definite style but something was still missing. Bryn specutively approached his brother Ian (a great guitar player) about playing bass. Ian said he'd help out until we got a 'proper' bassist' and he's still here.
More songs were written and the next step was to play live. The songs were tried out at various open mic nights consisting of 15 minute slots. By mid 2003 they were ready to play a full set and booked some support slots in Leeds and Wakefield. After doing a few of these it was decided that Zoe's voice was suffering on stage because she was playing guitar as well as singing - something had to give and so the second guitar went. A bit of time was then taken off doing gigs whilst we adapted the songs for the new set up.
Back doing a few gigs again LUSK then went into the studio in 2004 to record three tracks for their first E.P - Lake & Fire, In Time and and High Desert. The recordings were well received but new songs had started to be written that were more compelling and over the following months 'In Time' and 'High Desert' were gradually dropped from the live set to be replaced by more edgier songs.
The momentum carried on through to 2005 when LUSK went back into the studio to record Falling, The Wire and Night. The release was well received and led to radio play and positive reviews in magazines. The track were then picked up by Stacey at Skribble Records and released as a single on her label in November 2005. A very good end to the year and we were looking forward to more success in 2006 with gigs being lined up over the UK.
In January 2006 Zoe announced she was leaving LUSK due to needing time to work on other non-music projects. The band were obviously gutted but with only a brief second thought about calling it a day are now currently auditioning for a new singer. This year will see LUSK back in the studio and on the gig scene.
...........to be continued.
