Put The Stooges, Wire, The Saints, Nirvana and The White Stripes into a blender, add a sprinkling of disco beats and season the result with the energy of Hardcore Punk and you’ll get The Very’s particular brand of taste-bud-tickling high-energy rock’n’roll.
With Jake Miller’s Scottish indie credentials (his brother Casey is drummer for established electro-punk outfit The Magnificents) and Robin Schlochtermeier’s unlikely involvement in an aspiring professional rock’n’roll band (a philosophy graduate and multi-linguist, he seems on paper more qualified for working for the European Union than for screaming into a microphone) the two-piece are an odd but loveable pair.
From occasionally rehearsing in early 2004 the band has managed to progress in the space of a year to a hard-working band that is well-respected on the local gigging circuit for its explosive live shows. A steadily-expanding mailing list (current number of subscribers: 80) and a self-released EP are consolidating The Very’s standing as one of the most exciting bands currently hailing from Edinburgh.
The band were approached in early 2004 at their monthly “Goulag Beat” punk club residency with respect to releasing a single or EP on a local indie label currently being set up. Touring for the single/EP’s release later this year will take the band around Britain and abroad in Europe, including to Germany, where Robin Schlochtermeier grew up.
Taste and enjoy!
