HOMETOWN: Las Vegas
MEMBERS: Kurt Hackman, Warren Duprey, Johnny Fedevich
Vegas is hot. From It's contagious energy springs forth all night escapades, shining bright lights, and delicious sounds. It is no surprise then that it is called home to a band that is just as exciting, The Vinyl Clouds. These three guys just might be the the best thing outa' Las Vegas since the poker chip. They definitely have what it takes to perk some ears with their fresh and catchy tunes. The basic premise for their sound can be found in their collective love for greats such as, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Stones, The Cars ect... But far from just recreating what has been done before, they use those influences to come up with music which is completely original. They cite bands like U2, BLUR, Doves, Mars Volta, Interpol, The Strokes, and Blink 182 among others as currently getting heavy rotation in thieir CD players.
So what do The Vinyl Clouds sound like you ask... well picture this if you can: You take a morsel of classic rock, you throw in a dash of punk, sprinkle in some new wave, mix that in to a bowl of good ol' pop song writing and whip it in to a creamy soundscape.
Chill and serve...
This band has a very unique yet approachable sound. It’s what makes them stick out from the crowd. That's where The Vinyl Clouds shine. Their songs are so catchy that you’ll be humming their infectious melodies by the last chorus of each song. That coupled with tight chops and a great stage presence makes this band one that you don’t want to miss when they come to your town.
The Vinyl Clouds are singer and guitar player Warren Duprey, who has been playing in bands and doing a lot of in studio work for the past several years. He has also produced and performed on several projects that were released on Virgin France. On drums is Johnny Fedevich, who played the drummer in the fictional band Stillwater in the movie Almost Famous, directed by Cameron Crowe. He has also played with such artist as Peter Frampton and Paul Gilbert. On bass guitar is Kirk Hackman, who's style lends a funky edge to the overall sound of the band with his wicked chops. He has played with different bands from Seattle to Las Vegas during the last couple of years. Franky
Perez being the most notible.
They formed almost by chance in the winter of 2003. "It started out more as a project than a band" says Warren Duprey. "I would go to all the Las Vegas clubs and watch all these other bands with great talent. At that time I knew I had wanted to start my own group. I started to realize that within certain bands there were certain players that were really awesome. I knew that it would be hard to get any of them to play with me when they were already playing in established bands, so I just asked them if they would lay down some tracks for me, and that was it..." This CD is the outcome from that collaboration.
They are now gigging in their hometown of Las Vegas while simultaneously recording a full length CD which should be finished by January of 2005. They will tour nationally in support of it. The dates are to be announced.
