This might sound weird for some of you but when I read your threads I am reading words that I don't normally hear or use as I live in Canada.
What I love about you English is your accent,,,,the sense of humor and the expressions you use.
For instance, a friend of mine had friends visit from the UK and it was quite the experience. One evening we were all sitting around a camp fire and someone had suggested that we all go for a bike ride in the morning. Before the night ended, the female (from the UK) had stated to one of the Canadian guys this, "Would you knock me up at 9 as I would love to ride with you". Most of us were speechless but more shocked. In Canada, we would more or less think that saying as being a come on, or lets get to it,,, if you know what I mean.
The guy was beside himself and didn't know what to say. It was explained to him (the next day) and more of a let down because he thought he was going to get lucky,,,,if you know what I mean? lol
I once dated a nice "blok" as you would say and his mother came here from the UK. As always, we tend to try to impress and be at our best behaviour. Well, due to the long flight his mother must have been tired but instead of saying, "ok you too, I'm tired and am going to bed. Have a nice time and run off". No,,,I thought I was being scolded. I'm not sure of the spelling but it was something like this, "I'm knackered and require my,,,k_______ (the word mean't sleep but I can't remember), now, piss off. I was told afterwards that it was an expression you gals/guys use. Actually, it was the opposite of what I thought it mean't.
Some times I remember a face with a voice or a name with a voice.
What I would find interesting if you are up to it is an introduction and "hi" from the UK. Hey, I don't have any problems returning the favour as you probably feel I have an accent too. right?
Hey Youth, you're included and your wife too, lol Don't be shy,,,I just want to hear your voice.
Love this place!
Any takers? It could be anyone from anywhere really.
Thanks
Mary
The only thing is how do I listen and where do I listen from on this site? Any ideas?

That's not a bad idea, Mary. I found it very interesting to hear Pruneau's voice in the jingle contest... (seriously considering ordering one of his mugs now ).

YA, I believe I would have thought the same thing. I am not exactly
sure what that means, myself!
and..."I'm knackered and require my,,,k_______ (the word mean't sleep but
I can't remember), now, piss off. "..
That cracks me up!

To the administrators:
This is only a suggestion but is there away in which we can add an intro thread with voices of our talented artists? For instance, an MP3 of someone introducing themselves and saying "hi" to the other artists on the site. It would consist of a short, "Hi, my name is.......
If this is possible, what would you suggest. Of course, no profanity from any MP3 submitted.
Your comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary

Hey, Valerie, I am currently working on a complete Pruneau clothing
line, the 'Leather Prune' line, mostly based on South German
leatherware, lederhosen, rough cowskin shorts, and so on, so start
saving, coz once you have that fantastic mug, you are gonna want all
the rest as well
Mary, I can imagine some of your astonishment. It took me quite a
bit of getting used to the swear words that some English business
relations of mine weave into even the most trivial conversation.
One out of three things is f....ing something. Thanks to my
wife's addiction to Eastenders, and the fact that we have 2 English
channels on the cable here, I was aware of words like knackered
Be warned, I am from Belgium, and although we speak a load of
languages, we have a funny accent in each and every one of them.
Still, I'll present myself as requested, you asked for it

I'm knackered and require my kip
Is the phrase you are looking for. 'Kip' is a multiregional term, common to all parts of the UK simply meaning 'sleep'. 'Knackered' is slang (considered impolite in polite circles) for 'tired'. It derives from the process of retiring a horse too old, or ill to work to the 'knackers yard' to live out it's final few days (before likely being turned into glue).
Anyway, if you were to visit my home town, or Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK, a likely greeting from one of the residents would run phoenetically as follows:
"Ayup. Yer all reet then lass, eh?"
If inviting you out for a drink next week, a possible request may run something like:
"Al, si thee reet fer a bevvy a week 'a fridi. Get thee best togs on kidda."
And if encouraging you to have another drink......
"ah seh; av spilt more beer down me westcoit then tha's supped toneet"
Now, my own accent likely seems fairly broad to those who live outside the Yorkshire area (ask Youth, Slippy or Peeps). But my voice is generally considered 'posh' to other residents of my home town.
I would personally greet you with something like:
"Hello, it's great to meet you at last"
which is a bit ordinary and boring!!!

BTW....those of us living in this part of the UK DO have (contrary to popular belief) running water, indoor toilets and electric streeet lighting!
A friend of mine met up with some Americans whilst auditioning for a bit part in a film recently. They were apparently amazed that people from outside London actually have indoor toilets!
