My Dad popped round yesterday whilst I was browsing the new tracks. I had a jazz track playing and he said this was his favourite type of music, and asked who it was?
I then introduced him to the joys of this site and the Jazz/Folk section.

I have showed my parents my music... their interest lasted for all of 2 seconds, just to make it look like they cared They're somewhat supportive, but I don't think they have a clue what I'm doing

Yeah, my kid has discovered mp3unsigned, with some parental guidance of
course. He's 8, and he's a very talented guitar student, mostly
interested in flamenco, but he can spend his entire evening PC
allowance surfing around on the site, headphones on his head, head
either softly swinging from left to right, or banging front to rear,
depending on what artist's page he is on
I think it's one of the things a parent will want their kid to discover, or a kid wil want his parent to discover, of course .
At least I prefer him listening to music, instead of playing half life
2, which will scare the living daylights out of him every time

I firmly believe that if your parents like your music, you are doing something very wrong indeed!
I'm proud to say that my parents are totally, 100% bemused and utterly
isolated by everything that I have every produced, they are totally
unable to relate to it in any way; and on the few occasions when I have
played them something of mine, it has simply had no hold on their
mind....there as no frame of reference....it was just meaningless noise.
I've (worryingly) caught my wife half-liking an occasional track from
time to time, usually the more commercial ones...but luckily a great
deal of what I do is totally lost on her...she ABSOLUTELY HATES tracks
like 'Far & Wee'...and if I play 'ARK' it sends her into a frenzy
of abuse and screams to 'turn that damned racket down...it's just bang
bang bang bang all the way through' (that's almost a direct quote rofl).
Karen does like Mary Gottschalk, Serenity and Raquela very much
however, and I've caught her tapping her foot to Rakk's 'Tronic'.

Sadly I have to agree. I have always liked music a lot, at least
what I consider 'good' music. That is a very wide range of
musical styles, I have cd's with gregorian chanting, early medieval
dances, baroque, classical, some (more accessible) jazz, rock, metal,
pop, most styles i can appreciate to some degree. I
take care to listen to music made by people with a minimum of street
cred, singer-songwriters, people that make music out of passion.
The only thing I loathe is commercial style instant success marketing
rubbish. And I observe, with dread, that my constant remarks of
'what kind of drivel is that' or 'what does that idiot think he's
doing' whenever one of those marketing wonders hit the TV-screen, make my
son more and more inclined to like it .
Oh well, I guess it's natural indeed.
