Neighbours!

Our garden is pretty much joined to our neighbours, just a path in the middle. Now , another neighbour's garden backs on to his... an angry fella lives there with his new doberman dog, though still young..its quite big.

The "fence" between their gardens is about 2ft......... Anyway the dog is excitable to say the least, as they are whilst young, and barks and growls when my fam or the bloke next door leave the house.

Today the dog jumped over the little fence moving towards my kids- 2,4,6 and 8 year olds......whilst snarling, i think it may have attacked but i got in the way and maybee it wasnt quite sure, then the bloke next door shouts to the dog owner from his door "get that f*'ing dog off my garden or i will shoot it.......i wont hesitate next time!"

"time for tea kids" i shout and that was that.....
I dont know whats more worrying, the crazy dog, or the neighbour with the shottgun!

Does anyone know if the bloke with the dog has to provide proper fencing for the beast?

In the United States, it wouldn't be unheard of for you to sue your neighbor for the trauma caused to the childred by the dog that has the potential to ruin their lives for ever .  We are an overly litigious society.

Seriously though, around here, there's lots of liability to the people for their animals and children - but we really shouldn't need a law to tell people to be responsible.

Call the police and see what they have to say.  Its better to divert any chance of harm to the kids than to wait for it to happen so that the dog can be shot or otherwise destroyed.

Any normal person with an ounce of common sense and responsiblity wouldn't own a large dog (or any size for that matter) unless it was properly fenced in. Doing something after it has gone for one of your kids will be far too late. Contact the authorities sir.

If all else fails, shoot the bastard and pay the fine.

Do something about it now before it's too late! Can you imagine if it does attack and scars one of your kids for life! I hate dobermans they always scare the crap out of me. When I was a kid I lived on a rough council estate and there was a doberman who just used to roam around on it's own. It was massive and didn't like me, I remember bumping into whilst walking home from a friends, I had to quickly hide behind this wall, I swear that dog stalked me trying to find me for a good hour, I couldn't breathe I was so scared lol. Anyway call the authorities Martin or at least go and speak to the neighbours and explain your concerns.

Yeah your all right, i will do something - gonna invite the owner to dinner and serve up the dogs head!!

no, really i am too peaceful, i spoke the the owner a while back and even took the kids to see the dog when it was a little pup as we all live very close...i thought it better for the kids to get know it while its little. unfortunately it doesnt seem to have worked, the beast just seems to be gaining confidence and trying to expand its territory by the look of it..

I'm gonna go and speak the the guy once more tonight, if that goes wrong....I will be P*ssed off, believe me!!

rescue dogs etc. have to be in a properly enclosed garden before the rescue places/rspca etc. will let people have one, so there may just be a bylaw or regulations that means that the dog should be properly fenced in.
Contact your local council, and ask them. At worst it will be a record that you have raised a concern about it.
