Yes, I've known about Verichip for some time now, and your line of reasoning has been playing through my own mind as well. They've gone further however...much further than we might imagine and are now genuinely experimenting with a method of inducing drugs via slow release method directly into the bloodstream via an adaptation of the chip. It sonds like science fiction, but the technology is there, if not quite ready to mass market, it's being tested, and it's real.
The 'benefits' are championed as being entirely benficial within a medical sense, patients who require insulin for example, or have other mental or physical conditions which require timed dosage at regular intervals can now have these administered via the chip in an automatic, hassle free manner.
...But of course if 'chipping' is made compulsory (as it surely will be in the future) what are going to be the likely results? Our worst nightmares revealed? Individuals 'stealth drugged'? fed pacifying dosages of tranquilising drugs in order to keep them meek, servile and unquestioning?
The possibilities of genuine, physical mind control are closer than ever before.
