Genre and Browse menu items
Erik Jurado Erik Jurado is offline 30-01-2013, 08:42 AM

This is my favorite music site - no question. But there are a couple of things that I wish could be taken care of.

The first, would be the "Genre" listings on the menu. That seems like it would be so cool to be able to browse a particular genre for all the bands that labeled themselves as that particular genre. The top 40 of all time listings for each would be nice to see too. I have wanted to see that for so long, and I just figured that it would be done some time, but now I figure that I would bring it up and find out whether it is going to be done or if it's not even on the agenda.

The second, is something that REALLY gets on my nerves, and is the reason that I end many sessions I would normally spend listening to others music and leaving comments, and that would be the BROWSE section. There are SO MANY bands on here that have NO songs at all, that have taken down all their info, that are pretty much just a waste of browsing space and time on here. It may not be a problem for everyone, but my computer takes a few seconds to load a page, and after about 5 pages in a row with nothing on there happening quite frequently, I end up just thinking to forget about browsing.

I don't know if anyone has already asked this, so I apologize if it has already been discussed, but if one or both of those were fixed, this place would still be my favorite place. I don't know why I admitted that, I should have pretended there was some competition or something, but I'm too tired to go back and start again. Umm, yeah. I'm done.

Thankyou for your thoughts Eric.

I agree that there are probably alot of discarded music pages left here on this site. Maybe it's worth a look into this and removing the pages.

But also, the good thing about this site is that it has never been ruthless about time scale. The door is left open for that person to return some day and re upload new or old tracks.

Imagine if one day you took all your tracks down, took a break/had a kid/got married , found new strength, time and sounds again, and went to upload to your good old page at MP3U. You go to log in and it says " Who the feck are you?" You have no page to return to. It wouldn't feel too good would it?

I understand your frustration as a browser, but also think it's one of the cooler things about this site that separates it from a corporate one that would rip your page away from you if you didn't post within a year.

I have taken down all of my songs from sites, usually the sites I didn't want anything to do with any longer. Some bands that look as though they left, have still kept up a song or two - that is what I have done at a couple of sites that weren't worth my time but I still thought I may return back to them some day. I did that at SoundClick and SoundCloud.

Well, I just thought it would make the browse section worth browsing. As it is now, it gets really boring seeking out bands that have come and gone only to find a bunch of empty pages. I get what you are saying about not being a typical corporate site, but I have been trying that browse section for about 3 years now and it still annoys me. That's nice to allow someone some time to go through whatever they are going through, but instead of allowing one or two or ten of the lot the convenience to return years later, it sure would be nice to have pages with music and have those few people just start a new account if they get the urge to try music again.

Maybe it is just me. It's not like I'm going to quit if it doesn't get done. I just won't browse.

It reminds me of having basic cable T.V. I have so many channels listed, it looks like I'll never get any sleep, and then when I start going through all of the channels, there are whole sections that I don't even have access to. "OOH LOOK, 30 CHANNELS OF FOOTBALL, 30 CHANNELS OF BASEBALL, 150 PAY PER VIEW CHANNELS, 100 HIGH DEFINITION CHANNELS, 30 PORN CHANNELS!" Then as you click on each one, "FOR ORDER INFORMATION, CALL YOUR CABLE COMPANY." After a while I realized that I only need to stay in the double digits because I don't have HD and I didn't pay for the other 1100 channels. LMAO!!!!
