Tracks order part 2
Pidgeman Pidgeman is offline 18-08-2012, 04:51 AM

No Ant I agree with you
I used to put my tracks in alphabetical order which was simple with only a few tracks. Now having to change the number of 50 tracks to do it. No way, can't be bothered.
By the way if you post in this forum the only people that can respond are yourself and admin, in case you thought people were ignoring you.

Darth, I'm not entirely certain from your response that you got the gist of what Ant was trying to say.
It is so time consuming to manually adjust the track number of every single track on your page, which is basically what you would have to do every time you upload a track if say for example you want to list your songs alphabetically.
Eg say I have these songs on my page

1 Aardvark
2 buttface
3 c u next week
4 dipsh1t
5 Eek my balls are on fire
6 Everytime I fart my arse catches on fire
7 F@ck this for a game of soldiers
8 Get orff my land you bast@rd

Now say I have uploaded "English summertime is bo11ox" and I want to put it in alphabetical order.
If I were to put the track number as 6, then all the tracks below should adjust accordingly automatically ie 6 becomes 7, 7 becomes 8 and so on. However this is not the case, there would now be 2 number 6's and 7 and 8 would still be numbered the same and those 2 number 6's wouldn't necessarily list in alphabetical order. I would have to go and manually change the original number 6 to number 7, the original number 7 to number 8 and so on.
In the above scenario that may not seem like too much of an endeavour but imagine you have 50+ tracks on your page in alphabetical order and you you want to upload a new track beginning with A and you want to keep them in alphabetical order. You now have to manually change the number of over 50 tracks. It is a proper pain in the arse and the reason why I gave up on trying to do this a while back, it takes half a day. If the system was changed so that you could just change the number of 1 track and all the other numbers higher than this adjusted by 1 accordingly it would be as the meerkats say, simples.
If you had already got Ant's point and I've just completely wasted my time with this convoluted post then I'm sorry on 2 counts
Anyway, I agree with Ant, this is an issue that should be addressed.
Craig

Thanks Craig. Yes, I gathered from Anys posts that the ideal solution is one that allows for placement of a track and automatic adjustment of surrounding track numbers, plus the ability to manually change the track order in any way you like.

I think this might be possible. I don't know what Daw you use, but many sequencers have a drag and drop feature when you add a new track. You can drag the track to anywhere in the sequence - very top, very bottom, next to another specific track for whatever reason.

If such a drag and drop feature was possible with the track list it would save a lot of headaches.

I'll let you guys know if it's possible or not, or if there is another solution.

Thanks,

D.
