waiting for a song to start playing

This is a half rant.

Due, I suspect, to my "moderate" internet speed (probably cos I'm a bit out in the countryside) some people's music pages are really just hypothetical entities to me. I tried to play one guy's music and gave up after ten minutes last night.

Apart from my internet speed (which I might add is perfectly fine for most folks pages), the main problem appears to be the number of pointless photographs some people have up on their page. As pretty as they may be (and some aren't pretty of course), it appears that these images need to be downloaded (or loaded or activated or whatever) first at the expence of the song streaming.

May I suggest that if the site undergoes any future modifications, pictures aren't given equal or higher priority over streaming. If someone wants to look at a few mugshots then that is the time that the pictures should be activated.

Helpful suggestions like "why don't you move into town" will be ignored

I sometimes get that issue too James.. need's to be fixed somewere along the lines. also uploading music sometimes does it must be an easy fix somewhere? unless we ban pictures on music pages that might stop it lol

I don't have a problem playing streams on anyone's page. I think it has something to do with the flash player you're using. On my iPhone I can't play anything as it doesn't have a flash player and the site is useless on anything Apple. We haven't heard from the powers that be in a while and that worries me for the future of the site. I still believe this is the best site for and by musicians.

Admin are always working away in the background Rich, updating Facebook, the Banners, and general day to day running of the site keeping it online and relevant

I personally have never had any problems lately uploading or listening on my pc. My Smart phone, as Rich says doesn't play music on mp3u due the Flash Player. That isn't a site issue though. Maybe it would help admin if you guys posted your browser and connection speed so they could narrow it down and nail it so all users have a clean, quick listen and experience on artists pages

Also, maybe having an option to turn images off would help to speed up a slower connection for rural users

That's why all my stuff is at 48 (CD speed). It plays straight away & the quality penalty is minimal.

There's one hell of a technical error going on here. Firstly CD data rate is 44.1 thousand samples per second and as it's 16 bits per sample and stereo (twice as many samples) that adds up to a total of 1411.2 kbpsec - much faster than the fastest mp3 rate of 320 kbps. It's got nothing to do with CD rates Kelly.

And anyway, the problem is not the music it's the photographs loading while the music is trying to play.

Kelly you do understand it's only mp3's? As far as I know the max mp3 size is only 320kbps. 16 Bit wav file would be 1411kbps. But you can't upload 16bit wav.

I don't have any issues streaming at the moment and I don't often come by pages on here with pictures other than artist picture.
