Download 'harvesters'

OK, I may be a bit naive or precious here but perhaps someone can fill me in. I have a couple of tracks on my page eg 'Voyager - Contact Lost', which have seen a big jump in downloads over the past few months. In 'Voyager's' case it's up to 345 downloads, yet I haven't received a single new comment on the track since Nov 2011.

I've always been very happy to allow downloads of my tracks to fellow MP3Uers (in fact I'm very flattered that any proper musicians (which excludes me ) want to listen to them, but as I now have these tracks available for download commercially I'm a bit narked that so many have been taken without so much as a word of thanks or a constructive comment on the tracks. Is there some kinda automated Bot out there harvesting music or are people just too busy / mean / unappreciative to leave comments? I've now blocked the download option on a couple of tracks. Any thoughts?

With the amount of spam bots signing up I'd say pretty much it's probably down to them. I've never seen a site that has so much spam and spam bot members. It's crazy the amount this site generates.

Well... anyone could provide a link for downloading harvesters?? I seeking for a genuine one for keeping away from spammers.

I've noticed on everyone's page I've been to in the past 6 month that the d/ls are huge compared to 5 years ago....I've just not figured out what they are doing with the downloads....

You don't even need to download it for the stats to show a hit. So I think nothing, as they're probably not downloading them. Some downloads will also go to other sites, like Last FM. Who steal content, from other sites. Plus ring tone sites. A lot of the time they just steal the hyperlink. So they don't need to download they just link via that. Obviously there will be members downloading, I just don't think anything close to the amount of download counts certain artists get.

I agree. I thought the value of my songs came from the amount of downloads I counted. Somewhat depressing but I have discovered and have always known that successfull music can never nor will ever be about talent or quality of sound, musicianship etc. As hard as it is to see all of one's countless time in practice and hard work will never get recognized without a gimmick or shock value of some sort. that's what genuine music is all about. The best musician's were never heard and died screaming please listen please. I wish that i could know whom to truly listen to from yesteryear unfortunately music has been in a stand still since the invention of money. It's but another shame brought upon mankind through his propensity torwards greed as it always shall be! -Mike
