People who say your music sucks
kyleaayron 17-02-2013, 05:17 AM

How do you deal with them?

I don't normally get that affected with what others say about ME personally but I have a really hard time not getting upset when someone says my song is horrible or that I suck or that my song was so bad it was laughable, without saying why or getting you pointers to improve.

Sometimes I don't know if people truly mean this or they are just being jealous.

Your cover song: Really difficult to hear the vocal in many parts because the backing track is distorting far too much. Sounds like everything was clipping and you also say you changed the key of the original recording down an octave - sounds like this was done by software - the actual backing track sounds horrible because of this dude - it all sounds very bassy and distorted. I'm not saying your voice is bad or good - i cringed at the awful techniques you used to do this tune and I wasn't able to fully listen to your voice because of this. Parts of the vocal that did come thru were OK but some other parts sounded like poor karaoke. You have to listen to what you produce from a sound-production perspective or people won't get past the first hurdle - after all, you wouldn't buy the 2nd-hand car covered in dirt, scratches and dents if it sat next to a clean version of the same model - a little more care cleaning your song then "knocking out the dents" costs time but is worth the effort.

Have you never listened to something on the radio or TV and said "that's shit!"?
50% or more of music that makes it onto the radio to me is shit.
Even with often great production values and pitch perfect vocals (whether real or autotuned) a lot of it is still shit. And that's stuff that made it as far as getting onto radio. Why do you think that people aren't going to think the same or worse about most music produced by us amateurs? The fact is you're less likely to get a hard time from other musicians. Your harshest critic is going to be the general public who have no insight into the making of music and will just compare it to what they hear on the radio or TV. Andy (James Oakwood) will tell you that it all comes down to production values but the fact is if you have a good voice that should show even with a poor recording to some degree. I also listened to 'Stay' and I have to agree with Ricky (Diskunktional DJ's). It is not laughable though, it's offensive to the ears.

A comment left on the track "Stay"

This is a good cover, nice piano work too, the only suggestion I have, and a lot of people (including myself) do this starting out in music production, is not boosting the treble or highs enough. I used to be so scared to boost the highs in my songs and they suffered because of it for a long time. Otherwise, this is a cool cover, good job! You've got some great piano skills!!

This is what I fcuking hate about this site. The amount of BS comments that people leave. All for a fcuking return. Makes my piss boil.

This commenter should be ashamed of themselves.

This thread caught my eye, so I had to stop by and give a listen to what all the fuss was about. Didn't much care for either of the tunes posted, I'll agree, someone saying your tunes "suck" without offering constructive criticism is a bit harsh...a lot harsh. Get used to it. Posting in public forums like this means anyone gets to comment, and they will.

I started playing and writing songs when I was your age. My old man told me at the time "If you were singing for shit, you wouldn't even get a smell"...his way of telling me "you suck"! And I did, it was juvenile, it was poorly performed, it was pretty bad. But I believed in it, stuck with it, kept practicing and looking for pointers from everyone kind enough to give them, and today....

I still suck. Every now and then I get something right, but I still get a lot wrong too. Hang out here long enough, listen respectfully to others songs, comment honestly and folks here will reciprocate. It takes a bit of work, a bit of time, and better material. Keep working on it!

I was going to listen and give my thoughts but you have no link up to your page in this thread? That would be a start

Red face

For what it's worth, most people in my personal life listen to my stuff and could give a rat's behind when it comes down to it (this site excepted for the most part for some unknown reason). My feeling is, if creating and performing it makes you happy, have at it. If you are looking for fame, money or even just feedback to make you happy as the result of this process, well, put on your armor and batten down the hatches. It's going to be a bumpy ride.....

To be fair I only commented on this thread for the fact it was in the rant section and I also believe it is someone taking the piss. One, the guy is new to the site and had no feedback on any of the tracks he had uploaded. So I was just been a Bellend. Simple fact is if it isn't someone taking the piss. The quality was that poor anyone who does leave negative feedback has every right too. It's simply poorly done.
