Best way to repair the plastic casings on Alesis cymbals.
Erik Jurado Erik Jurado is offline 16-08-2012, 11:20 AM

I have a cheap ass Alesis DM6 digital drum set that has 3 cymbals with cracked casings on the underside. The cracks are flush with the cymbal - which makes it an easy repair. I repaired them temporarily with some glue, and then with some gasket sealer (no particular reason why I used that except that it was there! LMAO!) Well, they are all cracked again! If I could somehow get some kind of hardening, rubbery substance to bond the plastic casing to the cymbal, it should work perfectly, only problem is I have no idea what to use. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Erik

How about Aquarium silicone?
It bonds quite well...and stays pliable when set.
Available at all good pet stores

I ended up going to the hardware store to look for that aquarium silicone, and found it - along with about 35 other products that did basically the same thing. I decided to use a product called SHOE GOO! It was inexpensive, sticks really good and turns rubbery - IT WORKS PERFECT!

Thanks Mart!

Yeah, "Shoe Goo" works excellent! In fact, if I ever replace one of these cymbals with a new one, I'm putting Shoe Goo around the casing before I start using it. I haven't had any problems since.

This is where I got mine:

or

I even got an extra one for any emergency repairs! LMAO!

If you don't live in the U.S., you can just google it and find someplace around where you live so you don't pay for the extra shipping charge. My drums are still holding together, although, if I ever have to open the thing up again - I'm outta luck! Hahaha! But it sure beats intermittent registers on the cymbals!

Good luck!

Erik
