Headphones n Monitors
LIQUID 30-12-2009, 10:44 AM

I seriously need to upgrade my phones and monitors but have little room for monster speakers and I`m also not wanting to spend a small countrys annual budget. Can anyone reccomend headphones and/or PC monitors that give all round great frequency response. I work in a very small space so I dont need power or size.

I can't recommend headphones cos I only use em for vocals BUT if ya got the cash I'd recommend the speakers that I use - Mackie HR624s. You should be able to get dimensions from the web. They have built in amps and pack a decent punch but they aren't what you'd call hifi speakers - they don't flatter sound - they reproduce it warts n all i.e. they are studio monitor speakers and pretty good too altho they are at the bottom of the range for some studios. I use em for all my mixing and mastering - see the picture on me page for a quick glimpse of size dude

Thanks Andy your speakers look impressive I'm sure they sound amazing but likely to over my budget given that my entire setup probably cost less lol but I apreciate the feedback and at least now I know the standard I should be trying to achieve.

I use a pair of Tannoy Reveal monitors, Passive, so they got thru an amp, give out a decent sound.
As for Phones i use Akg K240, excellent sound, about 60-70 quid.
If i was on a budget tho, and looking to get some monitors, id probably go for these , (or something like it)excellent price, and should sound 'OK'. Behringer usually knock out pretty good value and not bad quality gear ive found.

i use Grado headphones (they are all good basically lol) I have to be creative as I record, mix and everything without monitors due to living circumstances, not ideal, but the Grado headphones have an amazing bass depth and they are very uncoloured so make the best of what you have lol, they look cool in retro kind of way as well lol

That must be really tricky, cos I find it so hard to judge the bass levels with my Technics headphones...may be I need to upgrade 'em

Yamaha HS50m - can be found cheap on ebay and, and are active, so no need to worry about matching with an amp.

I think the technics headphones are aimed more towards the DJ, so the bass stands out when they are beat-matching!!!
I think you should upgrade Mart, been lookin at a pair of Reloop phones on HTFR. Excellent frequency range for £60. This was the colour I was looking at, but they also come in white!!!!!
RELOOP RHP 10 - HEADPHONES (CHERRY BLACK)- A PAIR OF

As far as monitors, I use these:

Entry level but very effective!!!

Hope this helps at little!!!

On a budget, try these -

Headphones - BEHRINGER HPS5000
BEHRINGER: HPS5000

Behringer monitors are cheap and have good quality too.

Monitors - KAM KPCS20
KAM.CO.UK - THE OFFICIAL KAM WEBSITE - KPCS20 kit

Not brilliant but are nice and clear and will definitely do you mixing mastering and monitoring!

I have use both products personally and still do. So if its budget you want, then i recommend those 2 products.
