I thought I'd offer a pic after having enjoyed watching this spectacle in HD on CBC TV, in the comfort and warmth of my chair in the family room

This North American phenomenon is sponsored by the NHL and is known as the Winter Classic. A regular National Hockey League game (winner earns 2 pts in the league standings) but played outdoors on a rink constructed especially for this event. This is played in Michigan State Stadium - The Big House - in Ann Arbor Michigan. Usually this would be filled with crazy American College Football fans, but on New Years' Day, tens of thousands of Toronto hockey fans jammed the border at Detroit to join their US counterparts. Figures vary but most reports put the number in attendance to be over 110,000. That's 110,000 crazy hockey fans who just want to party and celebrate the game of hockey and a classic throw back to 2 of the Original 6 teams: Toronto and Detroit. The Leafs won, and that is a bonus for me, as a Leaf fan. It may not be Lord Stanley's Cup, but this is as good as it may get
