Copyright question!

I have come across this poem in a book that was written by an unknown prisoner ( As in the poem was written by an unknown prisoner), thats all it says...'written by unknow prisoner' is there any copyright on those lyrics?

Not sure how it all works to be honest....would like to use the lyrics but I obviously don't want to infringe any copyright and I can't seem to find any other info as to who wrote the lyrics???
