radio airplay

I own a radio station in the states, near the Canadian border. I'm new to the forum and have been listening to the music on this site, and some of it is quite well done. I like to play some unsigned music on my radio station, but most of it is local music. We also play community talk, school concerts and open mics. We play a lot of music but want to play more from other parts of the country and world.

I want to open things up a little, and want to play music by some of the artists from this site. If you would like to be played on a good little radio station, I would like to do that, and any well produced and content friendly mp3s will be reviewed and played if appropriate. All genres are welcome, just make sure you specify in your email what the genre is, so it can be rotated accordingly. Just email mp3s and descriptions. Please include the lyrics in your email. A short bio would also be good so we can include info about you and the songs in intros and outros. Also any comments or stories about the songs themselves would be interesting to talk about on the air.

Remember, no inappropriate words, violent, or sexual content at all, as this is going over public airwaves. Thanks for listening to my rambling, lol, and we look forward to playing more and more unsigned music that isn't quite so local.

Bob

A bit restrictive. Most of my stuff wouldn't qualify due to dark themes and occasional bad language. I do have a couple of 'pop' tunes you're welcome too though. Why not download them from our main site, where you'll also find lyrics, bios etc....

Hmm, I guess that might leave 1 or 2 playable tracks from my repertoire

Seriously though, considering it's for public radio I don't think it's overly restrictive, Tony. We choose our own themes and lyrical content, so if artists intended public airplay all along we are only restricting ourselves by what we write...

That said, the best version of Turquoise (the Miller version) only has one swear word, so I reckon it would be fairly easy to upload a radio-friendly version, if you are up for it?

Bob,

I'll have a look through my songs and post direct links to the acceptable ones for you. No point giving you a link to my artist page as you'd have to dig through a load of questionable material to find them! Lol

I understand that there are standards and guidelines you have to follow for public radio, but I'm just curious, in radio is there a similar concept to the watershed on TV? For example, after 10 or 11pm when kids are (or should be) fast asleep, there are allowances for more adult material?

A late night radio show devoted to risqué or underground material might turn out to be very popular... Just a thought.

Phil.

Watershed normally applies by the station owner...but with it been community radio... Very few if any allow for watershed.

I have a show on community radio...and they are very strict on content.

I've had the station manger screwing his face up @ me a few times.

Hey Tony, I like your stuff, am having a hard time finding lyrics. I have a lot of cool stuff in rotation, Alive (Home, Turn away, Paradise) Amy Caldwell, Chickie, and Tons of Dawn Sinclair, James Oakwood and Deon. Those are just a tip of the iceburg. I'm playing much much more than I was even a week ago. Needless to say, its a beast of a project. I also want to have some heavier and darker stuff on after midnight, but the content would still have to be free of the "seven words you can't say on tv, lol.

Thanks to everyone for encouraging me, and any advise would be great. I love playing more music; I am personally extremely open minded in my tastes, and there was a time that I recorded and wrote a lot of songs myself. Now I mostly strum, and record a lot of ads. How's that for having screwed up priorities? But the kids are always hungry, and Top Ramen doesn't quite cut it for dinner anymore. I still write a lot though, although many of you are Much better...

Bob

Hi Bob

Sorry I dissed, you, my bad. We get a lot of 'visitors' drop a message or a pimp on here then you never see them again. You're obviously not one of those.

Sometimes I forget to put lyrics up, other times I can't be arsed! If there's any you would like to see lyrics for, let me know and up they go!

Tony
