'Must have' free VST's?
Superhuman Superhuman is offline 09-08-2010, 14:24 PM

I guess this question should cover all DAW's that support VST's and VSTi's. What free VST's are you running on your setup that you consider indispensable? It would be very handy if you could give a very brief explanation of what it does - also 'free' is the name of the game here

I'll post up a few that are relevant to guitarists later when I get home (reverb, chorus, flanger, tube effects and various distortions etc) but I'm sure they would work just as well for the electronic crowd.

Looking to streamline my setup and ditch all of the useless VST's I've amassed for some plug-ins that are worth having - this could become a cool resource thread if we keep it to useful stuff that MP3ers are actually using.

Cheers,
Dave

Could not live without:

1. Free Haas Delay Plugin

Awesome stereo placement with the above free goodie. Nice set of pre-sets, no real need to tweak the 2 knobs on this one

2. dblue Glitch

Drop this on any channel to add interest to anything: bass, leads, percs, whatever

I have used both on all of my recent tracks, both are easy an fun to use

There is a thread in the music help section with some links to some cool, free vsts, and both the ones markoboko mentions are essential. Musicradar online also do a regular updated 'best free plug-ins' section which is bang up to date (newest free synth on there is TAL-noisemaker which is one of the best new free synths)

Hey All,
I have put together a list of about 200 of the best and most lauded VST's from the interwebz. I'm compiling a resource library for the site at the moment and would love if everyone could post up more of their favorite VST's and VSTi's. Please use this thread to document your favourite plug-ins!

It would make my job a lot easier if you could include a brief description of what the plug-in does (like a mini review). These will then be added to the soon to be released library.

Any and all help would be much appreciated with this. I'm not looking for links to sites with hundreds of VST's just a list of the very best free VST's out there as used by our members. As it is I have to research each and every one which is painstaking!

Thanks in advance!

A

Simple piano: 4front piano. No controls, if you want to enhance it, add effects.

http://free-loops.com/vst-plugin-1.html

There's loads more goodies on that site too

4front bass - good, solid, goes down as if a 5-string bass. Again, no controls or fx

KVR: 4Front Technologies 4Front Bass Module - Virtual Instrument

KVR have got loads there too

Any of the MDA stuff is good

mda-vst.com

I've used quite a few.

The auto panner, stereo widener and sub-bass enhancer are good and do
what they say on the tin. The Leslie is great.

There's a start, anyway
